She set up an appointment for a photo shoot at our home. He arrived a few minutes early, was cordial and respectful. After taking a moment to get the lay out of our home he chose to use the living room. He comes fully equipped and it took him no time at all to get set up. Love that he plays music during the shoot and his manner helped put my daughter at ease. He guided her poses and showed the shots he took on the IPad. Brett photographed my wedding and he was so good to work with, I can never say enough good things…read moreabout him! I had had my heart set on another photographer for my wedding but I was getting the run around as far as if they were available or not when I went to a bridal fair and came across the booth Brett had set up there. My now husband and I spoke to him and looked through some of his work and we pretty quickly decided to book him. The thing that appealed to us the most is that he does things outside of the typical wedding pictures - the wedding packages include a beautiful hardcover book in which your photos are showcased on linen pages. The bride and groom get to select the pictures for this book and then Brett adds some of his own choosing. He can put the pictures on 3D photographic paper, which really shows the color and texture of the picture beyond just a normal print. During the reception, he takes the bride and groom outside for a sunset photo shoot and then does another one with backlighting after dark; seriously, what photographer usually stays at the reception after the bouquet and garter toss?! Beyond the fact that Brett thinks outside the box, he is also incredibly agreeable and easy to work with; the day really is all about you and your wedding, he wants you to set the tone and he will do pretty much whatever you ask. His wife works as his assistant and his daughter is his second photographer. Any picture Brett is taking, his daughter is taking from another angle, so it really is as if every moment is captured. On our wedding day, Brett's daughter stayed with me and my bridesmaids to photograph us while we got ready and Brett was with the groom and groomsmen, taking pictures of them getting ready. (I also found out later that Brett and his family had paid a visit to the chapel in which we were married and to our reception venue in the couple of weeks prior to our wedding so he could get ideas and prepare for the day.) Back to the wedding day, they shot pictures continously from the time they showed up at noon until they left the reception at 10pm! My husband and I recently got our proofs back and the sheer number of them shows how dedicated they both were to documenting our wedding day. Brett called me to make sure that I had gotten to look at the pictures and he was so animated, telling me how he loves to put the books together and really tell the story of the wedding day through the pictures. He mentioned specific pictures that were his favorites and also pointed out some details in a few that we hadn't noticed yet. His dedication and passion for his work really comes through when you talk to him, he's a great guy and talented photographer. I've been struggling with the idea of writing this review, but feel compelled to share our…read moreexperience, as I am sure others may find themselves in the same situation. We first met Otto through a Craigslist advertisement, where he was searching for models to help him explore areas around his new neighborhood of Joliet, IL, to give him inspiration for future shoots there. As the newly-engaged fiancee to a photographer myself, I felt compelled to respond to the ad, and within a few days, we had met Otto in downtown Joliet. As far as Otto's technique and professionalism, I know that the dynamic between a couple and their photographer largely depends on the personalities of each person and the intention with which they approach the shoot, but my partner and I were a bit put off by the excess of light boxes and staged posing. Still, for couples who seek photographers with this style, I do think that Otto would be a great match. Otto is a very friendly and funny person, and we felt that he was respectful and supportive of our relationship, which I am sure is hugely important for any couple contracting someone to capture it on their wedding day! When we received the images from the shoot, we were happy with his work and very grateful that he shared these with us. It wasn't until recently that I began to feel a bit uncomfortable about having worked with Otto. I had stumbled across something he had published that hinted at an anti-gay mentality, and was surprised by this finding. I was initially hurt, but my partner pursued it further with him to allow him the opportunity to explain what he meant. We were met with a response that was offhand and flippant regarding our concern, and could not help but feel the sting of hypocrisy at its finest. This review is not meant to attack Otto on his stance on LGBT rights, as everyone is entitled to his opinion, but I think it is disheartening to work with someone who claims he is supportive of gay marriage when he is working with a gay couple (for monetary gain or otherwise), and who then turns his back on the issue when he is no longer under contract. This may not mean much to most people, as questions of their unions never surface, but I would be doing a disservice to myself and the LGBT community at large by not revealing our experience.

And although we worked together on many projects, photography was always his strongest love and passion. When we worked together, you could appreciate his sense of detail, his eye and ability to bring out the best in people by disarming the situation. It was a no-brainer when the time came to get married that Otto would be the one to do the photos. We didn't want the standard photos you see so often. We'd seen the work he's done for others and in his own home with his family. With only one request (big family photos), we left him alone to do his work: gave him free reign, full access. And with that, his thoughtful, photojournalistic style made our wedding as vivid in stills as it did in real life that day. In terms of logistics, our non-standard wedding (outdoors, in a public park) were no problem for Otto. He quick assessed the situation and delivered stunning photography that has been the rave of everyone who has seen them. He is strongly strongly recommended. He was very creative, and had…read morenumerous suggestions for where we could take beautiful outdoor shots (we chose the Japanese Gardens in Geneva, IL which were incredibly beautiful). He set up a beautiful and emotional first look for us there as well. I loved that he personalized my package for what I was looking for (I had a breakfast in the morning I was hoping he could photograph- and he said no problem), and that he got all of the big moments in our day- from getting ready until the very end- he literally traveled around with us all day. My favorite part was that we walked from the church to the reception hall and he had someone in my family move his car over so he could walk with us and photograph our private moments together. Ese is friendly and fun, and my bridal party enjoyed him throughout the entire day. He definitely shoots in the photo journalistic style, so there will not be a lot of time spent on "group shots" unless you specifically ask. Ese is a bit pricey, but his price included the day- I never felt like he was going to say, "your eight hours are up, I'm leaving even though there are still big things to happen" which is different than many photographers I've seen at events.
