There were tropicals, cacti, caudiciforms, aquatic plants, rare/variegated plants, and even a whole shelf of Hoyas! I was in awe the entire time I looked around - such diversity in one shop! The owner is extremely friendly and kind. She gave me a quick rundown of ficus care when I checked out, even though it was busy with many customers around. Thanks to fellow Yelpers to redirect me to there when I was in the area and decided I wanted to get some plant babies to make company to the rest of my plant fam. The first thing that you notice in this unassuming store in East San Jose is the retro look of the facade, with that retro 60s look and the baby blue. That in itself is a cool finding for me (I like that interesting 'strip mall look' from other times. As others have mentioned, the girl working in the shop is just wonderful. I was mesmerized by her obvious beauty and her great passion explaining in detail and taking her time to describe the plants she was selling, how to take care of them. It's been amazing to see this establishment grow throughout the pandemic. There's such a wide variety of plants provided here - from $5 succulents, to more rare plants such as string of dolphins/hearts, philodendrons, and tropical plants such as wide range of calatheas, and ficus, monsteras, etc!! The Plant Sitter really is a hidden gem in East Side San Jose. With so many expensive plant boutiques popping up across the Bay Area, this is the one we ALL needed. The plants and pots/stands are reasonably priced and very unique. You won't find just your typical overpriced pot that you see at every plant boutique. The selection of healthy, vibrant looking indoor and succulent plants is amazing. Succulents go for $2.50 while other small houseplants go for $10-$15 depending on size. The pot selection is fantastic. There are adorable preplanted plants that come with terracotta or woven baskets. Not to mention they offer beautifully and thoughtfully crafted plant gift baskets. What wonderful gift ideas! The owner is incredibly sweet, warm, and knowledgable about plants. I initially came here to buy succulents to plant in my empty beer cans and she gave me a lot of useful information about repotting them and the danger of cooking the roots due to the aluminum cans. Totally appreciated the tips! The interior is quite small yet cozy. The shop itself is well lit and very clean and organized. I was looking for some unique, exotic plants and I came across the Plant Sitter from my search in Yelp. The place is located in downtown San Jose off 280 and South First Street. It's easy to miss while driving so keep an eye out. It's in the same building as the furniture store next to it. When I went inside, the place was well lit and the plants were well organized and taken care of very well under UV lights and watering. The owner was knowledgeable of the plants and gave me very good advice. I was torn between a bonsai or a money tree. Given the sizes she had and the space in my room, I settled for the money tree. She said the money tree won't grow too fast which eased my mind because I don't have that much space for it to grow. With winter here, I was concerned about there being no sunlight. She assured me that UV lights will work as she has that throughout her store. A good UV lamp is expensive which wasn't in my budget. She said a UV lightbulb will do. They are standardized to many lamps. As I mentioned, the owner gave good advice :) She also helped me find the right size vase and transfer the pot to a smaller one so it fit in the vase. All and all great service and a variety of plants. read more

My friend had sent me the Yelp page for this shop and we decided to come by together when it opened on Saturday. A couple people were already in line waiting to go in. When we entered I noticed how organized the plants were. Each plant was carefully placed on each shelf spaced out evenly from each other. All the plants looked healthy and happy. The store owner Natalie was very welcoming and offered insight on the plants we were interested in. My friend asked her about a specific plant and she took her time to share tips and tricks with her. I continued browsing and found pots and planters. The tiny ones caught my attention and I ended up purchasing 4 beautiful cork wrapped glass pots. I also found a string of pearls and a Variegated Ficus Benjamina which I purchased too. I saw a bucket with masks and Natalie told me they were made in Thailand so I checked out the designs and purchased one. We found some plants that were on a table close to the register and Natalie let us know she was not ready to sell them until the plants were established and thriving. I felt confident making my plant purchase from her because she is responsible and aware of the care of the plants she is selling. I asked her when she opened and she said about a month ago. She was very excited and energetic talking about plants with us. We had a great personalized visit. She's friendly and passionate about her plants and shop. She has a great variety of plants, pots, stickers, and masks. She's open to holding a plant of interest if you dm her on IG. She was wearing a mask and had hand sanitizer by the register.
