The County gave me several newspapers to contact for that purpose that included the Press Democrat, a couple of others and The Community Voice. Contacting the PD was problematic for this purpose but quite easy for The Community Voice. A woman answered the phone took the info and credit card emailed whatever else and it was done. I thought it was quick and easy and the charge of $40+ is what was expected. It wasn't Hi-Tech and I couldn't do it on my cell phone but was quite satisfactory. The Sonoma IT, run by unqualified, part-timers Jason Walsh, editor and publisher who commute to…read moretheir jobs only 3 times each week. They mislead readers with their police log columns seemingly about Sonoma Police incidents and news for and about Sonoma denizens. Actually, the entertainment-only stories are false, inaccurate, and designed so you would not even question their legitimacy. The IT is protected from lawsuits arising from libel challenges, and only those public record logs. What you are are actually reading isn't the log and isn't protected by the first amendment. It uses words from the log and then added new material which makes no reference of source or named testimony and aimed at indicating guilt. This is done in the dark, in secret, using handed-down policy which favors one group over another. All facts and kept away from their subscribers and readers . The resulting log, without the byline of the IT staff writer, sources, and any disclaimer of the presumption of innocence. If you, or any person you know, who is private person and was named by the IT in any police blotter or log or police log, the paper is unique vulnerable and could be wholly responsible to you if you have been damaged. The publisher admitted in court that the paper has always interviewed unnamed people for the log and used other sources for those stories. Without the normal use of industry standard of giving the subject their right to deny and explain, Plaintiffs are eligible for special damages, which can be award more than double your claim of damages. In small claims you can sue for up to $10,000, and you are given a better chance at winning than loosing as the Plaintiff (person suing). $50 filing fee, but ask to have that fee waived. That is also your right.

In San Francisco, the North, East and South bays, it is usually channel 22 on the dial. I'm also a fan of Outbeat Radio! Some of the promos for local shows are OK, while others are abysmal. "Ric on the Radio" is fun and engaging. On the other end of the spectrum is "Lady Spins the Blues." The promo is so unappealing that I actually change the station when it comes on. Her words and delivery remind me of an Indiana librarian trying to excite us about a newly-released children's book. Totally not in keeping with the subject matter, and completely uninspiring. The AM spot, "Sonoma Spotlight" is even spottier. The regular host sounds ancient and he does a pretty poor job of interviewing folks. Lastly, the Friday morning Real Discovery/At the Movies Review is unlistenable. It gets a D minus.

The Sonoma County Gazette is a helpful, free, local paper. If you want to know about an array of…read morecommunity events, this is the paper to consult. They often highlight local businesses, post their hours&locations- even reviews and recipes. They discuss local issues from the wildfires, to legal cannabis, homelessness, you name it. It's much thicker&less pretentious than the North Bay Bohemian. There are editorials based on specific communities, highlighting their concerns- Penngrove, Cotati, Sebastopol, Geyserville, Graton, Camp Meeker, Cazadero, Jenner- you name it. You get a sense of Sonoma County's diversity. The Sonoma County focuses primarily on "West County" (essentially, communities west of 101, tho they have Cotati&Penngrove) It's thick, colorful, with personable editorials, comprehensive calendars of local events. The only downside is that it's monthly rather than weekly. A great way to catch up on local events, activities, dining and shopping.

Sure there's ads in here too, but at least there's some substance to it. We always find more things we want to do in 1 issue of the Gazette than we ever do in 4 issues of the noboho. I think that the Gazette is a much better reflection of all the communities in sonoma county than the boho is. Besides the events, we really enjoy the editorials too.
