On our Plate 9.8.13
Very Pricey for what you are served up with.
Party of four 1* based on the whole experience. For the food, staff et al. If we could we would rate it a Zero, we all gladly would.
3 rump steaks rare chips salad, 1 chicken Fajita. Wine Californian 1 chardonnay 1 Rose, Bill over £110.
The steaks were barely passable, but far from a good cut of meat for £14 very fatty and gristly. The chips were hard and inedible, the salad was not dressed and stalks from the beets were left on the plate. There was no seasoning on anything whatsoever. It was so bland a child could eat it and not complain. The chicken Fajita had dry micro waved rice, again something you do not expect, when paying £15 for a meal. The Q/A shown by the Head Chef if they exist was laughable. The kitchen staff wopuld appear to be severly lacking in any culinary skills, to the point where we suspect they do not possess a Head Chef of any calibre, maybe it is a line cook. The attention to detail and care highlit that there is little to no regard for the food being served to customers. It takes a lot of hard work to mess up rice and rare steaks but trust us all, the Peacock wins hands down in destroying food.
In summing up the Peacock Hotel @ oakerthorpe in Derbyshire is Pretentious with delusions of grandeur. A great let down to an otherwise perfect day. The broken White mini Grand piano sitting out of place, is the Tell that this establishment is trying to project an atmosphere its food can not back up. read more
