Both were a-maz-ing. The sandwiches were made fresh, stayed great until we got to the later in the day, and were portioned well. I kind of want to go back to get another few sandwiches, but sadly I've left Scotland and am back in the states (and my routine work-life). It was about 9 am and already quite busy, it seemed like everybody who was on the way to Isle of Skye or Glencoe was stopping here. They are known for good sandwiches so we got 2 different ones to try. Both sandwiches came with a purple color coleslaw that was good but we found all the coleslaw in Scotland had too much mayo for our preference. Pastrami with Swiss sandwich: Proper pastrami that is a nice pink with black crust from the nitrates and smoking process. Plenty of cheese and meat but it was very large, had to save half for later or I wouldn't have been able to drive. Turkey sandwich: with pickles and white cheddar, they had some kind of mayo spread that was good. This was surprisingly tasty and we ended up eating more than the kids. If you go down the alley on the side you can eat at a little lake in the back. There's a hill with Worden steps you can climb and from the top you can see a small, old cemetery. They had a wide assortment of country loaves for sale as well!

However the most popular order seemed to be the high tea for two, which at £5 per person is amazing! The atmosphere is lovely, with a mix of couple, familes and quite a few grannies being treated to tea and cakes by their grandkids. The decor is nothing fancy, but the setting and welcoming staff easily makes up for it There is fabulous selection of Suki teas and homemade baking. Soups of the day this week were tomato with basil and potato and leek. Last wee I tried the curried butternut squash which was amazing! The setting is lovely and the food is well worth the 15min drive from Dennistoun. There is a garden centre and lovely views onto the loch so you could easily spend a few hours over a coffee, chatting and escaping city life. It was a rainy day: drizzling : that consistency of rain that makes you feel a bit run down. I was met with the most delicious, warming coffee: a very smooth latte, that had such a lovely taste that there was no need for a drop of sugar. They were out of most of their pastries by the time I sat in--due to their popularity, I have no doubt. I chose one of their remaining items: a small cake that had a touch of lemon and a raspberry on top of a creamy frosting. It was delicious--a welcomed treat when I felt in need of a pick me up. I did not have a chance to test their food so am unable to comment. Do note however: This is a VERY small place. Cozy to be sure, but small and by no means for larger groups. It is ideal for the soloist and duos to come in and have a fairly quick coffee, cake, and food (I assume). This is NOT a place to study. There are no comfortable lounge chairs, chairs or tables. The seating is composed of stools that reside at two bars. It's kind of reminding me of Italian style cafes where you drink your espresso at the bar, across from the barista who just served it to you (though in Rome, they don't offer you stools even!). There is a solid divide between the staff, some are lovely and have a jokey presence around them that truly makes you feel comfortable and is what made me come back. However some staff are incredibly rude. I'm not a very social person, so I don't mind people who aren't SUPER EAGER to talk, not to mention I work in hospitality and understand not always loving customers. But a few staff members are consistently rude, and standoffish. They have this pretentious presence and I can feel them rolling their eyes and scoffing at me. I just think a little goes a long way, and I'm not asking for much but working in a coffeehouse you can't complain you get customers. Overall a positive review for if you just need a place to study, eat, or get things done. But if you're looking to hang out with friends, you'll get eye rolls and scoffs. One more thing - there is a heavy distinction between upstairs and downstairs. It was not the most kindest place I visited, but it was good enough for a stop and also because the other place I wanted to go to was overcrowded. I got a ginger cake and Americano. The cake was a bit on the dry side and too sweet for me. Prices are on the higher side, but guess that's what you pay nowadays in Pitlochry. Oh yes, and only one toilet.
