My doctor called me fat after my parent left the room. Do not let your kids see Dr. Knowles,…read moreespecially teen girls, if body image is an issue for them/ the family. I recently went to her for my yearly physical, she has been my primary doctor for years and I have had no issues until this year. Once my parent had left the room she kept asking me why I gained weight with the points on the chart being her only data, no labs or anything to indicate an actual medical issue caused by or influencing weight. She told me that at my age I should not be gaining weight, only losing or staying the same. She also likened my mental health medication to a weight loss drug and claimed that by now "they should be working to help me lose appetite and thus weight" even though it is a non-desired side effect that has nothing to do with why I take it. She also insisted that I should see an endocrinologist to help lose weight as well as a nutritionist to get me in a diet without any confirmation that the weight gain is a detriment to my health. I repeatedly told her that I saw no issue with my weight and she kept pushing as if it was a requirement for me to have the same skinny bodies as the rest of my family. This experience was absolutely unacceptable, for a pediatrician to have such disregard for growing people's self image and to insult them and their body repeatedly when they are alone in the room with the patient is despicable. Later that day when confronted with choice of meal I actually started crying and nearly had a panic attack because of what she said to me. This is the kind of behavior that gives people eating disorders that can kill them. After speaking with my therapist and psychiatrist about the situation and how much it affected me they informed me they knew of Dr. Knowles and that my bad experience was not the first they heard. Truly shame on you.

BUT BUT BUT, Dr. Minifra is on an extended maternity leave, and left her patients care to her assistant, Denise Hernandez A.P.R.N. On December 18th, I made a video appointment with Denise, during this call everything went well; as usual. I was told by Denise as we ended the call, to follow up in 2 weeks. TWO WEEKS LATER...... I go to MyChart to schedule a follow-up with Denise, and I can't schedule an appointment, there are NO PROVIDERS LISTED!! Also, there was no way to send a message!! I call the office next, and I'm transferred to someone who tells me "You've been discharged from this practice!! SHOCKED!! ME?? WHY?? All that was explained to me was that "They are short staffed". Next, I was told that they would provide 1 month of medication while I find another provider. Now, for most people this might be ok, but for me, I'm on Controled Substance meds, and finding another provider is More than Difficult, and I explained them of this; THEY DID NOT CARE!! Being a patient with 3 chronic conditions in need of continuous medications, this type of behavior should be ILLEGAL!! Doctors take an oath, to "DO NO HARM", these Doctors Harmed Me Terribly!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRACTICE AT ALL COSTS!!

At 630 this morning, I realized I had forgotten to pack my thyroid medicine to take with me on vacation to Boston. I called and left a message requesting a prescription be called in for 5 tablets. I gave all of my personal info, and provided the location and phone number of the local CVS, which was in Salem, where we'd be spending the day, as well as my own phone number. I did not receive any call back confirming that the message was received, etc. So I called again, at about 9:35. I was told the prescription had been "called in". Ok, great. We did some sightseeing at I went to the CVS at 11:30 assuming the prescription would be ready or nearly ready. I was told it was never received. Called the Dr office again. I was told that the Dr on duty never looked at it because he was busy with patients. Ok, but I'm a patient also, and I had iniated this request in the early morning, so could they please ask him to do it between patients she said she would ask him to do that. I returned at 1:30... STILL NOTHING. I called the Dr office and was told the same story. We went to lunch. I called the pharmacy at 330. THE PRESCRIPTION WAS A) NOT CALLED IN TO THAT LOCATION, BUT TO ANOTHER ONE IN SALEM; B) THE DR PRESCRIBED *A*FULL*30 DAY* SUPPLY* which I did not ask for, and the prescription coverage denied it because I'm not due for a FULL refill until October. NO KIDDING. BUT I ONLY ASKED FOR F I V E TABLETS. I called the Dr office A G A I N, told them what they did which was WRONG, and they proceeded to pit me.in hold then hand me off to someone who expected me to start from the beginning to explain it to her. NO THANKS. I called the CVS back, worked with the pharmacy to only fill it for 5 tablets, for which I had to pay out of pocket since the INEPT DR OFFICE called in the WRONG QUANTITY so the pharmacy could not run it through my prescription coverage for less than 30 day supply. I. AM. LIVID. I've NEVER dealt with such ineptitude in my life.

