Mixed feelings about The Pound Campsite.
Pros:
A fantastic lawn field that was teeming with lots of bird life
Excellent toilets and showers, which were spotless
Close to the river and The Boat Inn pub
Cons:
Close to a busy road with noisy traffic
The lady in charge of the campsite
I called ahead on behalf of the group in the morning and had a relatively casual chat with the man who answered the phone to see if they'd have room for four tents later that evening. They would have room and I said we'd arrive around 6pm.
Upon arrival a lady found us and confirmed if we were the group of four. I said it was four tents and there was six if us. She was put out that we'd not mentioned on the phone call there would be women in our group. I decided to let it go that it was a woman who made the phone call to them. You see she was peeved that she had to go off and get the keys to unlock the ladies toilets and showers, making no bones about expressing her annoyance.
Next by means of making polite conversation we mentioned in passing that we had launched here before a good few years ago. Again she expressed annoyance as she explained she owned the landing site and no one ever launched from here. We did say we had paid to launch here but she looked unconvinced.
I don't know, surely any good business person would want return business. But I can't see us ever returning here or recommending The Pound to anyone when we're were treated with the distain shown to us.
It was 7 GBP per person per night to stay at The Pound. read more
