Having cycled round Loch Katrine my girlfriend and I arrived at the tearoom for 3.15. We were starving by this point so went immediately in to ask if we could order food. The waiter said yes, I'll bring you a menu. I asked if we could sit outside to which he agreed.
10 minutes later, and with no menu arriving, my girlfriend went in to get said menus, which they gave us.
20 minutes later when no-one had been out to see us we went back in to order. At this point they told us the kitchen was closed and we could only have a sandwich and one bowl of soup. We took this as it was seemingly our only choice.
During this time another couple had arrived, sat down outside and seemingly had to go through the same rigmarole to get menus. However, they were promptly served burgers and chips, which they had ordered after us. We still waited for our food.
We eventually served one watered down bowl of soup and two sandwiches, the woman serving giving us the kind of disdain that should never be experienced by paying customers. She said here's your food, sorry for the delay but you got it, glancing at her watch as if to suggest we were late for the lunch menu.
I cannot understand why, when we arrived earlier than the other couple, we were given such poor service and they were not. We are both quiet and polite, although a little scruffy after our long cycle. Perhaps this was the reason, but I'll never know.
