Angelic has so much knowledge about orchids; she has over thousands and thousands of different varieties/species. She also has rare orchids if that is your cup of tea. I ordered this Encyclia Priority FedEx Express, to arrive overnight and then be held inside a (warm) FedEx location for pickup. Without contacting me, the owners decided to ship it by USPS. This takes 2-3 days and FedEx will not accept USPS packages to hold for customers. I called and Angelic was too busy to talk to me "because of taxes and preparing for shows". Andrew called me back and made no apology. Because I know the local FedEx staff, the postman dropped the box and walked out, I happened to be home and went immediately, I got the plant. It is cold damaged, in nasty dirt/old moss potting material. Angelic told me it had two spikes (which actually didn't matter to me), it only has one. Worst orchid buying experience. This business sent a dead cattleya that was 5in pot for $95 with no live roots and even pests in the soil. The order included two other orchids as well. Paid for the two day shipping USPS, which they then changed to UPS three day shipping. Shipped during a cold spell where the owner agreed to include hot packs prior to shipping. They were not included. The plants arrived severely damaged, yellowed, and the cattleya was absolutely not fit for sale. When approached about the shipping, the owner refused to own their fault in sending a dead orchid or acknowledge the pest that they had sent with it. Instead they demanded I spend more money on shipping and handling to send them the shriveled waste that I received. Avoid their poor business model. Honestly disappointing in how poorly this company did in this shipping. I am so grateful to have experienced it now, as I found a better store in Hawaii who was far more capable of meeting my needs. I bought the same orchid from Kawamotos in Hawaii, which was shipped by the agreed 2 day shipping and arrived with hot packs. Kawamotos orchids were on 39 dollars for 5in pot, and were shipped with healthy roots and continue to grow. Maybe Orchid Design could take some pointers from their Hawaiian competitors and do better. read more

I got a plant from them, Stanhopea tigrina 'The Predator' FCC/AOS. A very rare plant indeed. It is actually a division of the original awarded plant, so I feel very fortunate to have it. They were very nice, and their customer care was great. The shipped quickly and it arrived quickly (I think in to days). It was packed perfectly and there was no damage to a single leaf. The plant is HUGE. I mean, massive. It is growing in what is probably an 8 inch basket, but it has outgrown that and the new growths are going every direction, a lot of them climbing down the side of the basket. I'm not even going to try to repot it. It would be such a difficult repot, and it seems very happy, so I'm going to just let it do it's thing, so it's really more like it's mounted than potted. Anyway, the plant was listed as having 5 flower spikes starting, however the owner said that she moved the plant to take pictures for the listing, and then didn't put it back where it was before. She thinks it got too much sun and not enough water, and the buds all blasted. That's okay with me. I'm buying an orchid plant. If it has buds on it, that's an added bonus, but if it doesn't, that's fine too. I will wait, and it will bloom again when it's ready. Plus, it's still early in the tigrina blooming season, so I may still get some flowers after all before it's all said and done. However, because of the lost flower buds, she knocked the price down from 200 to 150, which wasn't t all necessary, but I really appreciated it just the same. Another example of their great customer service. They clearly wanted to do whatever they had to do to make sure I was happy. I love my plant, and I'm so excited to have it. I browsed their website, and they have some really cool stuff. I'm sure I'll be doing business with them again. I can't tell you what a positive experience I had with Orchid Design. read more

I purchased a coelogyne usitana online. Upon receiving the plant there was a nice note explaining the leaves had been trimmed due to leafburn and high temperatures. No problem. However, the plant had become unpotted in shipping. USPS had banged up the box pretty well. Unfortunately, this revealed the plant medium was wet and completely decayed. There was almost total root loss. Roots were black, dead and smelled of overwatering and decay. This plant should have been repotted ages ago and surely should not have been made available for purchase, especially at the price that I paid for it. read more

If you're looking to get orchids (mainly cymbidiums and cattleyas) and want something different than what's offered at your local nursery or hardware store, then Orchid Design will have what you're looking for. Orchid Design is usually by appointment only since the orchids are grown in Angelic's (owner) backyard both under patios with screen covering and a greenhouse that her husband built. Throughout the year they will have an open house to the public or they can been seen at local orchid shows such as the San Francisco Orchid Expo and Orchids In The Park in Golden Gate Park. For most of the orchids she has available, the price is fair, but some can be very expensive. I once bought a hard-to-find cymbidium for $120 along with some other orchids and I asked if she could take off $10 since she had a handful more. She didn't even budge. I would have passed on the $120 cymbidium considering there's a few nurseries in and around Santa Barbara that sell it for $60 shipped, but I need it fast for Mother's Day. Shame on me for poor planning. When they're available, Orchid Design also has potting mixes such as bark, coconut and perlite for sale. Competetive to what you'd get from local nurseries, but considering how hard it is to get coconut husk chips this place is your best bet. They also offer floral and graphic design. Overall, a place you should check once if you're a fan of orchids. Best time to check out this place is open house in spring. You'll be like "wow, the colors!" read more

She got some of them from Australia 20 years ago. I tried to buy these rare orchids from Australia the past few years and all the Australian nursery's there refused to ship here. Angelic, the owner and talented grower of every type of orchid imaginable runs a magnificent orchid nursery. Her nursery isn't open to the public but her orchids are available for purchase by appointment. She grows thousands of them primarily for sale at orchid shows. There are orchids here that you will never see at a florist or even other nurseries. She also creates floral arrangements by special order. I came here looking for the Jiuhbao Red Rose 'Monet' and of course left with 2 more. The prices were very fair considering the type and health of the plants. This place isn't a retail location of any kind and finding it was like....where's Waldo. This sweet older woman that shows her orchids and takes precious pride in her flowers words out of her tiny home that's just chaos and beauty everywhere. She has some of the most interesting flowers I've ever seen. I found her by checking yelp for help with my dying orchid. I called and it wasn't like a business answering. But when I explained the reason for my call the gentleman (her husband) chuckled and said you want my wife. She's like that (meaning charitable). She took me back to her greenhouse and taught me about my plant. She even said I'd done a very good job caring for it and that it wasn't dying just losing it's blooms and now it was time to prepare it for dormancy and it will bloom again. She trimmed it up, replant it, watered it. All very intensely and passionately, giving me tips along the way. When she was done she showed me a precious black orchid. Something I'd never seen only heard of. She says she doesn't sell to the public that her plants are for show only. But was even kind enough to sell me an orchid I was admiring at a crazy fair price. It got dark and her husband walked me to my car and waited to make sure I got on my way ok. It's so nice to meet lovely people. read more

Tooo Baddd. They do NOT have an consisted price for their orchid. I went there to check on the price two days before I have my truck to pick up the orchid. Two days later I came back the price was double. They told me " It is because the vendor stick the price tag on the orchid they have no idea". I understand that the day I came to pick up was close to the Chinese New Year that why they increase the price double. That is not Honest to customer.
