I visited Belk for the first time while visiting family in Alabama. It reminded me of a Kohl's, JC…read morePenney, or Sears. Clothing is its main attraction I felt. I spent about 45 minutes in the store while browsing for clothes. I was smiled at by two employees, but not offered any further assistance. The store was organized and clean, but there was a LOT of inventory which made it a bit difficult to move through the sections. While ringing up my items, two employees held a full out conversation about another employee. The one assisting me did not engage in any type of small talk. While I waited for my family member to get rung up, I observed another employee behind the register trying to hide the fact she was using her cell phone. Because I had flown there, I didn't browse any of the home goods sections. Prices seemed a few dollars higher than what I am used to paying for similar items however there was a good buy one get one sale going on so that helped my budget. I have received quite a few compliments on the clothing that I purchased at Belk so that is a motivator to return next time I visit family. I just won't expect much engagement with the staff.
