Had to try the Thunder Bay Persian, and hollands was closed so we came here. Overall I'd say the Persian was okay, but nothing mind blowing. I've had better baked goods but that's likely not due to the Persian Man at all. Prices were very reasonable and the other bakery items like cannolis etc were solid. Service was fast. Nothing in the case is labeled so if you're a tourist like us and not recognizing their unique offerings you're left to simply point and say I'll take 3 pink things, 1 green thing and whatever that brown thing is. Our favourite has to be the Blueberry Persian, then their classic Raspeberry Persian, & least of all was their chocolate which wasn't anything special (and a tad too sweet). TIP: Buying Persians to bring home - call first to set aside a dozen bag of UN-ICED Persians. You'll get a separate tub of icing (good to place into your check-in luggage if you're flying). Now The Persian Man serves alot more than just Persians - there was a bakery in the store and they also served hot food. I saw people grabbing lunch there when I went there to pick up the Persians. However, what is really famous here is the Persians, so if here you must try them! I ended up getting the raspberry and the blueberry persian and they were both delicious! These were somewhat like cinnamon roll and donut combos, and each bite was really yummy. The icing added the perfect amount of sweetness, but loved the soft fluffy donut underneath. These go great with a coffee or tea - so make sure to do that when having it for an extra hearty meal! read more

The two times I've been in or passing through Thunder Bay, I've had to stop in here to grab some Persians. These local pastries are a must try when in Thunder Bay. I'd describe these as a cross between a donut and cinnamon bun, with a berry icing. I grew up in Thunder Bay and I actually remember "Persian Day" at school, every Thursday when kids would line up and get a delicious Persian as a morning treat. As it doesn't appear that there will be thousands of reviews for "The Persian Man" anytime soon, please consider this a response to Eric R. I am a doughnut connoisseur. I despise Safeway doughnuts. The flavours in Safeway doughnuts taste artificial, and the textures range from springless to stale. I always feel as if they are a waste of calories. Persians are not wastes of calories. The flavours may be subtle, but they are still present. The fresh strawberry? frosting is light and fluffy, and the cinnamon provides a nice contrast. The texture is that of your traditional small bakery doughnut. It doesn't melt in your mouth the way a Krispy Kreme does, but a Persian isn't a Krispy Kreme - it's a Thunder Bay institution. I found them tasty enough to bring a half dozen back to Edmonton for my wife to try. She loves a good bakery-style doughnut, and the raspberry cinnamon flavour combo is unique enough. They became somewhat stale over about a 24 hour period. I will heed Duck D.'s advice and reheat the leftover Persians (currently in my freezer) in the oven. I also enjoyed my hot beef sandwich that I ate for lunch. If it's convenient and you happen to be in Thunder Bay, I recommend trying a Persian. They don't wow the way a Krispy Kreme or the doughnuts at Jelly Modern in Calgary do, but are an enjoyable local treat. read more

Just tried these on our last visit to TBay, I was totally unfamiliar with them until my last visit but I can see why people love them It's basically a cinnamon bun with raspberry icing on it. We grabbed a whole bag of them and got the frosting on the side and they easily survived the trip back to Toronto (which we DROVE!) Even when they get a bit stale, 30 seconds in the toaster oven and they're good as new. Even used the leftover frosting after the buns were gone to dip a bit of fruit into. Are you kidding me? I feel like Thunder Bay is trapped in a time where nothing changes and they don't have access to the outside world. These are basic donuts with an almost flavorless frosting smeared on top. The donuts are not creamy or savory but rather bland and lackluster. Seriously, I could go to Safeway, buy a plain donut, get a can of cherry cake frosting, smear it on and have something soooo much better. If you want I could buy different frostings so you can have variety. Don't get me wrong, I'm no donut connoisseur, but there's a reason that Krispy Kreme has a following, because they've made something that tastes amazing and is truly different. We were travelling, from Nova Scotia to BC and we had heard about their Persian Man Doughnuts so we thought we would try them Unfortunately we just arrived after closing time. Staff is a little cold to those who aren't regulars, however those donuts make up for it. On a drive from Edmonton to Toronto I was told I MUST stop in Thunder Bay for a Persian Donut.
