The coolest state capitol I have visited. The area is kind of rough so be aware of your surroundings but the inside is well maintained and secure.

The Capital proper is both stately and well-maintained. That said, it's located in a very run-down part of town which has a decidedly dangerous feel to it. Tip: There's no free parking here, and the parking you pay for is difficult to locate There are quite a number of homeless people all around the Capital. While there's no question that the Capital is worth visiting, when you come here you need to remain alert!

Beautiful building. Very well maintained. We did not take any tour. Overall it's a pretty nice to visit.

So if you follow my reviews, you may know I am working on crossing off all the state capitals, since I've already been to all 50 states. This one is quite lovely and consistent with most of the others I've visited in terms of aesthetics, landscaping, and ease of a self-guided tour. The house and senate chambers were particularly lovely. When I opened the door to the senate chambers there was a session going on, but no one seemed to be bothered that I did so. There was a guided tour going on while I was there, so I camped on and listed for a few moments, but I had to be elsewhere later that day, so I couldn't stay for the entirety. Parking and maneuvering around downtown Harrisburg was somewhat confusing to me. I am very comfortable with urban driving, but for some reason the one-way streets really tripped me up here around the capital. They weren't really all that well-marked, and GPS didn't understand how to differentiate between one-way and two-way either. Other than that, cool spot.

You can easily spend a few hours walking around this 45 acre property. Every side has a unique perspective and you can easily get caught up in just starring at the design and architecture. Visiting towards dusk is probably the best time to experience the sunset and fountain combining together to make a fantastic show of color. All the plants and flowers on the grounds are native to Pennsylvania. Fantastic picture taking from all angles too. Highly recommend a visit!!

This is about the most fantastic building I've ever seen. From start to finish the architecture is amazing. We saw the Rotunda, Senate Chamber, House Chamber, and Supreme Court room. The tour guide explained every painting (there were hundreds) and what they meant. The gold and rare marble are among the things that make the building priceless. The tour is free.

Lots of things to photograph. The buildings are beautiful. The architecture is very nice. Next time we have to take the tour. We walked the grounds and took in all of the sights. It's a pretty nice place to visit. We will be back when we have more time.

Living in Central PA most of my life, the Pennsylvania Farm Show is not new to me. Annual…read moreattendance is basically a personality trait around here. But this year? This year I beat the system. I cracked the Farm Show code on timing, eating, and crowd avoidance--and when that happens, it deserves a Yelp review. After a spectacularly unsuccessful attempt to attend on a rainy Saturday (hard no), we regrouped and tried again on Monday evening, right after work. The strategy: arrive before the after-school-pickup-then-dinner crowd descended. At 5:00pm on the dot, we exited the highway onto Cameron Street. The electronic signs were screaming "TURN LEFT FOR FARM SHOW PARKING," yet there was no traffic turning into the main lot. Reader, I tempted fate. Moments later--$15 poorer but spiritually richer--we were parked in the main lot, just steps from the back entrance. No shuttle bus. No herding. No screaming children pressed against my will. I was stunned. The Farm Show gods had smiled upon us. Riding the high of our parking miracle, we hustled inside with a very clear and disciplined plan: Go directly to food. Do not browse. Do not touch. Do not get distracted. If you need to pee, you wait until after we eat. We power-walked straight to the food court and were immediately suspicious...because it was EMPTY. No lines. No chaos. Tables everywhere. It felt like we had broken into the Farm Show after hours. We split up and conquered, grabbing everything our fried-food-loving hearts desired. The haul: fried mushrooms, stuffed mushrooms, a strawberry milkshake, potato donuts, a pit beef sandwich, an apple dumpling with vanilla ice cream, and maple candy (for balance, obviously). The longest wait time? Two minutes. And that was for pit beef--which felt totally reasonable and honestly luxurious by Farm Show standards. With full bellies and zero regrets, we strolled through vendors and animal exhibits in a calm, almost serene state--something I didn't think was possible at the Farm Show. This experience easily ranks above every other visit I can remember. Perfect timing. Perfect strategy. Perfect amount of fried food. If you've ever left the Farm Show sweaty, overstimulated, and questioning your life choices, just know: it is possible to win. Monday at 5pm. You're welcome.

You have to do it at least one time in your life. I've lived in Harrisburg 25 years, been to 7 or 8…read moreduring that span. If you have kids, they'll love it and you can kill an entire day. It will also kill you and your wallet a bit, too. Traffic, parking, crowds, pricy food, it's all there to love and hate. So much to see, do, and explore within the entire complex.
