All the food is made from scratch. Big portions and good quality. Service is a bit slow owing to having one person assembling the sandwiches and burgers. Outdoor and outdoor door seating and it's a short walk from the beach and lion rock. Lots of seats with tables and picnic tables for seats. Crowded the week of Christmas with a mix of tourists and local Kiwis.

Loved this place. The wait was a little excessive (like 20+ min I think for our food?) but it was well worth it. The view from the big window and patio was gorgeous - Piha beach is right below. I had some combination of marinated mushrooms on toast. This is such an odd/effing delicious combination to me, but it made me realize that I don't cook enough with mushrooms at home! So good. Their menu is a little odd and confusing, with pizza only an option in the evenings or certain days? IDK, but definitely beware if you're heading there with that in mind - bc we were definitely let down by this. There aren't many other options to grab a bite in the area but if you can handle the wait, it's definitely worth your time and appetite!

we came here after relaxing at the beach all day. The outdoor seating gets a peak at the beach ahead and the indoor seating and rustic and warm. They were clearing out their cabinets already so i have to quickly select what we wanted... i was confused as to whether we point and tell them what we wanted at the cabinet or go straight to the cashier... so we just stood around while they looked at us but didn't ask us if we needed any help... That's ok... eventually we got out egg noodle salad and berry crumble. The egg noodle salad was delicious!!! i dunno whether that is because they added the instand noodle seasoning into it or because they just got the flavours right? either way we enjoyed it, albeit a bit oily for a salad. The berry crumble was my sort of dessert as it tasted very healthy, which i'm into but other didn't really like it. And also came with a side of yoghurt which was winning for me. 3 stars for lacking in service or attention to waiting customers... but i would definitely come again if im in the area !

This little place is definitely on the must do list if you're in Piha... Although... Not sure how many options there are. No, really, it's delicious. The Roasted Carrot and Cumin Soup is fantastic and I will be stealing the recipe (or attempting my own spin). It's so simple and yet so perfect for a stormy winter day, as is the café itself... Very cozy. Great atmosphere and lots of natural light. Oh, and did I mention the Ginger Crunch was AMAZING!!!!!! But don't buy just one. You will regret it, if you don't take some home.

If you're like me and need coffee wherever you go, I was so excited to hear that there is now a cafe by Piha Beach. When I went there I was even more excited because it's awesome. They've really kept the whole beach vibe going but have done it without it looking cliché or too casual. It's a relaxed place but will still be sweet for even the most stuck up Aucklanders. They do an epic pizza and even have gluten free bases. These are perfect after you've worked up a huge appetite after a day out on the water. We like to have a beer, sit out in their outdoor area and watch the sunset. Such bliss. This is a must if you're out Piha ways, or even if you're not just go for a drive out there. It's an awesome café and is a really nice change from most of the cafes in Auckland city.

The nicest staff in all of North Island in New Zealand during my short trip. The staff opened up their shop late, only because they had to stir up the generator to serve the countless amounts of people waiting to try their food. I got the roast lamb sandwich and a cinnamon bun. Both amazing to top off my first Flat White in New Zealand. If I ever come back to Piha Beach, I'd hope to pass by again!

Best Burger Ever! Served on 2 Buns of garlic bread ! MMMMMMMM

This is a must stop if you are near Piha beach! We are here from California and aren't lacking in places for excellent food, but the burger here is to die for! The place is unassuming and set back from the road a bit. We decided to try it and it did not disappoint. My husband had the spinach, feta, and quinoa patty which was very, very good too! Lots of space to eat outside or grab a table near the open windows and enjoy the ocean breeze. Enjoy!

Great pizza. Great beer. Great breakfast. Super friendly staff. Will go back in a heartbeat.

cool vibe at The Piha Cafe

Great, it's the weekend and we've booked in with dog walking buddies to meet at Piha. Nothing beats an early morning walk on the beach followed by brunch at what is now an institution, the Piha Café. Laid back atmosphere, funky interiors and plenty of comfy seating indoors or out on the deck. I'm loving the muesli for brunch, their home made pizzas are delicious, salad is great, actually whatever is on the menu is all right by us. Disappointed last Waitangi Day when we visited and they were closed for the day, I guess even Piha Café deserves a day off.

I still can't believe the furore this place caused when it was announced it was opening. Considering how well it fits in with Piha, and the greatness of being able to get a good cup of coffee right by the beach, the organisers of the petition against it must come here nowadays with their metaphorical tail between their legs. Unfortunately, the place was let down a bit by the near morbid atmosphere on the weekday we visited. The music was inaudible , the staff unsmiling and half the menu was unavailable to try - apparently they only sell pizzas on the weekend, which kind of sucks considering they make up the lions share of the food on offer. I guess it's partly a result of having a monopoly on the cafeteria market in Piha, but I left with the feeling everyone working there was phoning it in.

    The counter to order.

This is my new favorite cafe. Not only was the Greek salad great, but the owners and staff were ridiculously friendly. They also went above and beyond to help my family and I get back to Auckland since we didn't have a ride. 10/10 would recommends for the food, service, coffee and great view. We will certainly be returning next time we are in Piha!

Amazing service ! Pretty good food

It's a fairly new establishment in the area, but it's become a regular hangout for a few beers and very good food. You definitely feel the '80's vibe when you're there, and its always nice to see a little appreciation for that era. Their pizzas are delicious, particularly 'Rangi's Hangi' and 'Larry the Lamb'. They do a very nice caesar salad and my favourite main has to be the crispy chicken burger with aioli and melted brie- one of the best restaurant burgers I've had. They've got a good range of ciders and do a few cocktails to quench your thirst. They also serve most of their drinks in 600mL milk bottles, which is a really cool touch. I'd have to say that Nineteen Eighty One is best known for their fortnightly Wednesday quiz nights. The place gets packed and its always a good laugh- there's even a prize for the team that comes second to last.

Most of the food stands didn't open up for another 20mins, so we wandered around reading all of the menus and deciding what we wanted. The last stand we came across was Burg'z. Whom I believe was the owner said "we are cooking up a beef and a chicken burger for a photo shoot. Would you like them after, since we're just going to toss them?". I already had my eye on this place and free dinner sounded like something we couldn't say no to, so we accepted. We purchased some awesome fries and beers to accompany our meals. Let me say that this review has nothing to do with the fact that our burgers were free. They were fantastic! Large, flavorful, fresh and filling! We shared as we both like chicken and beef and were beyond satisfied. The owner (I think) and his coworker were very sweet and we had the best experience. I wish we had room for the list of amazing milkshakes on their menu, but unfortunately we did not. We thanked them with a gracious tip and went on our way. I'm not sure who was taking photos but my guess is the NZ Urbanlist or something similar on Instagram. Can't wait to see them as I am sure they represent the taste well!
