This gym has the worst set up with all the squat racks in the basement and everything feels very crowded. Additionally, the parking is terrible. There are never any spots because they only pay for the smallest lot and it's always full. They have made efforts to upgrade machines, but yet still challenging to find dumbbells that match and are under 30# . read more

I just started coming to The Pro's Gym about a month or so ago and am pretty happy with what they have here. BUT, it has quite a few shortcomings that any curious gym goer should know before signing up here. Let's start with what they're great for. This gym is packed with most every type of equipment you could possibly want and some. They have a long rack of dumbells on the first floor, and a short selection on the cardio deck. You'll find just about every variety of Hammer Strength and pin select equipment. And they have about four or so squat racks with barbells. They have an entire line of cardio equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, stairclimbers, and I think I even saw a Jacobs ladder and arm bike. Most of that is on their second floor and just next to that section is a "group fitness" room with a mishmash of equipment. I've used it as a stretching area since it's usually dead there and very little foot traffic. The basement has the two locker rooms, a shared sauna, a posing room, and two power lifting rooms with even more free weight equipment. Now for the drawbacks... This place is dirty! The carpet is worn out. The protective floor covering the dumbbell area is torn in numerous areas and uneven all throughout. It was like someone threw it over top of a bunch of crap rather than fix and clean it up. Be careful! There's one trip hazard after the other. Not to mention, there's entirely too much equipment. I mean am obnoxious amount for such a small space. If you want to use a piece of equipment, you'll probably have to ask to work in around that piece of equipment. It's THAT close! And forget about finding the plates in a nice organized central spot. They're everywhere yet inaccessible. The gym must've thought, "We don't need that side peg for this Hammer Strength equipment." They l it really removed pegs on one side and not the other. While it's nice they have an elevator access for anyone with mobility issues, they're going to be disappointed when they see how gross it is downstairs. I get how power lifting is primal but it doesn't need to be festering with dirt, debris, and overall uncleanliness. The locker rooms are just as bad. The posing room is a nice touch for the hardcover gym goer but don't expect to shoot any photos here because it's...well gross. Again. TL;DR There's a ton of equipment but the place is battle worn and dirty. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But everyone is cool here and the front staff are nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you're looking for a gym and cleanliness and age aren't an issue, Pro's Gym is for you. I just wash my hands before and after every workout. The rest I figure out how to work with what I've got. There's been a sign up about renovations, so I hope to see some improvement soon. Take out about half a dozen or so pieces of equipment and I'll knock that score of to four stars. Till then, it's a firm three stars. read more

I came to this location on a day pass this past weekend and below is a recap of my experience: - The locker rooms and decor is like a Time Capsule, you can feel the energy of hard core training everywhere you go - $16.13 for a day pass is one of the best available prices in this area. I called (2) other gyms and they were $20 - Street Parking and a parking garage are easily available within a short walking distance - The front desk staff was very welcoming and helpful and showed me how to access the locker rooms - Yes, the cardio equipment is limited but they have plenty of available machines for that purpose, there is also a side room on the 2nd floor with open space to come up with your own cardio exercises if absolutely needed - Legit equipment pretty well kept for the most part, I can see it getting very crowded during rush hours but that was not my experience What prevented me from giving this gym 5 starts is the fact that it could use a very thorough cleaning. I get the old school rugged concept but for a gym of this caliber I would expect more. This was a cool experience and will be back if I find myself in the area. read more

This is the only place I train when I'm in Columbus. Anyone who complains about old equipment, the "scary" maze to get to the locker rooms, etc, should just train at a franchise gym. I'm sure there's a Planet Fitness close. This place is for people who are serious and who care more about killing the weights than whether they can get a good selfie for IG. There's energy here. There's great equipment that has been used for decades because... it's great equipment. When I was there for SWIS, the place was packed with big dudes moving a lot of weight. It's definitely not a board-shorts gym. If you need your a** kissed when you walk in, I guess don't train here. If the labyrinth of hallways confuses you and you feel scared, I guess don't train here. If you feel you are going to get cooties because people actually work their butts off here and sweat, I guess don't train here. If you can't afford the parking and downloading an app is too technologically advanced for you (the app is universal if you live in any urban area), I guess don't train here. Thankfully, this place isn't for everyone--only those who want to get huge and train their *ass off. read more

