Wonderful fairways - really begging for your finest tee shot.
    Eric S.

I recently visited the 3rd ring of Hell; it's named The Pearl. Promised a great round of golf at one of Calabash's finest, we rolled into the Pearl and were hopeful, seeing the vista's and marshlands - you know, what you see on their website and pictures. Once you cash in and buy your bag of range balls to warm up, you lug your bag to the range as carts aren't allowed. I thought, excellent, they care for the course properly...then, you get the starter instructions regarding where your starting and sent off - into the first ring of hell...you see, those pretty holes, those are few and far between - maybe 2 per 9 holes, the rest, zig zag an unkept jungle of fertile mosquito breeding grounds the likes not seen since life climbed from the proverbial primordial ooze. I kid you not - swarm upon swarm of mosquitoes descend upon you to the point you cannot focus due to the buzzing in your ears...and the bites - I'm headed to a Walgreens for an at home malaria test kit. But for the love of the game - we press on, into the second ring - aka 3 to 4 groups of golfers on each hole. Rest easy my friends, the 5.5 hour round is alive and well at the Pearl. A part of me wondered, did they stack golfers to feed the mosquito swarm? It seemed plausible, perhaps the loss of blood due to the bites made me delusional, who's to know. And now, you've survived the swarms, and continue... in spite of slow play, we descend into the 3rd ring, ruled by callous and socially challenged attendants, the course itself. A design that appears to be lacking continuity and planning, it's fallen into disrepair, almost mocking you for still being there. Pin placements in nonsensical locations and fairways that appear more planned for potato farming than a golf ball - calling it a dog track would be insulting to gray hounds everywhere. Awful awful place and the worst experience on a golf course I've ever had in Myrtle Beach. When Dante Alighieri uttered "In the middle of the journey of our life I found myself within a dark woods where the straight way was lost." - one might think he was referring to The Pearl Beware my friends.... Golf Hell is real.

Beautiful course with gorgeous views. The problem is they over water everything to the point the ground is saturated.

Beautiful course, but very rude golf pro. Not sure I would play there again if I have to deal with him.

One of the main reasons we booked this place was for the pool, and these unreasonable hours completely ruined that experience. It feels like the owners care more about convenience than their guests. If you're expecting to actually enjoy the amenities you're paying for, don't waste your money here.

The fairways were not much better with whole areas of crabgrass growing in spots. The "Crow" pole in which your cart is not allowed past was sometimes almost 100 yards from the greens which means you had to walk back from the greens to shoot which slowed the pace of play. There was a starter on each of the sides, but there were no roving rangers to help control the pace of play. We were standing with "hands on hips" on almost every hole because they crammed too many tee times too close together and had twosomes playing behind numerous foursomes. We had two "club members" pushing us from behind while hitting into us even though we were being held up by players in front of us. There is no reason they should be charging as much as they do. Meadow Lands, Diamondback and Eastport are in much better shape and a better deal for the money.

They've put so much time and money and hard work into this facility and golf courses especially BYRD. The Byrd course is in spectacular condition and only going to get better. To make things even better ,they have a fantastic beverage card attendant by the name of Betsy. You're not gonna find anyone better in the business ,than this young lady. We saw her frequently on the golf course and she was friendly and attentive. She even took time to do a picture with us to tease a friend lol. After our round, we stopped inside to the main bar area in the sports bar section. We met with our bartender Logan, who was extremely friendly and extremely knowledgeable about golf in the area ,as well as Bourbon's and the like . To say that this place is now a must hit venue would be an understatement. This will now be the legends of the north. The facilities for stay and play packages are going to be outstanding. And the restaurants and bars are beyond top-notch. If you're looking for somewhere to stay on a golf package look no further.

Really like this course, me & Ron played in early May & the weather was great!…read more The Staff is outstanding & the check-in was a breeze. Greens were slick & fast. Tee boxes were in excellent condition & the fairways wide open & forgiving for the most part. It runs along the Intercoastal Waterway near Cherry Grove so you get some nice views. I started on the tenth hole and the rough was cut so low in front of the green that if you come up short your ball rolls into the water. On number 13 if you hit the right side of the fairway the ball rolls into the marsh... and on the green their is no rough to stop the ball from rolling into the bunker... on 18 the pin was 3 yards from the right side of the green which is a retaining wall that separates the green from the marsh. I played on July 25th and was paired with a very nice father and son from Ohio. The son just graduated HS and wasn't a very good golfer , neither was the father. They quit after 9 holes , they stated they had never played a course like this and they are used to wide open, flat courses in Ohio. Tidewater was way more then they could handle and I estimate they lost a combined 40 balls in nine holes. I dunked a few on the back nine but got it figured out on the front nine. Being a northerner the Bermuda grass always takes me a few holes to get accustomed. The houses are close on sone holes , the Ohio boys tagged a few! I definitely recommend Tidewater if you are a 12 or less handicap, if your higher bring a lot of balls!
