So far, the experience at the Quarters has been quite good. Yes, mom did have a fall out of her wheelchair as another reviewer has stated, but it's because she was watching TV in her room and forgot that she wasn't ready to get up on her own. The staff as I have experienced them, have all been polite and kind to my mother, and yes, I ask her every time I see her. Yes, she can't wait to go home, and I wouldn't have that any other way. Why four stars and not 5? The food (lunch and dinner) is a bit unimpressive, and I can certainly see how someone there for more than a couple of weeks would consider that an issue. As for our family no two-day period goes by where one of us is not vising her, so we just remember to bring her a little dietarily appropriate treat, and she is good to go. read more

My dad went to rehab there after he broke his hip and it was horrible! None of the aides or nurses wanted to do a thing--LAZY! They did not help him eat or even set him up to eat, did not get him to the chair, did not bathe him, did not even fill his water ever! He has dementia so he was unable to advocate for himself! He came out worse after being there for 4 weeks than he was when he went in! He was making good progress with the therapists at mercy before going to the Quarters! I ended up having to hire someone privately to go on to the facility to do all these things since the staff was so incompetent! Run far way from this place! They don't care about anything but getting their paycheck, and I'm sure it's not that much of one at that. whenever I had to go in to the room, I had to actually sweep the floor myself because there was trash all over the floor. she fell out of bed twice and the staff knew that she had a falling risk. A beautiful building but they sent me home without home care did not bathe me in the 6 weeks there it too mercy south to get a wound vac in place And a home health nurse to come. No wound vac nor home health care called me. Do not let them lie and tell you that they did what the said the done. Stay on them til the do their job! Do not send your love one to this facility! My Father and Uncle were both at QOD. My Uncle almost bled to death there and my father was not taken care of and was transported to the hospital with pneumonia and severe bed sores where he died after a couple of weeks. My Tamily is in the process of suing this facility for negligence and not taking care of them properly. read more

My brother was there November 2022 for approximately 4 weeks. Bad care, only received 1 bath in that time. Supposed to be assisted with meals, never happened, tray just plopped on over the bed table. Clothes not changed for 3 days. Very little staff, even worse on weekends. Discharged when rehab was over, to another facility where he expired less than 2 days later. Never had a care plan meeting to go over his care and did not receive any updates. Do not go there! read more

A 1 IS TO HIGH. THIS PLACE IS THE WOSRT rehab in Missouri. They make you sit in urine for hours. Wait time is usually 2 hours. Very rude employees who have yelled at me and said they don't have to help me. I don't barely drink cause they refused to give me bed pan. Some employees are maskless especially on midnight shift. Employee has just tested positive for covid. I could literally die here. Food is always cold and not real good. Occupational therapy and physical therapy excellant, compassionate and rate A 5. I have to scream from my bed to finally get help. Medicines are not routine and missed many doses. read more

This place continues to go downhill. We have tried desperately to move my family member to no avail. There is no one in charge. You just get the runaround from all directions when an issue comes up. Do they act empathetic? sure. But nothing changes because turnover is so high. I've had to repeat myself so many times to different directors, administrators, and social workers there that it's exhausting. PLEASE, for the sake of your loved ones, listen to me.. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES TO THE QUARTERS AT DES PERES! My Mimaw fell and fractured her spine in multiple locations. She was sent to The Quarters from the hospital to get rehab so she would be able to walk again before going home. After 2 days there, we said we had enough and pulled her out early. From the first day she got there, they had her medicines all messed up. Due to Covid, no visitors were allowed, but my Pipaw called and called until they agreed to meet with him in the office so he could go over her medicines with them so they would finally get them right. The day after my Pipaw went in to discuss her medicines, they brought her 14 F'IN PILLS in the morning - she was supposed to have 7. How do you bring someone DOUBLE the amount of pills they are supposed to be taking and not notice? She also was not able to walk at all so she needed assistance getting to and from the restroom. She would push her call button and no one would call. At one point she had her call button on for over 2 hours before anyone came. My grandma is also considered high risk for Covid due to an autoimmune disease (though anyone there is pretty much high risk).. the nurses would often come in with no mask on and she would say "can you please wear your mask in my room" and they would just reply "it's at the front desk". Seriously blows my mind how these humans want to work in a nursing home yet treat the people there so horribly. My Mimaw did love her rehab/therapy nurse and one or two other nurses during her stay - but for the most part, they're all horrible and should honestly be fired immediately. How you let a woman lay in her bed having to pee for over two hours is something I will never understand. I would not send a loved one to The Quarters if it was the last nursing home on Earth, and I hope all of you make the same decision for your loved ones. read more