Parking: You will need to download the city parking app to your cell phone and pay daily for a parking spot. Front Desk Staff: Every time I walked in, never once did the staff say hello or check if I was a member, I just walked right past them. They're careless and impersonal. Locker Rooms: The walk to the locker rooms was the worse part of this gym. You have to go down into the scary maze of a basement to find the locker rooms. The basement has many closed doors and dark hallways, easy to get lost. Very UNSAFE for WOMEN and small men. My wife went downstairs to the locker room alone and saw a guy just sitting in a chair in one of the hallways who whistled at her as she had to walk past him to get to the women's locker room. I went down because she was too scared to leave the restroom and walk back upstairs alone. I saw him too, he gave me the stink eye. Gives you the feeling you're about to get mugged. Weight room: Dirty, it was giving mrsa vibes. Old machines, homemade looking dumbbells, and not enough equipment. I left this gym very upset, because every workout is very important when you're a competitor, and I had the worst workout of my life here. It was clear when we left that the name of this gym is deceiving, this is NOT where the Pro's train in Ohio. read more

Everything!! Everyone is so courteous, equipment has that awesome old school iron feel, great sauna, with so many security cameras you feel really safe and just an ideal location in Arena district. You can run local trains and come back to the gym to lift or use the many treadmills and cardio machines during inclement weather or when dark. Great gym with a surprising amount of equipment for its size! There's cardio equipment on an upper level, and down below there are four squat racks, a Smith machine, and a shit load of dumbbells, and a specific area for deadlifts. Seriously, there is a machine for every body part in this gym, and the vast majority of it is Hammer Strength. My only complaint is the dumbbells jump from 130 lbs way up to 145 lbs., which makes it a little hard to progress with chest presses. Other than that, it's a great gym and totally worth the $30 bucks a month. read more

4.4 Stars: Great powerlifting, olympic lifting, and bodybuilding gym. Lots of pluses and only a few downsides. Here's some detail: High points: 1) Lots of equipment: squat racks, lifting platforms, benches, dumbbells, and machines. A few cardio machines, but not an overwhelming amount. One "Concept 2" rower. Stretching areas with a small number of kettlebells and other fun toys like tires. No bumper plates though. 2) Cool people and policies: Super friendly staff, easy check in, and cheap guest passes. No pressure to join. Long hours during the week. 3) Big locker rooms with showers and ample lockers (bring your own lock). Minuses: 1) The temperature was really warm! It had to be almost 80 inside despite being in the 50's outside. Lots of fans but, no real cooling otherwise. 2) Cardio equipment in a bit of dis-repair: half the ellipticals wouldn't change incline, and the rower was out of batteries. All in all, a great place to power lift, olympic lift, or body build in downtown Columbus, if you can overlook the minor flaws. read more

Powerhouse Gym - Columbus, OH I prefer to workout at older gyms with older equipment. There's just something about the older equipment and steel plates that I love. I warn you...you will not find a lot of cardio equipment here. Located upstairs is a few treadmills, stair-monsters, ellipticals, and stationary bikes. Located downstairs is their locker rooms. On the main floor is where you will find all their free-weights, machines, and cables. This gym is hardcore and equipped with enough heavy weights, power racks, and benches to keep any gym goer happy. This gym may be hardcore, but it's still welcoming to anyone at all fitness levels. I'm not a member, but would be if I was local. A day pass cost $10 and it's good for 24 hours. I will definitely be back when I'm in town. Happy Lifting!!! The good: It's a gym. It has weights. And a few cardio machines. The location is cool with tall ceilings and big windows. Only $10 for a day pass, which is great for travelers. Also, I believe if you stay at the Residence Inn, you can use the facility for free or a discount. The bad: It's bro-heaven. It was wall-to-wall guys literally stepping on each other because the facility has too much equipment for the square footage. For instance, if you are using a bench, your feet will probably be hitting the machine in front of you, then people step over your legs to get around. Not a problem if you're warming up with 45#, but if you have 300# dangling above your head, you really don't want people bumping into you. I think I heard every single Eminem song on the speakers at volume 11. Come on people, I'm FROM Michigan and I don't need to hear him that much. The locker rooms/bathrooms are disgusting. If I were a regular, I would not want to use those facilities. I got my workout in, but I felt cramped the entire time, with guys literally ducking and dodging in between me lowering and lifting weights. read more

Gym is going downhill. There are some major problems that need to be fixed to make this a better place to work out.

