While at the festival, they had a bounce house for the kiddos- it was a big hit, only downfall was the slide area the kids were literally landing on hard asphalt on their behinds, when I brought it up to the young man he tried his hardest to resolve the problem, they brought little quilts, once again sadly it didn't help the problem. I watched three other kids land hard on their behinds, and the last one a little boy landed and knocked the wind out of himself. After that my friend and I went up to whom I'd assume was the event runner (young lady in blue) and she seemed worried and said she'd try to find something else, there was another gal next to her, when the young gentleman asked if he should close down the house (which he should have kids were getting hurt) she replied "no keep it up, we did all we could" and walked away. I'm appalled that she did not care whatsoever that children were getting hurt. Taking the house down would have not interrupted the event whatsoever but she thought jeopardizing children's well being was fine. Absolutely unprofessional.

We arrived after 5pm when everything on Main Street closes aside from a few restaurants.... but this spot was open for a quick browse! They feature a range of small booths with interesting handmade goodies, most of which I believe I've seen at the Saturday Farmer's Market. The young lady didn't make room for me to look, but hey, we're still kinda in the midst of COVID, so I made my way to an opposite wall where I looked at a shirt. It didn't have a price so I asked a second young lady, "How much?". She acted as though I was bothering her when she came over, looked at it, told me the price (without making any eye contact), and then went back behind the counter. That's when I noticed the first young lady, that was previously at the earrings, went behind the counter. The bell went off in my head, "oh she works here." It was at that moment, I said, "Let's go!" I realized they were both being rude and possibly didn't want "me" in the store. I was going to keep it to myself, but my friend said, "Wow she was rude." They must be raking in the bucks, so I'll spend my money somewhere else...and so will all my friends.

The new location is nestled next to Running, Etc and across the street from Blair Middle School. It boasts ample street parking with a convenient side parking lot for customers as well. A beautiful store-front window is always displayed to perfection bringing window shopping to life during your stroll down Colley Avenue. A charming sidewalk chalkboard sign greets you before you even enter the store. The handiwork on the sign is done by a local artist which speaks to the nature of Texture. As you enter the shop, you will find it proudly supports local artists of Coastal Virginia from Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, and more. I'm always impressed by the jewelry, hand designed greeting cards, pottery, and accessories that the owner finds for the store. She or any other "Texurette" will happily tell you about the origins of any item. The ladies who work in the shop (Texurettes, as they are fondly called) are always friendly and helpful if you are looking for something particular. They offer complimentary gift wrapping in adorable gift bags tied with ribbon. Every time I give a gift in a Texture bag the recipients eyes light up! You will find a price range for every wallet. I have bought $2 hand soaps, hilarious dishes towels for $10 as well as beautiful jewelry in the higher price range. Texture is one of those local shops who truly supports local as well. I love both that they give back to the community and support local artists. It is definitely the ideal place to find a gift for any occasion. They have a baby boutique with one of a kind baby gifts, vintage inspired puzzles, funny gifts such as socks and dish towels, coastal decor, jewelry, handbags, pottery, candles and more. I'm not sure how the owner did it, but the move to their new location only brought more of that local charm with them to Colley Avenue. I have been an avid OUAC shopper. I have been to multiple locations in multiple states and always…read moreleft with some great clothes for my kiddos, felt good about the price paid, and would take my own children's clothes there for a small payment or donation (see end for more info about this part). This location, however, is very different from the ones I have been to. I have been to this location more than 5 times. 1. Most of their clothes are very faded, pilled, stained, or stretched out. 2. In their very limited collection I have found very little diversity. 3. There is absolutely no short sleeve pajamas, like ever, and if you are looking for "Boys", good luck 4. When you bring in clothes, they are very "selective" with what they purchase, although it does not show in their inventory. 5. What upset me the most was when they denied all of my clothes (none dirty, weathered, or damaged), they told me to pick them up or they would be "disposed of"... As stated, I have sold items at other locations and when some of my items were denied, OUAC employees would DONATE THEM, not DISPOSE of them. This company is supposed to be about sustainability and recycling children's clothes, but this location would take perfectly fine clothes and throw them in the trash, instead of donating them to CHKD or other kids in need. There is a deep separation in the values of this OUAC and others I have been to. Their website and mission statement preach "sustainability" , but actions show that they have no problem disposing of clothes in unsustainable ways. When I was notified that my giant bag of kids clothes would be thrown away, I quickly picked them up and brought them to CHKD. I believe this OUAC needs a reminder of the purpose of their stores. All other locations I have seen employed mothers, large piles and bags of clothes to be donated, fair prices on good, quality clothes, and a sense of community, but here all of my expectations are not met.

If there is one time of year that your refund policy should be extened, this is that time. Overall it was a horrible expierence and I could not believe how argumentative the owner was. I will never shop in this store again and would advise against buying "gifts" there.

She never once said it was a store credit. How do you put down a cash deposit but only get a store credit for an item you never took out the store?