Of the group, Dr. Teresa Manocchio (pronounced like Pinocchio) is my all-time favorite. She has a warm bedside manner and an honest, down-to-earth personality. She's a natural. The entire staff including nurses and receptionists (who can validate parking) are great with children and their parents. In the waiting area, there's a spot for parking strollers and Nemo and Dory impersonators in a fish tank that separates healthy and sick patients. While receptionists can book appointments, online scheduling's available on a "patient portal" for $69/year for one child (and $30/year for each additional child). Visit notes, recommendations, and vaccine information are shared on the portal but more importantly, future appointments are easier to schedule with any doctor you wish. For regular check-ups, bringing a blanket helps keep babies warm when they need to be stripped to their diaper. One time I forgot and had to use my hoodie. Wait times typically range from 5 to 15 minutes. The staff's pretty mindful of keeping healthy kids away from exam rooms previously occupied by a sick child. The doctors use current best practices and fully answer any questions. They also perform ear piercings for $100 which includes a starter pair of earrings from a selection of 5 choices. I suggest bringing a book or toy as a distractor for immediately after the piercing. For semi-emergencies, you can call for a same-day appointment with the doctor on duty. I love this group so much that I recommended them to my brother's family. It's a matter of trust.

I genuinely thought I would finely get the help I need. Boy was I sure wrong. From the moment I entered it felt like an internment camp. Toilets and sinks made of steel. A shower which blasts you like the fire hose you would experience in the Newark Riots. In fact, I think I would have been safer downtown Newark come to think of it. I was treated like a prisoner. I was mocked by the entire staff because they did not obviously know how to treat DPDR which is what I had and not just depression/anxiety. I have never seen such an uncoordinated place in my life. What genius decided that all mental patients regardless of their diagnosis including homicidal deranged people clearly on drugs should all be put together??!! I had to spend my 8 horrible days/nights there in solitary confinement from the outside world suffering continuous ridicule from both patients and staff. I am legally disabled and was mocked for how I walk, I was recorded and laughed at behind one way mirrors while attempting to sleep with an individual who called himself the "Pisser" whom peed around my bed in the middle of the night and not one worker came to remove him or clean up his mess. They also held a viewing party because I could hear them behind our room laughing and talking about me and this other creature next to me who snored on top of peeing so loud, I think a jet engine would be softer. Many people I see here talked about their disgusting rabbit food they would feed me since I'm on a renal diet. The workers were amongst the rudest, soulless, immoral individuals I have ever had the misfortune to meet. There was no structure at all. You are expected to read the wall or pamphlet for times and expect to visit the various groups. My DPDR caused me balance issues and memory issues so they took advantage of my mannerisms and gestures to mock me by staging fake repair men to pretend to repeatedly fix the air on a ladder when you could clearly see they were solely watching me as no work was actually happening. When I asked questions, they would deliberately send me to the other end so I would have to walk and often no one was there. When I was sent to dialysis about 3 times, they would tip off the techs and nurses and dietitian and they went out of their way to stage a patient next to me pretending to call home and he would keep repeating words or topics I discussed in their so-called therapy. They had a dietitian sit in the bay next to me and she pretended to review what to eat on renal diet but there was no one there she kept saying things like, "So you can't eat yams, they have potassium, so um you know like bananas are bad too, so um ya like don't eat potatoes either." Know these words alone is not how a professional would talk so I know they were meant to mock me because at DPDR onset your thoughts are not as fluent. They sat me in a special wooden chair so I would suffer there too. The nurse deliberately went as slow as possible to the point of supreme exaggeration to insight mockery of me. When my mother and brother came, they would lie and often say I was not available or that everything was fine. I do hope there is a special place in hell for these liars. If I had one wish is that they get audited and raided by the FBI and fed government to seize their computers and all surveillance. Then the truth about what really went on with me and probably countless other poor souls trying to get help but instead got tortured. I spoke to AJ Mertz about this and the patient advocates. My family and I have been in this hospital over the years for multiple surgeries, ICU, even my father passed here. Management needs to clean house. There are always a few rotten curds in every brick of cheese. Communications is very lacking as I saw during a major surgery stay and here too in Baby Alcatraz Ward. Manipulation is not therapy!