My mother was sent to The Quarters for 2 weeks after being hospitalized for physical Therapy. During her 2 weeks she received 5 sessions of Physical Therapy. She had to walk herself to the desk and beg for 2 of those sessions. We walked her ourself when we visited so she would be strong enough to return home -- since she wasn't getting therapy there. They don't give therapy on the weekends either. So wasted days then. They are short staffed in therapy departmen as well as the cooks that prepared the food. I would not recommend it. The only reason we went there is that the others were full. After 2 weeks I could see why they had openings. The only reason I gave it 1 star is because the room was a private room. we should've called the State Health department to report to Medicare the terrible care that Medicare was paying for. read more

They are not fully informed of their positions more less how to perform them.(Just some insight the physician never did baseline labs on my father who was there for a month! If you are a vegetarian do not go here. Dried up cheese burgers. Ham and other meats. You never get a decent meal. They never try to get you something else. My broken bones may not heal from lack of nutrition. The aides are so mean if you complain. They are a lazy bunch. To be fair two aides have been helpful out of about 20. The bed is a creaking antique that that got caught up in the old antique serving tray and crunched it. Lumpy Thin Matress pokes my body. As for decor, the floor is rustic, the entry Table is painted silver from China. Night Stand has plastic drawers with inlaid mirrors, also from China.. This is not Elegent, but Gaudy and Cheap. All in all a horrible place. I would leave, but my insurance would not pay the $15,000. Per Month, then I would have to. It's all about the money. Do not send your family member here. Mine was there for a month and it was a nightmare. There is no communication. The Medicare head was extremely rude. The social worker was of little help. My relative rarely got help eating even though I posted a large sign in her room. She lost 25 pounds there and her catheter bag was bloody. I asked if she needed to go to the ER and physician Assistant and head nurse said no just a bladder infection. Finally I demanded something be done and 911 was called. The EMT told me I did not need their authorization to call them. I did not know that. She had a kidney infection and was in hospital for 2 weeks. I told social worker at hospital she is not going back to The Quarters and had an elder placement specialist to help me. Since then I have talked to many people in the nursing home care and all have said it had a bad reputation. A doctor also said it has been bad for 2 years. I did not know when the social worker at Mercy hospital said she would be going to the Quarters that I had a choice. You do have a choice. I have many pictures of the catheter bag, food and drink all over the floor. Another relative who is a rehab nurse was appalled at the conditions and care. Three of us took photos to document. It also took 4 months to get a refund since she had paid for the entire month and was only there 10 days. I was waiting for the refund to clear at the bank before posting reviews. When you look up the Quarters at De Peres you see 3-4 stars-no way this Yelp site tells the truth. Please tell others if they are looking for a nursing home to review the Yelp site. My dad has literally been in there for over a month. I understand that they are understaffed and that people typically write bad reviews so I'm going to do a mix of both. When you walk in it has a beautiful entrance and the front desk staff is absolutely amazing. They help you understand the protocol of Covid and really make an attempt to get to know you. Once your family member is moved to the floor it seems to be fine. My dad was on the first floor on Juliet and the care was decent. I felt comfortable leaving him while he slept overnight. He then got moved to the second floor and everything got absolutely worse... this is no joke. The other day I literally walked in because he told me he was in his wheelchair for 6 hours and had a few accidents and was sitting in it for at least an hour and a half and I had to get Karen on them. Of course that action worked because they fixed the issue exactly 10 minutes later. I just can't wait for my dad to come home. read more

