We had a beautiful afternoon at The Peacock Garden restaurant. We were so happy we came here! It is conveniently located in the downtown area. The vibe is relaxing and comfortable. There are tons of different options for seating - we picked a table in the back with an umbrella for shade near a water feature. The many beautiful peacocks roam around and they are very tame. They come right up to your table looking for food. They are not scary. Service was attentive (English and Spanish). I had drinks only. One of my friends had the chicken enchiladas which she said were good and the other had Hawaiian shrimp which looked and smelled amazing! They also have desserts and alcohol. read more

Stopped here for lunch while visiting Ajijic. It's a charming place with lush landscaping and peacocks walking around the premises. The service was fine, but the food was forgettable. My chicken was dry and a bit tasteless. The other 2 members on my party also found their food to be lacking flavor. I was expecting this place to be better, but the best thing about it was the ambiance. Someone at our table made the mistake of giving a peacock a nibble of what was left on her plate, and we suddenly had a small swarm of peacocks that wouldn't leave us alone. This Restaurant is a hidden gem!!! Yes they have Peacocks that roam the garden ! The menu is in both Spanish and English. They have a wide variety of American dishes, fish dishes, Mexican dishes . I had the chili Rellnos very good. My husband had fish Zarandeado. Which he said the best he has ever had! The ambiance is 10/10. Gorgeous gardens, peacocks, what more could you want? The food and drinks are good, but not phenomenal. House chips and salsa were wonderful. Shrimp tacos were just shrimp and tortillas, though the shrimp were cooked perfectly. Steamed fish in banana leaf and club sandwich were both pretty good. Michelada was great, mojito and capirinha both tasted good but not right, if that makes sense. On the whole, I would come back if the weather was nice for a drink and a bite, but probably not a full meal. read more

Great ambiance and food. The peacocks are so beautiful and the garden so tranquil. Every time I come to Ajijic I always like to stop at the peacock garden. Their tamarindo margarita is also my favorite drink there. read more

This place was awesome! You get to pick where you want to sit and it has trees and things between tables. Privacy can be had. There was a huge mango tree and all types of foliage. The setting was nice. All covered too with umbrellas or trees. The sound the of beautiful peacock is close something else. Ccaaaaa kkkaaaaa!! The waiters and waitresses were all fantastic. They brought food out on trays covered with clothes. The pico de gallo was a winner. It was in lime juice with a few jalapeños. It had a nice kick. Chips were perfect. I ate a whole bowl by myself. I ordered the bass fillet " to your own taste." I requested garlic, real butter(she said thats all we use), and wine. They added pine nuts. It was perfect I must say. The veggies were cooked to perfection but the bottom of the broccoli was white and the top of the cauliflower had a little brown on it. Call me picky but I don't eat old veggies. This place is a true hidden gem. You'd never know it was there - an oasis waiting for you to step in off the main road. The garden is so peaceful and is beautiful. The food was exceptional - the best shrimp tacos myself and the other two in my party had ever eaten. So much so that we went back the next day and re-ordered the same thing as the day before. The servers are all very friendly too. Oh, and order a margarita, they're also great! read more

Our friends told us the food was not worth the slow service that is always involved, but for beers mid day it was absolutely what one would call a unique experience and worth coming to. The peacocks are splendid, and very unafraid of you, so they will come straight to the tables. We definitely recommend, just not for the food. read more

(Review from 3/2015) We came to the Peacock Garden on the recommendation of our friend's dad. The ambience was wonderful--it felt like we are having an outdoor picnic under the trees among the sculptures. I ordered the chile relleno, which was delicious. As at most restaurants, it was a single pepper, but it was quite filling. The sauce on it was a perfect complement to the chile and the fillings. I also tried some of AT's enchiladas verdes con pollo, which were unfortunately a bit dry. We got the horchata and jamaica for our drinks and enjoyed them too. The food was good, but I think the selling point was the atmosphere. It was a gorgeous day out, and we really enjoyed being able to sit outside while having a satisfying lunch. read more

I haven't had this entertaining a lunch since Las Mananitas in Cuernavaca. It's a wonderful garden setting with four peacocks and several watchful cats. To start, we split a Caesar salad with the best freshly grilled chicken we've had in a long time. Next the grilled trout (topped with ajillo sauce) from nearby lake Chapala and cheese stuffed Chile Relleno (my litmus test of a Mexican restaurant--this one had a flavorful, firmly-textured Poblano Chile with light crispy batter) were excellent. We were very bad guests and fed the birds off the table, but it made for great Tik Tok videos. Try the excellent boutique chocolate shop across the street for desert. read more

