We've been there a few times and a couple of times it seemed like the service was a bit slow. We have had to remind the waitstaff what we ordered. They're always polite and apologetic about anything missed, but they are a bit slow fairly often. The food is unimpeachable. The taste of almost everything on the menu is amazing. The portion size of the menu can be a bit mismatched. I'm not that hungry of a person but a single sushi roll will not suffice for your average appetite. Be prepared to order multiple courses or a few sides but it can add up fairly quickly. I usually get the hot roll and something else but it usually comes out to about 45 euro or 50 usd. Mind you, there are only two women at a bar with about 10-12 chairs and they were paying their bill and preparing to leave! So I am glad they could "find room" for us. The bartender asked us what we wanted without a smile or a welcome. I asked for a rum and a Rose for my wife. I drank my rum and about 20 minutes later, was ready for another. I pushed my glass towards the bar, as one does when you want another, and our bartender, another bartender and the owner/manager walked past that empty glass about 8-10 times without any acknowledgment that we were sat there. The whole vibe in Kinsale seems to be annoyance at the tourists. And it was clearly on display here. I would suggest going somewhere where you are welcomed. We are the ones that fees that economy.

This was easily the best of the four fish&chips we've tried so far in Ireland. Outstanding actually. The batter had the most perfect crunchy texture, wasn't too thick, and it adhered well. The fish was just-off-the-boat fresh, flaky and cooked just right. The portion was enormous - two fillets, one large and one medium, with a relatively small portion of good fries. The tartar sauce was tangy with tiny chopped pickles. Vinegar was available at the table. This was served with a small salad of lettuces, spinach, scallions, and onions. Price was surprisingly low given the portion, right around average for fish&chips in our experience so far. We ordered the entree salad with the locally made goat cheese add-on for a small extra charge. More excellent leafy greens, beets in small cubes, pomegranate seeds, picked onions, candied nuts and plenty of chèvre in large pieces. It was pre-dressed with vinaigrette and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Very good, a far better choice for us than two orders of fried fish. Also on the menu were 3 other kinds of fish (monkfish, black sole, and plaice), each prepared differently. Shrimp scampi, seafood au gratin, and steamed mussels rounded out the seafood section. Oysters are on the menu but they weren't available that day. Other than seafood there were also burgers (beef and veggie), chicken wings, soup of the day, chowder, a steak, lasagna, pan roasted duck breast, cannelloni, liver paté, spring roll, and more. So a very extensive menu here, and not just the same things found everywhere. Sadly we didn't have room to try their desserts, which included sticky toffee pudding, banoffi pie, flourless chocolate cake, and meringue pie with raspberries and ice cream. They were hard to pass up.
