This is more of a Chicago staple for me than rainbow cone. You want the creamiest ice cream than look no further than plush horse. This place can be incredibly popular so be prepared to wait in line. The wait in line is perfect because they have a ton of various homemade flavors you can choose from. On the day we went the line moved pretty quick though as I feel they got it down to a science. The place is in an old house which does have a pretty interesting history from my research. 1893: The building was originally constructed as a farmhouse. Early 1900s: A general store operated within the building. Later: The building also served as a butcher shop and an antique shop. (Rumor is this is where the famous demonic butcher of a palos operated out of). 1937: The Itzel family opened an ice cream parlor in the building, which was originally called The Hobby House. 1951: The name was changed to The Plush Horse. 1971: John Harms became the owner. Today: The Plush Horse in Palos Park remains a popular spot for ice cream, known for its homemade flavors and nostalgic atmosphere and a must see on anyone's list!

Cute ice cream shop with so many flavors of ice cream and then coffee as well. There was a line out the door but it moved pretty quickly. Once we paid the wait wasn't too long either. Very cute and worth a visit if you're around the area.

One of my favorites ice cream shops. I grew up around the area and try to stop by with my kids whenever we come down for a visit. They have a flavor for everyone and their scoops are generous. They always have a line to order, which always seems to go by pretty quickly. The inside is small with only a few tables to sit at, but outside there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy your ice cream- weather permitting. I love their apple pie ice cream and my goal is to try to 1937- 37 mini scoops for 19.37!

Recently I decided to cut dairy from my diet, but I've been craving ice cream. I searched ice cream with dairy substitutes near me and The Plush Horse came up. I was a bit nervous about the taste of ice cream with no milk. But I'm here to tell you it was scrumptious! They have about 8 milk substitute/ vegan flavors. I chose my favorite, cookies & cream. The ice cream was made of coconut milk which gave extra flavor to my cookies & cream. A combination I otherwise may not have thought would be so delicious. The ambiance was cute. The color pink and ice cream flavors everywhere. They of course have adult size tables but I found the tables for the kiddos too cute. The service was good. There is a cashier who takes your order, to keep the line moving and worker's preparing the orders. It got pretty crowded and I overheard a few customers say how much they love this place. The regular ice cream must be a hit too!

My fiancee took me here. She said she's been visiting this place since she was in high school. It's definitely not in a location where I would expect an ice cream place to be. It's at a busy 4-way stop intersection. Definitely be careful crossing the street if you have kids. The ice cream place looks like it's in an old house from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Once you're inside, you'll see that they have horse stuff everywhere (The Plush Horse duh) They have so many flavors of ice cream. They also have shakes and some smaller candies. They have ice cream cones, waffle cones, and 3 different cup sizes. I got a large cup of cookie dough ice cream. Since it was so hot outside (they do have plenty of outside seating), we ate inside. The prices are reasonable, and the ice cream is delicious. From watching all the people coming and going, I can tell they have been coming back for generations. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. 5/5

This ice cream is delicious, and the flavors are spot on! I did not care too much for the pistachio, but chocolate chip was great, and waffle cone is a must. The cozy patio area adds a charming touch, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy your treat. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

No whipped cream? WTF is this ? Must be owned by BLACKROCK…read more I honestly don't understand how a place like Andy's Frozen Custard can open two minutes away from a legendary institution like The Plush Horse and completely miss the mark on what makes an ice cream experience great. First off--no whipped cream? Seriously? That's not some exotic topping... it's foundational. Whipped cream has been paired with ice cream for generations--it's part of the classic American dessert experience. To not even offer it is like a burger place refusing to carry cheese. It's not edgy, it's just lazy... Beyond that, the overall experience feels sterile and soulless compared to the character and nostalgia you get down the street. Places like Plush Horse have been creating memories for decades--real ice cream, real atmosphere, real tradition. What's frustrating is thinking kids might grow up associating this place with ice cream, when a true gem is right around the corner. Do yourself a favor: skip the disappointment and go where ice cream is done right. Go to Plush Horse. Andy's is trash

When I got home I was sadly disappointed! My cup was only 2/3rds full and it was already melting. There were a few oreos on top, but not many. As I ate it I wondered when I would hit the caramel and hot fudge. However, I never did!!!! The girl that made it put not one drop of either ingredient in it! And she was very unpleasant. What a ripoff. Stinks that ice cream places not only overcharge to keep profits up, but also save me money by not delivering on the product. I'm just going to family owned places in the future. Andy's doesn't deliver!
