Excellent outing day trip for the whole family! For this adventure, everyone stays in their vehicles with the windows down and the wild animals choose to approach the vehicles to be fed. The donkeys, llamas, ostriches, and alpacas all readily stuck their heads into our vehicle.
Current entry pricing is $15pp for ages 3+ and you'll definitely want to buy a produce bucket, currently $20 each. The produce bucket contains a handful of romaine lettuce (save it for the giraffes at the end), a handful of sliced carrot sticks (ALL the animals love this sweet treat so be sure to ration them or buy plenty up front) and pellet feed (for most of the cattle-like creatures and big birds, i.e. ostriches and emus). Note: hold the bucket firmly when feeding, especially the ostriches which forcefully peck into it, as bucket can easily fall out of your hands.
***Do NOT bring your own carrots or lettuce as grocery-store bought products can contain nitrates and pesticides that would harm the animals.***
The property is heavily wooded so you are pretty much in the shade the entire 3 mile drive even on a hot day. Make sure you have a full gas tank as the speed limit is 3mph plus stops to feed animals, it will take you an hour to get through this adventure.
A liability waiver is required to enter so you are signing away life, limb and vehicle damage. There were several cattle with HUGE horns blocking our pathway and they very easily could've damaged the vehicle by scraping the doors. Afterwards, we noticed a lot of marks on our doors but they wiped off. With that said, choose wisely on what vehicle to bring.
An improvement we would like to see are signs identifying the animals, as there was no signage. It would've been great to match a picture to name as to what animals we were feeding and seeing. Temporarily, a printed paper map or online map with the species names would suffice, they could even get creative with interactive website map features so we could learn about the animals while waiting in line (which is inevitable when animals are feeding in cars in front of you or blocking the road).
Overall, we found this to be a great value and look forward to seeing it further developed into the family adventure destination it will become! Maybe someday they'll have a "camp in the park" overnight tents area or something similar - plenty of great event opportunities await for The Preserve! read more