So relaxed, went for lunch and had a private area all to ourselves. Peacocks visited us all through lunch, butterflies fluttered throughout the plants. I counted at least 8 different types of fruit trees, really like a private garden. The food was good, as was the staff. Amazing grounds at The Peacock Garden, however the food was just mediocre. Ordered the aguachiles as an appetizer, which is a shrimp ceviche, no bueno. The shrimp were under prepared (half raw) and soft. Lasagna was different but edible. Once was enough, won't be back. Loved the birds though. read more

This is the second or third time I've eaten at this restaurant. The location is lovely, set directly in central Ajijic in a shady and beautiful area. I was disappointed in my Caprese, which was touted as being made with mozzarella cheese but instead was some kind of sliced Mexican cheese. It was a generous portion, but nothing like I was hoping for. The guacamole was firm and presented like it was molded in a very small bucket. It was not that tasty. My friend had a stuffed potato with shrimp and she enjoyed that. The best part of this restaurant, in my opinion, are the birds: chickens, roosters, a parrot, and a few male and female peacocks. The Peacock Garden is at a beautiful venue, but some of the food could use a bit of improvement and evaluation. read more

This is a very beautiful garden restaurant. Highly recommend for lunch, unfortunately I had dinner. Too many flying insects. And lighting that was not only unappealing but very unflattering. The food was good but I was under the understanding that they served Mexican cuisine. It's not. Steak, fish , pasta. I had a salad that was disappointing and my entree was an excellent fried shrimp dish. It was very good and quite large. The grounds are perfectly manicured. Peacocks and chickens roam free. It's kind of cool. Next time I'll go for lunch. read more

Great little restaurant with good service and incredibly cheap prices. We shared the shrimp tacos which 4 stuffed with 2 large batter fried shrimp in a soft corn tortilla with greens and avocado. I had a great Margarita and my husband a shot of a reposado tequila along withe traditional chips and 2 kinds of salsa for $20. The garden is pretty with a large waterfall and there are chickens, roosters and peacocks walking around. Very cute in a cute little town. read more

There are many beautiful restaurants in Ajijic, but this place is not only gorgeous the food was terrific! The molcajete with mixed proteins was amazing!!! we shared and still enough for two more servings. the peacocks were sleeping so i think if you want to see them go when it's daylight! service was very attentive as well. read more

Mediocre, and entitled. We went in on a hot afternoon for a couple of drinks and asked for guacamole to go with the chips. That's it. No meal. The tamarindo margarita was very good, but the piña colada was flat, bland, and watered down. The guacamole was likewise bland. The service was slow. When the change came, there was a 50-peso note and several coins. We left a tip on the low end of the 10%-15% recommended range. As we were walking out, one of the servers chased us down to find out why we had not tipped his friend because he had not seen the coins left behind. They were likely expecting the 50-peso note (which would've been way over 20% and not deserved). There are too many other great restaurant options in Ajijic (Telares, Tango, etc.) that we don't deal with presumptuous servers in a restaurant with mediocre food. We won't return. read more

Great outdoor seating area, with excellent grilled steaks with traditional fresh guacamole, salsa and hot tortilla. We went there with friends on Sunday and enjoyed conversation without loud music nor neighbors. Peacocks were walking around as the name of the restaurant, making the experience unique. read more

We love this place! It's the food we're talking about. My grilled fish was absolutely perfect. Tim's beef kebab was great. Veggies were perfectly cooked and the service was excellent. We had two full dinners with one beer for 322 pesos. Quite a deal considering it is in an extensive garden with a peacock walking around! read more

The food is very good and the surroundings are beautiful with peacocks roaming around. This is a great place to take out of town guests. They do have a couple of Mexican items on the menu, they have pastas and seafood dishes. We had chili rellenos and chicken enchiladas that were very good. This was our second time there. read more

Beautiful birds will come up to table- fun for my children now begging for a peacock. Pretty setting. (Watch out for the poo :) the last few times I've been it's been the same-- pretty setting, decent food, inattentive and sloooow service. Today they even charged me for the chips to go with my guacamole I ordered as an appetizer. The brought out chips and salsa originally (a small amount for all 7 of us) and they were gone by the time they brought my guacamole appetizer with our meal 45 minutes later. So I asked for more not thinking I would be charged for them. I did hear a waiter scoff that we were asking for more chips. It seemed perfectly reasonable to me and I'm sorry to say that this restaurant that I always really wanted to love just lost my business with this final chintzy move. read more
