I contacted the Picnic Collective about an event in San Diego. Below is a copy paste of our text correspondence to read for yourself: Me: Hi! I'm just wondering what Oceanside parks (not on sand) you are allowed to host on assuming 8-10 people. PC: I apologize I am not familiar with the city of Oceanside. I think just googling the parks would be your best bet for finding a location Me: Oops sorry I mean ocean side - meaning anywhere in San Diego. Any park that's near an ocean. PC: The only one I am familiar with is South Embarcadero Park Me: Ok so I guess then my question is do you have suggested locations? Or do I research and propose that? Where are you typically hosting picnics I mean? It seems there's a lot of rules so I can't figure out what is and isn't allowed. PC: I think you have to pick a place and then call about that specific place is how it works. Me: Ok no thanks looking to pay someone to do that legwork for me. Thanks. PC: Happy to do that for you. We offer location scouting which we charge $499 for this I was surprised at the price to provide me a list of allowable locations. So I pinged another company to see if they had a list of sites. I got a reply in 5 min with a list of locations that only the county allows. It's a very short list and easily posted online by county. Picnic collective charging you $500 to send this list is a scam and also you should seriously second guess they don't know or supply this to you with your inquiry. When I brought this to PC attention, instead of acknowledging the feedback - they proceeded to engage in a combative back and forth with me. I wonder how many suckers they've gotten for this $500. They're other untrustworthy & ripping people off or unknowledgable. The pure fact they wanted to argue with me on this simple issue was also indicative of what might have happened running a large event with them in recognizing a mistake. Be very careful committing thousands of dollars to an event with them and the county kicking your event out. read more

We hired them for a corporate event and could not recommend this company less! Extremely unprofessional, the owners sent the sweet set up girl dirty supplies (dirty unusable pitchers, glasses, ice buckets), umbrellas without stakes therefore no umbrellas or lights could be used and and were so understaffed (one person) to set up a 30 person picnic which she said they usually always send 2-3. We ended up setting up the entire picnic ourselves (3 of us & their one staff member) hauling the equipment down, setting up the decor and all of the food sweating our butts off before our corporate event. There was a last minute location change an hour 20 minutes before the event, they said they would arrive between 4/4:30pm I received a call at 4:40pm the location wouldn't work due to high tide. We were understanding (even though I would think a beach picnic company would check tide level the morning of an event) nothing the company could do at this point so we moved locations. I would argue that even if she had an hour and a half to set up by herself (meaning arriving at the original location at 4:30) she would not have been able to do it in time with how much 4 of us did in an hour. Our issue was with the understaffing, dirty equipment and extremely unprofessional owners making it an overall disappointing experience . The staff member was super stressed and embarrassed by the presentation the owners sent her with and as we are scrambling to set up and our customers are starting to arrive the husband sends a threatening text message to which I replied that we would discuss after the event that I didn't have the time right then as the host to deal with it. His crazy temper and threatening words escalated things so much I handed the phone off to my boss who couldn't believe this guy was actually an owner and speaking this way. Thankfully his wife took over communication and was much more reasonable stating that we would discuss the next day. I would never work with such a poor example of a "leader" again. They decided to refunded us $575 which was about 20% of our picnic cost and due to doing the 50% of the labor ourselves (the setup and that was outlined as 65% of the overall cost + $411 service fee) + unusable drink station (no glass wear so it was useless) + no umbrellas or lights we felt it was not a justified amount. You have many options when it comes to picnic companies and I've done 3 other picnic with other companies with nothing short of 10/10 service don't waste your time on this one. read more

