Hell, I go to Doe's in Monroe every single time I am in Monroe. When I would profess my love for Doe's to my Mississippi friends they would always tell me: "you have to go to the Greenville location. It's the original". I figured they were right but also figured I would never be in Greenville since there are not many things to do there. But 2025 was the year that I finally made it here. We made a special stop on the way to Eureka Springs. It was everything I had hoped and I absolutely loved it. You must know that this is the original location and it is not fancy on the outside or the inside. Parking is mostly on the street and the neighborhood seems a wee bit sketchy. The building looks like an old house from the outside. Needless to say, the kids were skeptical and wondered why their dad drug them here. That continued when we walked in to the kitchen, walked through the other kitchen, and were seated in one of the rooms. One of the kids said: "I feel like I am dining at someone's house". Exactly. This place is famous! All skepticism was washed away when we got our food. A ribeye and fries for me and a fillet and fries for them to share. Both were perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and made this Doe's fan grin from ear to ear. It was a great meal I will remember forever. Was it cheap? Definitely not. For two entrees, a beer, and a tea, it was around $200 with a tip. Was it worth it to me? Hell yes. I freakin loved it. Is it worth a drive from New Orleans just to eat here? Probably not. Should you divert a road trip to eat here? Absolutely. By the way, service was exactly as you would expect. Super friendly and we were treated like regulars despite it being our first time. Also, there was a cop working outside so don't be scared.

I was kind of worried since it's a nice looking place surrounded by businesses that appear to be permanently closed. However, a crowd picked up closer to 8, so I can tell it's a local favorite. Our server was amazing! Didn't have to ask for refills, condiments or anything. She handled us really well and answered any questions we had. I ordered one of the daily specials, blackened redfish. Menu said it came on orzo, which I don't like so I subbed for the long grain rice. I added a side of broccolini. Food came out hot and in a reasonable amount of time. My fish, with that Cajun cream sauce, melted in my mouth! I didn't like the rice, as it was gummy but the broccolini was cooked as if a gold medal was the prize at the end of the night! My only misgiving about it was I wanted more of it!

I would suggest calling for reservations. I told them we were celebrating an 80th birthday but there was no recognition. We ordered appetizers: Fried Green Tomatoes: these came with a crawfish sauce which was excellent! Savory and creamy, a perfect compliment to the tanginess on the tomatoes. Duck Wraps: such a great combination of the duck, creamy cheese, spicy jalapeños and salty bacon. Boudin Egg Rolls: these were spicy. Not my jam at all. They were cooked well with a crispy crust and moist spicy inside stuffing. For Dinners: The ribeye: we're used to a $55 steak being a very high quality and well cooked. I just don't think the price equaled the steak. The bone in pork chop was very well seasoned and was perfectly cooked. There was a lot of fat on the chop both throughout and on the edges. The sides were very good! The zucchini and summer squash was the star of the plate. Well seasoned and cooked in a way that they had a slight crispiness. Simple yet wonderful. The baked sweet potato was wonderful, creamy and buttery. The Tuscan Chicken: this is as served on a bed of rice. The chicken was cooked well, juicy and tender. The sauce was creamy with sun dried tomatoes and spinach. The sauce needed salt. The Redfish: perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The rice was also well seasoned. Very good dish The fried catfish was well seasoned and cooked well. The tartar sauce was made in house and very good. The blackened catfish was very good. Well seasoned. 6 entrees, 5 appetizer orders and 3 coffees with the 20% tip that was automatically added to our ticket due to having 6 people in our party was $358. I felt it was a fair price for what we received. Service was good.

Just the right amount of seasoning to feel a little kick in your mouth but smooth and delectable going down. It's too good to stuff myself with meal. A dish like this is made to be enjoyed for one more day. Just imagine, once it sits overnight the seasonings will mesh together even more and...hummm some good eating. Whoever was the chef today; kudos to you for a job well done. This was worth the hard work I put in today at work along with bearing the hot temperatures today. I know there are unbelievers who won't believe that I didn't eat it all in one sitting. Here is another shot of what I'm saving for tomorrow. Okay, I did finish off the fried okra; too good to let stay. Listen up, please, come a little closer, just a little more. I'm going to whisper to select individuals even though I know you will share; lol. I went to this restaurant "BackDraft," and ordered something I "would not" order because I'm not one of those people who has an affinity for them. If they are at a family cookout and my nephew, who is the family chef, cooks them on the grill, I might eat one or two. Okay, wait for it, chargrilled oysters. I know some are "clutching their pearls," repeating "say it's not so". Yes, I'm one of those people. However, when I went into the restaurant, I wasn't really hungry but knew that after a long day I had to put something substantial in my stomach for the evening. So, I had a taste for some soup. I ordered the "Gumbo," and the chef "Shawn" (with his innocent demeanor) happened to be walking towards the front counter, and the front desk staff asked him to describe the Gumbo and how he made it. I was intrigued after hearing how he cooked it, thinking it was just going to be some type of tomato-based soup. So, I ordered a cup. Then I kept looking at the "Jacked-Up Oysters," which Shawn guaranteed that I would love. So, I ordered a half-dozen, thinking that I was wasting my money. I took it to go because again I was tired and wanted to get back to the hotel. Let me tell you, the Gumbo was absolutely tantalizing with just the right amount of spice to let you know you are tasting something special. It was nothing as I had anticipated. Also, for the person who is not a real "oyster person," I ate those oysters like there was no tomorrow; like they were the last oysters on earth or like I stole something. Okay, I would NEVER steal anything; not my thing. Life is worth living to the fullest and experiencing it. Chef Shawn, you did your thing, "sir". I can't wait to come back to try other dishes there while I'm traveling. So, walk, skip, hop, run, jog, drive, bike, take the bus, or if you are in the area, please stop by here and have your taste buds awakened. The staff is super friendly and informative about the menu, and the atmosphere is welcoming, with reasonable prices.

My rice was good and they brought a good portion to me but it got kind of cold before I could eat all of it. My waiter didn't bring us our salad and soup which came with our meal. I had to ask for it. Whether he forgot it or didn't want to bring it not - I will never know. Anyway, it was kind of expensive to eat here. Bring at least $30 per person if you come here. The restaurant was set up to handle small to large groups of people. Now the food. I can't review everything because our party was so big I didn't get feedback on all the dishes. The lobster ragoon was the best thing I had. The filling was creamy and the lobster gave a nice flavor compared to the crab that the dish is generally made with. The miso soup had a different flavor that I couldn't quite place. I was not a fan. I tried 2 sushi rolls: sweet potato and shrimp tempura. Both had a brown colored sauce on them that was similar to eel sauce which I usually like but this sauce was not good. The steak that the hubs had was overcooked and tough. The side salad was really good. The rice was savory and fresh. When we eat out in Mississippi, I don't think I would choose Yamato again. It just wasn't that good. The service is what saved the star rating.