A good gym that contains a solid variety of equipment- free weights, plate-loaded machines as well as plenty of ellipticals and treadmills. The location is generally decent for those who work downtown and want to workout during the day. Also, parking is available only after 5pm weekdays and all day on weekends. There is not much free space between the equipment as this gym is located within a former bank. I have never frequented the gym when it has been busy so the limited space hasn't been an issue for me. I have found that the staff and the other members have been respectful. Many members seem to push hard and workout with a purpose. (I have been to other well known gyms where most people seem to go through the motions.) The vibe in here is good! The only reason I can't give this a five star rating is because it is not the cleanest facility. read more

Disclaimer - I last went to this gym in summer of 2017, so things may have changed. I no longer live in Columbus but when I did this was my gym for about 3 years. Gyms like this are quickly going extinct. It's a hardcore powerlifting/bodybuilding gym. Was a pretty normal occurrence to see people pulling 5-6 plates on deads, or hitting 4 plate squats for reps. If you're someone who wants to sit on the elliptical while texting for 45 minutes, this isn't the right gym for you. However, I never felt like it was a judging gym, and members are too focused on their own workouts to really notice others. At the same time, the regulars are very friendly, and it was common to trade tips on form/meal prep/ supplements, etc. If you want to compete in bodybuilding or just get in great shape, this is the gym for you. The only drawback was the men's locker rooms were pretty rough. When I first joined they told me they were in process of renovating, when I moved away in 2017 they were still as bad as before. Very dated, and very warm down there in the summers - after showering I would quickly be sweating again due to how hot it got - id guess it was around 85 degrees down there! Make sure you take a look at the locker rooms before joining if you plan on using them with any frequency read more

I had a couple days in Columbus for an interview and so I decided I needed to check out the local gym scene. this was the second gym I went to during my stay, and although I did like the vibe, the squat area, the location... I was not huge fan of the clientele (more roid raging 22 year olds rather than true lifters) and how busy it was for the amount of space. Overall, cool place to visit, if I move here it won't be my every day gym. Wouldn't want my wife working out here, as there are some strange dudes. read more

SEE METRO FITNESS absolutely disgusting cardio machines: water (sweat?) marks on the dashboards, trash and encrusted gunk in the water holders, broken fans/buttons/heart rate monitors. and at any given time, two of the treadmills are out of commission or need to be rewaxed. also, the classes are a joke. (i haven't gone to one of enzo's spinning classes, but i'd like to give it a try when my schedule allows for it.) most are scheduled for day time, at most two/three per day, and are so relaxed and blase that i really question if people are there to work out or to make out. boring as hell, non-existent motivational soundtrack. one last thing: there is absolutely NOTHING good-looking here. the decor is tacky and disgusting. how is carpet even considered to be an acceptable floor covering for gyms? it harbors germs and odors. the red/black + giant gorilla look is just terrible. and worst of all? from other cardio warriors to the iron pumpers to the tvs, this gym beckons the unattractive underclass. read more

Great location. As a frequent traveler it is in close proximity of major downtown hotels. They have a great day rate that welcomes out of town'ers. I really love the environment. I've trained at gyms all of the world and this gym is literally top 3. They have old school equipment mixed with new. It's clean and the people are all friendly. I have seldom had a positive experience at this gym. If you have the time and ability to travel, I would not recommend it. The front desk is frequently unstaffed (I have seen front desk workers working out, changing clothes, socializing, or just nowhere to be found). Ordinarily this is a minor inconvenience. However, today I cut my hand on some gym equipment and needed a bandage from the first aid kit. You guessed it, nowhere to be found. My workout partner waited 5-10 minutes for them to show so I could get a bandage and resume my workout without bleeding all over the equipment. In addition: the cable setup is missing pins (pennies to replace, no excuse). The cable setup upstairs has been broken for more than 2 weeks and today they put a "out of order sign" after clients have been rigging it for use. Given its location and membership, no excuse to be as poorly maintained and staffed as it is. Spare yourself the aggravation, drive 25 minutes to Metro Fitness Worthington , you will not regret it. read more

This gym is literally the worst gym I've ever been to. It is disgusting inside. It smells, it is dirty, the staff is not great at all, particularly the owner.
