Choosing a new home in assisted living for a loved one is a hard, challenging thing to do. There is so much to think about. So many changes coming at you, questioning if its the right decision, is the place safe, clean and a good fit, and can the person needing care fit in as you both face this bumpy transition. But, Junette, Mike and Sharma here at The Preserve all worked hard to help both me and my partner through the whole process and continue to do so after the initial transition. As a person who has worked in the fields of health and human services most of my career, I've seen my fair share of "facilities" which I wouldn't trust to take care of my cat, much less a parent or spouse. The Preserve at Palm Aire is the closest thing to a cruise ship resort designed with the health and well being of all its residents in mind. The staff have been uniformly helpful and caring on all levels; they provide in-house medical, nursing, PT/OT staffing; a pleasant colorful design and layout; pool and spa, lots of activities and resident volunteers who connect with new people to help integrate them into the community. There are social work supports, clean and well kept rooms, common areas and grounds. They provide levels of care based on the loved ones needs with an objective full assessment that focuses of supporting the resident's most possible support without taking away independence. They have great independent living quarters which frees you from mundane tasks such as housecleaning, meal prep and even dog walking, so you can focus on getting the most out of your body, mind and soul. The assisted living sections have aides checking in on residents every 4 hours and all of those residents are given "alert pendants" to wear 24/7 so that help is only a button push away. And if memory care is a concern for you or your loved one now or in the future, they provide both a Bridges program to maximize freedom while supporting memory and a more secure space for those who are at risk of wondering or in more advanced stages. My partner is adjusting well and has even made some fast friends due to their efforts to help him integrate. Families can visit anytime and either share a meal there with them or take your loved one out for a "night on the town". They are so small pet friendly that I and my service/therapy dog come multiple times a week and provide some pet therapy to staff and residents alike while visiting my loved one. Prices are comparable to other facilities, but they don't "nickel and dime you to death" and are upfront with monthly costs based on level of care and size of room. But, I see the value they provide for what is charged and cannot say that about many places. They also don't have outrageous "buy-in" fees. There is a small community entry charge which is FAR less then most places. The food is good and lots of it, though they could use a wider daily selection and will hopefully reopen their all-day self-serve community cafes with snacks soon. read more

my mother has been here for two weeks and remarkably, that is enough to be confident in the one star review. the problems that have arisen in even this short period are too numerous to mention but here is a partial list: 1. they refused to give my mother medication, the absence of which increased her risk of sudden death from a heart attack. their reasoning? state regulations prohibited them from so doing. evidently, killing a patient is less of a concern than a minor breach of state regs. now, as someone who has had to deal with government regulation i would normally be sympathetic to their plight here. except that it was their gross incompetence which brought the regulatory issue into play. 2. windows don't open in the apartment so that the room is always stuffy and smells of stale urine. somehow they neglected to mention this fact during the sales pitch. 3. bait and switch. promised a specific room but then, when it was very late in the process, rescinded the offer. subsequent events showed that they had foreknowledge of the probability that the original room would not be available yet said nothing. 4. upon move-in, there was an a/c leak resulting in a large puddle of water by the front door to the apartment. not good under any circumstance; intolerable when the resident uses a walker and has an increased risk of falling. 5. medical staff is by turns rude, condescending, uncaring and incompetent. 6. my mother ran out of pull-ups. true, it is the responsibility of family members to supply them. but when staff is aware that a patient it running low or actually out, nothing prevents them from making a 30 second phone call to advise the responsible family member. just too much trouble for them; or so it would seem. i could go on, but that should give you an idea. the overarching problem: management seems to think that the facility exists to provide them with a paycheck. residents and their needs are an afterthought. there is no visible effort to solve problems; but lots of effort put to explaining why requests cannot be accommodated. after speaking with other residents (and in light of my own experience), i suspect that many of the reviews are fake. i have yet to encounter a single resident or family member who would give a four or five star review. my advice: STAY AWAY. STAY FAR AWAY. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. read more

Our relative who suffers from Parkinson's dementia has been at The Preserve at Palm Aire for over a year and a half. We are very pleased with this facility and especially with the exceptionally kind, caring and "always ready to assist" staff. I have lost count of how many times Lisa, at the front desk, has assisted us with every type of question or concern. She, like the rest of the staff we have interacted with, really care about the residents and their families. Their patience and kindness is exceptional. Mike, the former assistant director, helped us numerous times and his kind concern and his knowledge of the resident's needs is impressive. Janice, the lovely lady who helps keeps things tidy always has a smile and does an amazing job. The staff at Bridges, including Abby and the angelic nurses and Rick, the director of Bridges, have knowledge and endless patience with residents and their families. Melanie, the executive and her staff are always accessible and available. The resident doctor, Dr Pham and his amazing assistant Wilkinson are the best one could ask for care of their loved one....as are the specialists who visit! Jenn, who comes and leads exercise sessions can actually inspire even my exercise shy relative to participate! I am sure I have left out others who contribute to the well being of my relative, but kudos and thanks to all! read more

