The South River is a tributary of the Raritan River. If you head north on the South River it runs into the Raritan River (where the Rutgers crew team rows.) It then runs into the Raritan Bay in Perth Amboy at the Perth Amboy Yacht Club. If you wish, you can then take the Raritan Bay to the Sandy Hook Bay and out into the Atlantic Ocean. The Cannon Brothers Park sits on the shore of the Raritan River. It is on the Causeway, an old road that had a very low bridge that connected Sayreville and South River for generations. The bridge often flooded (I grew up in Sayreville) and was replaced in the 80's with a taller bridge. The Cannon Family lived on this site on the South River in the 1930's and 40's. The Park is dedicated to the memory of the two Cannon brothers, Commander Leo J. Cannon and Major Matthew M. Cannon who were the first two men from South River to graduate from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, the classes of 1953 and 1957. Bwahahaha! Honestly, I like this bridge a lot. The Garden State Parkway did a great job with this bridge. 5 lanes each direction, almost no traffic. Traffic usually flows pretty smoothly! It is tall enough to allow all kinds of ships to pass underneath it without any trouble. This is the standard other bridges should be built to. I travel over bridges frequently, and they are usually horrible thoroughfares! This is not. I really have nothing else to say about it, except it's a great bridge. All in all, it is a nice bridge, designed well, and it serves its purpose appropriately! Trust me this is one of the better bridges you will ever go over. Thank me later lol! This bridge has been around for a very long time, long before I was born!…read moreThis is part of the Garden State Parkway, and it's parallel with the Thomas Edison Bridge that's positioned right next to it (US-9). There are multiple lanes on both sides of the bridge. This bridge has no architecture on the top or sides. What I mean is that there aren't any arches or tower-like structures that you would drive under while crossing major bridges. Everything is completely open as you cross over. But then again, you don't cross a bridge solely for the purpose of looking at the visible architectures, if any. The bridge allows commuters and travelers to cross so they can travel South towards the Jersey Shore, and North towards Paramus and the NY Line. This is one of those bridges in which for one-half you have to drive up a "hill", and then for the other half, you have to drive down. Once I crossed the bridge going North, I got to see the exits for US-9 and the NJ Turnpike. Going South, well, I got to see the toll booth that you had to pay through to move on. Yay? I always enjoyed driving in the night whenever I drove home Northbound on this bridge. This was when I got to see the city lights in the night while driving up to the top of the bridge. Who doesn't like that? Of course I was also able to see the lights from the Outerbridge Crossing. Nice! If you see the city lights in the night, play EuroDance and remixed party music (or whatever your favorite genre is) in your car, and have no major traffic or weather issues, then you've got a pretty good ride. Yeah, my two recent rides were good. Be careful when you're going down the "hill" of this bridge during rainy and icy weather. It can or could be slippery. It sucks when there are traffic jams that stretch throughout and possibly beyond the bridge. Overall, this bridge serves the purpose of letting us crossover to areas where we need to be at.

It was also a dream to get to travel there with my close friends and for them to see Italy for the first time! Our trip was curated so thoughtfully by Anthony. The food, the wine, the places we stayed, and the people we met along the way were all wonderful. From wine tasting in Tuscany, to the private tour of the winery itself, to hiking in Elba, to spontaneously going to the Montefalco festival (we were lucky that we happened to be nearby the weekend of the festival!!)... I experienced a whole new Italy I'd never seen before, new culinary styles, new wine varietals and exquisite scenery. Anthony has a joy and passion for Italy and travel and as his guests, we felt that joy throughout the entire trip. 5-stars for sure :)

He had driven us to each of our destination points safely and had also booked us for local experiences that we would never have otherwise found. Just while searching for beaches in a 30 minute driving radius, we ran into this gem of a park that's so well maintained. They have ample free parking and the walk to the bay is so quick. The bay might not be the best to walk on as sand is relatively less with more gravels and getting down to it from the stairs is little difficult even for well grown adults. This could definitely be wheelchair accessible in a certain way. They also have few picnic enclosures and a memorial to one of their town's fallen soldiers. The walking pavement is neatly laid out for a calm, peaceful and relaxing walk. We went on overcast conditions and had to return to the car just before the rain caught up. Will definitely return here for summers to watch the sunset in this beautiful bay/park.

I enjoyed the pierogies, stuffed cabbage and a few other items while here. I saw many artisans selling handmade and imported wares, from jewelry to clothing. It a short walking area as this occupies the school and its auditorium and the enclosed parking lots. So plenty of parking nearby. Even live music and band along with Ukrainian music and dancing! Definitely a very fun afternoon and evening. Great raffles and 50/50, to try your luck at and the prices were quite extensive everything ranging from mini daytrip's and weekends to high-end luggage, TV's, game systems housewares etc.Just remember to keep an eye out for this festival every year following Father's Day.
