It is friendly and spacious with good seating set ups. I been several times in a group of ten or more people, and the food has always been excellent. The service is bordering on slow, but I believe this is due to the number of people in the group. The prices are very reasonable, and gives excellent value for money. There is a large outdoor area with a play area for the children. There is also outdoor seating. The staff are friendly and helpful. I think the only downside is the ordering system, you have to order at the bar, and this is difficult when in a large party.

I've visited many other Wetherspoons bars before and EG's isn't great…read more At busy times you will find yourself waiting at the bar for a long time (Or there is nowhere to sit, so you'll have to be at the remaining table, the one next to the young mother swearing on her phone with the three screaming kids). Other times, you may find a nice quiet corner with pleasant ambiance. They do seem to get through staff, and a lot of times they are rushed off their feet. On two separate occasions they were out of something. One time they were out of napkins, and we were given a piece of the blue towel. Another time they were out of most condiments. My mother ran to the shop down the road to buy us some vinegar. They now offer condiments brought to the table when you order, which i think is much better and easy to monitor when things are getting low. They just need more of a wipe before being brought out. One time we visited my other half was told they were out of gammon. If that wasn't bad enough, half a hour later a table across from us received gammon! We found ourselves repeatedly going back to wetherspoons even though we weren't fully satisfied, however recently the food has gotten much worse. I am vegetarian, but I also have a lot of food intolerances. I can't be anywhere near onion. My fiance got his food (He normally complains about it being "burnt to a crisp", why can't my chips be like that?), and my chips arrived at the table. There was a strong onion smell like the greasy horrible chips you get from a curry house. Upon enquiring, they said to my partner "They were cooked in the onion fryer this time. They are normally cooked in the meat fryer". I was gobsmacked. Is that even allowed, when it states suitable for vegetarians on the menu? I simply left them and while my other half ate alone I awkwardly kept myself busy on my phone. We gave wetherspoons another try, but the chips were oniony yet again. My fiances ice cream had melted by the time we spoke to someone, and he politely told them about it and they offered to make more. 15 mins later with the staff looking like they were avoiding any route near our table and no sign of new ones, we decided to leave. So if we WERE to go back, we would have to ask for the following just to cater to our fussy issues: "A medium rare gammon, A pint of diet pepsi with no fruit and just a couple of ice cubes. Also Chips please, extra extra EXTRA crispy (This gets them done to a normal standard, I wouldn't call them crispy at all. Though on occasion they are done VERY nicely, and we are under the impression it's one particular cook that really knows what we're asking for) and keep them away from anything onion and meat". Now I work in retail personally, and am expected to remember customers faces to cater to their specific needs. We have been there on average every week for the past year (Sometimes two to three times), and occasionally during the two years before I moved here yet we are still not remembered. We have visited the cafe Rock Ola in Brighton four times (Amaaaaazing place!) and they remember us, call us the 'lovebirds', and the lady knows EXACTLY how we like what we order. We now try to make the effort to visit Suley's cafe on Railway approach instead. And with the Broadway re-opening with diner food, they have more competition.