With my father passing a month ago we began our search for an assisted living facility for mom. I recently moved into a Palm Aire condo and decided to have a look at The Preserve as its within walking distance for me. Upon contacting the facility I was immediately impressed with the outgoing friendliness of Alexandra Montgomery, Senior Living Counselor. She shared with my brother and I much needed information regarding the facility, prices , availability and services. We decided to leave a deposit. I brought mom over to The Preserve one day so she could see the facility and to meet with Alexandra. We pulled up to the entrance during a violent thunderstorm to find Alexandra and several administrators under the awning with fun party hats, noice makers and a giant welcome balloon! They were cheering and clapping. This made my mother so happy and turned what could have been a stressful situation into great fun. They all spent time talking with her and getting to know HER. I was very impressed how she was treated like an individual and not a "future admission". Unfortunately the Covid 19 pandemic is stopping us from moving mom in right now, however I relieved to know that when its allowed I have found the perfect place for my mother! read more

I moved my mom from another facility to this memory care. She had been at the other facility for almost three years. Things had gone from bad to worse there. Mom has been at the Preserve for one month and we are both so happy! They are already like family. Mom used to tell me everyday she wanted to go home but I haven't heard that once since she moved to the Preserve at Palm Aire! Grace Brown, the memory care director really cares. I love Elaine, the best LPN! All of the CNAs are wonderful and the activities staff is amazing. All the wonderful coordinators and marketing folks. And the executive team. We loved this place and are very sad to be moving my dad out so he can be closer to us in Miami and get a higher level of care he now needs. The tenets are happy and so is the staff. It is peaceful and well taken care of. The food is great and the apartments come with flat screen TV's. My father enjoyed his time in the independent wing and made new friends in short order. They even have a pool table for those inclined and a movie in the theater every night. Crooners come as well and sing all the old favorites. There is great entertainment. Meals are included and it is actually really yummy our whole family would come up in the weekend and dine with dad!! I can't list all the great things, but they really have it all right down to the little things like great water pressure! read more

Not at all happy with the changes at the Preserve in the last several years. Service for the assisted living residents is terrible, with only two CNAs for a floor with 30 residents! They cut the kitchen staff and it takes forever for meals to be served. Food is mediocre at best. Every time they change management companies it seems to get worse. read more

Do not let your loved one move to this place. They are horrible. The property is nice and they may promise you the moon, but they will not deliver. There were promises made about how the food service would run at lease signing and when my mother moved in, there were now charges for everything! We even had some items written into the lease and they are still charging my mother for these items. The business office will not return calls, I have called 7 times and still cannot speak to a person there. Mother is 96 and cannot move again, We are stuck. This review is being written to encourage families with aging parents that good care can be found without having to spend an excessive amount of monthly rent or a buy in. After visiting 12 assisted living facilities from Boynton to Pompano we chose the Preserve at Palm Aire. I can only speak for the independent living side of the complex. Here is my advise, if your parent can get out of bed on their own and on and off the toilet on their own they do not have to be placed in assisted living. At the Preserve, a professionally run building from top to bottom your loved one can hire their own in house home health service. Instead of worrying about the a la carte menu and point systems used in assisted living facilities you can get a full one bedroom with terrace, indoor storage room 2-3 meals of quality fresh food a day, full day activities with guided exercise to entertainment and in house religious services and pay less than assisted living. You can hire their team and buy the full patient care package. Your family member will have assistance in the a.m. transport to meals back and forth all day, assistance in the p.m and medication management. All the team members are very experienced and know how to work with people with memory loss. Their dining room staff is also trained to work with older people with various health issues including memory loss. They clean the carpets and main areas daily. They clean the apartments weekly provide laundry service for bedding inclusive. My relative has been a resident for nearly 11 months. Although there is always drama in these buildings my relative is treated with dignity, kindness and compassion. The sales team likes to refer to the ownership by nationally known investors, but the success of the building for nearly 30 years is their day to day staff. Many team members have worked there 15 years. Located in Palm Aire and near the Casino and Racetrack your relative will be safe. This is a great option for under $4000 per month inclusive. UPDATE. HURRICANE IRMA. BUILDING GUARANTEED HOUSING AT NEARBY HOTELS FOR EVACUATED RESIDENTS. THEY CANCELLED RESERVATIONS MADE IN ORLANDO AREA INSTEAD OF BOOKING ROOMS NEARBY FOR THEIR PEOPLE TO SAVE MONEY. THE ONLY GENERATOR WAS FOR THE FOOD SUPPLY. ONE ELEVATOR CAME ON AFTER 3 DAYS AND IT IS DAY 4 POST HURRICANE WITHOUT POWER IN THE BUILDING. RESIDENTS ARE NEARLY PRISONERS SINCE THE BUILDING WILL NOT CONNECT RESIDENTS TO THEIR WORRIED RELATIVES BY PHONE TO PRESERVE THEIR CELL SERVICE. FOR SOME ODD REASON THEY HAVE NO REAL LAND LINE. BEWARE. ALWAYS HAVE AN EVALUATION PLAN FOR YOUR PARENT. WE DID AND ITS NOT EASY TO FULFILL BUT THE PRESERVE IS NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH MORE THAN 1 STATE REGULATION FOR THIS TYPE OF FACILITY. RESIDENT MANAGER IS PRIMARILY INTERESTED IN PROMOTING HERSELF. read more

My mother who has vascular dementia lived at an assisted living facility/memory care for five years and while we were like family there, I felt it was time to move her. Things were changing at the facility and while I was hesitant to make a change, I thought it best. The facility and us were just not the right fit, so I found the The Preserve at Palm-Aire. My mother used to say every time she saw me: "I Want to go Home!" She hasn't said it once since she arrived at The Preserve. Everyone there is wonderfully kind and caring.