Since this birthday of mine was a little different, and the husband preferred to not dine out, we were trying to think of something fun to do. A friend and I were discussing it and she found The Picnic Collective on Instagram. I immediately signed up to find out more. The only bummer is, yes, it's not cheap whatsoever- and definitely for special occasions. But this friend literally gifted us money to do this. She knew it had been a really hard season of loss for us, and she wanted to really bless us. Well, she sure did. We grabbed a sandwich and salad from Sessions West Coast Deli and met the girl who set up the picnic. The cheese board provided was so massive that we ended up eating the sandwich and nibbling on that. Didn't even touch our salad! They also provide amazing cookies, spindrift waters, and just an overall romantic setting. It was breathtaking. I wish we had been able to have a little table so we could set up our extra stuff, but a lot is a la carte. Weather was gorgeous but yes, it's January, thus it was freezing once sunset came and the wind kicked in. So the pros- amazing staff, prompt at replies and great communication, beautifully done picnic set up, so detailed and lovely. Cheese board was outstanding! Fruit and extras were wonderful too! Super unique event- very special. Cons- soooo expensive! (Our package was the basic of the basic and still was $298 after all was said and done) Your everyday person could rarely afford to do this unless it was an anniversary, or milestone birthday, or even a special girls event that you do with friends and split the cost. I wish it was a more affordable or included more included time to hang out/more food provided- because I'd be planning picnics all the time! Lol. And our little basket/table type thing could have been way larger- there wasn't any room to put anything else on it. From all the photos I saw, I kind of expected a small picnic type table. Hands down one of the most creative, dreamy, special ways to spend my mom's 50th birthday. The surprise was for her, but I was extra surprised myself. Booking the event was extremely easy, I read other reviews about the planners not reaching out prior to the event, but the truth is that you don't really need to hear from them. All of the plans are in writing when you sign the agreement, the location and time are set prior to the date (also in writing). The day the event, the crew reached out and let me know they were setting up along with texting me a location pin. The Picnic Collective went above and beyond with the details. The flowers were beautiful, the grazing boards were delicious, everything was absolutely beautiful! I purchased the sandwiches for each guest and they were yummy. The only extra things I brought myself were a cake and alcohol. (mini champagne bottles and seltzers along with a trash bag to keep the alcohol bottles out of sight :) They provide pretty glass looking cups and it made us feel extra fancy. The blue tooth speaker was a nice touch to set the mood with music. Overall 10/10 I would hire them again for another special occasion. I was so happy with everything. If your picnic is at the beach like most are, I recommend arriving 30min early, plan ahead because parking is a mother. Was really excited to order flowers from this company, their work seemed flawless. I worked with Annie and she was very helpful through text messaging. I made sure to ask if what I was getting would look just like the picture I was sending her. She said it would be the same, just the vases would be different. Boy was I wrong! My large bouquets looked nothing like the picture I sent her. When I reached out to tell them how disappointed I was, Kristen texted me (no phone call) to say that it was the same just the vases were different and offered 10% off. I feel extremely duped. I was happy to pay the almost $900 bill for flowers that matched the pictures, not for flowers that people literally thought I put together myself. I'm attaching pictures of our convo and what the flowers promised looked like and actually was. Also, some flowers on different bouquets were wilted and roses were dead by day 2. So they're not using fresh flowers. Be wary before working with this company. ****ADDED UPDATE in response to business owners response: I did ask for discount in exchange for social media posts, which is pretty standard nowadays. They work with a lot of influencers. But they wanted to charge over $5,000 for a full package which was out of my budget. When it came to the flowers, I met Annie in the store and she actually was the one who told me she would discount me without me asking, which I think was because I was ordering so much. And I appreciated her saying that. However, she did not give me any discounts, which was fine.I paid in full for the first order and then added another 4 or 5 arrangements, and at that point I did ask for a discount for adding even more. Which she said she would make the arrangements fuller. $900 is not a budget or free amount to pay on flowers. And it was not about the price. I was happy to even pay for the $129 premium, as you can see in my text, but since the vase was the only thing different, I did not. I'm adding more pictures that shows the time stamp of when the photos were taken. They were placed outside at 12:45. Party began at 1pm. It was a cool 70degree day. Flowers were in the house by 6pm. I messaged Annie as soon as my husband brought the flowers home. He told me one was wilted that he noticed at the store and they switched it out. One picture I'm including is a completely dead rose two days later. I've never had flowers die that quickly. I'm sorry, I know Annie is a great florist & helpful with me, but regardless, WHAT I THOUGHT WE AGREED I WAS GETTING, IS NOT WHAT I RECEIVED. I've learned my lesson, and will work with someone else in the future. I stand by my review. read more

I ordered the pick up "Picnic & Go" package and it was not clear where this would need to be picked up. Had I not gone on Google/Yelp and put the pieces together there is only one location for pick up, despite them servicing LA/OC areas, it is ONLY available to pick up in Costa Mesa. So frustrating and there are ZERO refunds. Should make it way more clear and also confirm or note with people prior to purchase where you would need to pick this up. So now i'm $60+ out of pocket and will have to recreate this on my own and spend more time and money to do it. Lovely idea but really disappointed with the lack of clarity or help in refunding or even offering a credit. read more

Stay away from The Picnic Collective They hide all their lawyer talk in a section called "The Boring Formalities" I already paid half, which they won't refund. 50% Then I see a 20% service fee (which they said was set up and cleaning fee. They also hit me with a $180 travel fee after I completed my final payment and tipped. I saw on other people's 1 stars that is was a tip. They told me the 20% was setup and removal. I gave them a 30% tip essentially. So basically after telling them I don't like how they run their business they continually said no refund and so we went on the picnic anyways We stayed for a third of our allotted time. They didn't set up the umbrella in a way to shade the table. I had to rearrange everything If you want to spend 1000s just to get some good IG photos then this is the place for you They don't even bother to wash the fruit. The food was subpar, couldn't eat the sandwich. THEY PROBABLY STILL DON'T HAVE FOOD HANDLERS CARDS There's other companies that'll do a beach picnic for a quarter of the price and you get identical service It took them forever to answer what the hidden 20% fee was (I asked 4 times) after they took a non refundable 50% deposit. I went on a Monday. You could have easily cancelled, we didn't even want to go. You knew this review was coming I guess you're so invested in paying influencers that you have to squeeze people to hit your bottomline. Hopefully you weren't paying them too much read more
