Went to University Tutoring today for a proctored test. My appointment was at 1 PM and no one…read morearrived until 1:10. I was nervous enough as it was so that unsettled me. During the course of my exam, the person was talking on the phone outside of the room I was in so that I could see and here him. An employee came in with one of his kids and the proceeded to have a conversation while I was taking the exam. I could see and hear everything. Very unprofessional and I will not go there for future proctored exams.

We came to Sylvan with a very specific request to assess skill gaps in Math that we had observed at…read morehome. My son's school only does grade-level adaptive assessments that cover a broad set of skills and so we wanted to get an outside assessment that could be more targeted to the problems we had observed. Sylvan's diagnostic was a little expensive - about $150 - but that's OK to get what we are looking for. They did not complete the assessment as we'd asked. They performed a similar style of adaptive assessment as the school district does, so we got no value from that. I already have access to nearly identical diagnostics from the School district. They also did an English language skills assessment which we had no interest in. We only came here for math. Performing this test did not add value, it just wasted our time. Finally, the process took a week. By comparison, Mathnasium turned it around same day at no cost, and did an excellent job of listening to our needs and targeting the testing to what we were looking for. Overall I feel like I've spent a lot of money for something I didn't ask for, that adds no value to me as a customer. I would have far preferred if Sylvan had let me know up front that they don't offer the services I was looking for. They seem like a wonderful resource for general improvements across the board - but that's not what I asked for.

I freaked out and called aroudn to search for tutor help but not able to find any that I feel firs our needs. Then my coworker told us about Sylvan that her son has been attending. I quickly got connected with Pat who was super sweet and explained to me about Sylvan. The comprehensive test showed that my dtr need helps for reading and writting which also reflected in her school rpt. And my dtr has been attending since July 2022 and her scored has been improve tremendously. She is getting mostly A in her classes. No kids like more homework (maybe some do, but not mine). My method is to have them do their Eye Level homework daily (takes 15~30 min) and I reward them with their choice of free time. My son is so confident in Math and is doing very well in class. After a few short weeks we saw amazing results. Due to the distance between my home and facility I decided to wait it out in the lobby. These people are not ripping families off!!! It takes a village to treat not tutor children who can not read to in fact READ! They have a village of trained professionals involved. There is an educator who works one on one with your child, a person who is constantly watching over your child's progress, a person who has to manage the very complicated schedule, and someone to manage over it all. Nothing is perfect and sometimes things fall through the crack, that is the real world. Not that I am dismissing any frustration to the parent in the prior review. To a parent considering Lindamood Bell, no matter what you decide to do, remember you are going to have to pay someone to train your child to read so ask yourself why are kids learning to read in as little as 10 weeks while at Lindamood Bell? I'm not sure if this is a scam artist place, but 20k is very high for 10 weeks of service. After we did the 10 weeks, they were supposed to provide a summer reading list for my daughter, but the director never sent anything and I followed up and I didn't hear back. Once she realized I wasn't planning to send my kid during the summer, she didn't really care. So I'm wondering if it's just a money making place to try and rip off the people in Bellevue because they know it's a rich area. I'm still making payments. I was desperate to get help for my daughter who was struggling. Sad they are taking advantage of kids who are struggling to make money.

With Huntington's help, my daughter got a 36 on her ACT after working with them for just two…read moremonths. I highly recommend Huntington in Issaquah for test prep. Huntington has a great system where your child takes a practice ACT and SAT with them, and based on the results, they make a study plan for whichever test plays to your child's strengths. I loved the flexibility in their scheduling and the ease of the process. My daughter met with her tutor once or twice a week, and they went over the homework he'd given her. Your child will have homework and will need to do it to improve. Will you be out of town here and there over the summer? No problem. They build the schedule around your availability. Here's my favorite part about Huntington. They let you take lots of practice tests that are actual ACT tests from prior years. (Lots and lots of tests!) Taking a dozen practice tests and going over them with the tutor is what really helped my daughter get that perfect score. Thank you to everyone at Huntington!
