Day two of our road trip to San Diego... stop 1…read more Before we could head out of Fort Wayne, and after we thanked our Fort Wayne hosts Phil and Linda for their wonderful hospitality, we had to stop by the Cap 'n Cork for some microbrew. "Why Corey did you have to stop by for microbrew in Fort Wayne, IN," you ask? Well, on our stay in St. Louis, we promised that we'd bring some Michigan microbrew to our new CS (CoushSurfing) friends as they are avid beer fans and drinkers. A special request we were more than happy to fulfill, except we forgot to get the beer in Michigan... oops! Alas, Indiana also has great microbrew not available to the St. Louis beer aficionado, so that would have to suffice. I was actually referred by Phil and Linda to purchase some growlers at the local brewery/restaurant Mad Anthony, but this was 9:30 am and they weren't set to open until 11am. Plan B was set into motion and we called upon the local booze chain Cap 'n Cork to see if they could help, and by George they could! Just a few miles away, the local Cap 'n Cork, situated in an odd looking 1970s construction German village type strip mall, was open for business and ready to serve. The gentleman manning the store was more than informative and helpful and pointed us to the cooler where we could get a couple six packs of the Mad Anthony and then remarked that they just got a local variety pack in from the Upland Brewing Co. called the "Local Twelver" which is very popular. So we bought both. Duh! A great start to a great day of road tripping! Now, I give this spot 3 stars for the lack of liquor and wine variety, but added a star for the knowledgeable and helpful mate behind the counter. 4 stars for the Cap 'n Cork. Tip: head to their Web site, as they offer a variety of classes and tastings at their locations. If you're around to catch one, they're free so why not!?

This place been here for many years, I believe it was an old Irish pub back in the 60s and it's been converted into the Dug Out! Tons of sports playing on the Tv's up in here, pool tables, really good food for reasonable prices. What's not to love? They serve up a mean plate of beef nachos and give you quite a bit for little coin. They really get you out of a bind when damn near broke and hungry. Real fine place. Fun to go

You will note that Dash 90 is open on Thursday thru Saturday from about 3p to 8p. You can find Dash 90 out in the countryside south of Fort Wayne. You will need your GPS to get you there as they are set in the country. Watch closely for the signs. They are a bit hard to find and follow...but you will get there. Once you find the country lane you will wind back to the complex. Things are pretty simple. You will find a relaxing country setting inside and outside. Be sure to meet the owners Bruce and Twila. These are great people who are passionate about making good wines. They also want you to come out, relax and enjoy yourself. Meeting Bruce and Twila are as much a part of the winery experience as the wines themselves. The inside is large and wide open. Lots of space to sit and take in some entertainment. Plenty of room at the tasting bar to relax and sample the wines. Their tasting policy is five wines. They come in a flight. You are free to mix and match. Bruce and Twila are excellent about exposing the wines, their origin and flavors. Dash 90 has about 20 different wines to choose from. Plenty of sweet and dry choices. We sampled five different dry red wines. We find all wines very likeable. Not too dry. No harsh after tastes. No over the top sweet tastes. Just good...solid wines and tastes. Dash does have other choices. Slushies are a hit. They also have local meats, jams and jerky for sale. Come check out Dash 90. It's worth the drive.