I was easily able to schedule with my dear friend, to see her in person for the first time in over a year. The staff were very helpful and cordial, and at the end of our visit the staff member who came to return my friend to her room was very knowledgeable about my friend's habits--i.e., she usually naps after breakfast, which is why she was so groggy at 10am. My 81-year-old grandfather was so mistreated and neglected at The Quarters during his five-week stay that we had to send him to the emergency room, and he died 10 days later. Whatever you do, do not send your loved ones here! We saw The Quarters had some pretty good online reviews, and the rooms looked nice at first. So when my grandfather needed a skilled nursing facility in early May of 2019, we decided to give The Quarters a try. But it quickly became clear that the facility was horribly understaffed and negligent. Problems included: - Lack of cleanliness (dust and garbage left strewn about my grandfather's room; mildew in his breathing machine's humidifier) - Old, ragged wheelchairs and other equipment - Utter negligence (failure to change vomit-soaked clothes; failure to respond to loud cries for help at night; four different occasions on which staff errors caused my grandfather to fall to the floor, dramatically worsening his health) - Failure to care one bit about my grandfather's inability to eat on his own after his worst fall (note that my grandfather had diabetes, but the staff expected him to wheel himself to the dining area and feed himself even when he couldn't do so; one day, when my mother came to see him for lunch, his blood sugar was 48!) - Insistence that my grandfather did not need hospitalization when, in fact, he was losing all energy and appetite and his blood pressure and oxygen levels were dangerously low - Lack of professionalism (gossiping, rude, and condescending staff who claimed my grandfather was making up his symptoms for sympathy) My mother, who visited my grandfather for hours every day, raised all of these issues with staff members at The Quarters, including the Director of Nursing; the R.N., Debbie; the social worker, Kelly; and the facility's executive director, Lou. None took any meaningful action. In fact, near my grandfather's death, my mother begged the staff to take a closer look at his condition, but a nurse smirked at her and told her she could take him to the emergency room if she wanted. Finally, my mother took my grandfather to see his lung doctor. The doctor noticed the low blood pressure and oxygen levels and immediately sent my grandfather to the emergency room. He was diagnosed with pneumonia; he stayed in the hospital in agony for about a week, after which he came home on hospice and died within 10 days of leaving The Quarters. Please read the one- and two-star reviews on Yelp and Google before you even think about sending a family member here. You will see that even though some people report positive experiences, my grandfather was not the only patient who caught pneumonia at The Quarters and died after staff ignored family's pleas for attention. My grandfather was not the only patient who was neglected and under-fed despite having diabetes. This facility is horrifically understaffed and they do not take patients' concerns seriously. The more you complain, the more they dismiss you. The so-called care here is tantamount to elder abuse. Send your loved ones elsewhere. read more

I wish I would have paid attention to the poor reviews. We placed my mother in the facility for rehab and she became ill 7 days into her stay. Blood work was not run to evaluate the cause of her illness in spite of repeated requests to do so. On the 11th day of her stay we had her transported to a hospital for care but it was too late. She had pneumonia and died 3 days later. The nurses must rely on the part-time doctor to order tests and there is no oversight when the doctor is not responding to requests or evaluating a patient's illness. read more

I used to work there. With the exception of Kevin, I was pretty much treated like dirt by the other employees. Such pettiness - I took a 15 minute break to fix a chipped fingernail and instead the ED took me to task. Sarfara.....rude. The two "sales people" who would visit hospitals and scout for potential patients....condescending and arrogant. Some of the CNA I loved - so personable and ready to help. The LPN's and nurses - absolutely the best. So patient. Food was good and the kitchen was clean. Would I ever go back? 10 root canals would be better than working there. read more

Well I will tell you placing my young mom 70 years of age in a nursing home was a horrifying decision. We started in rahab which was great & then transitioned to skilled nursing home. We were drawn to the Quarters because of cleanliness & staff. We were sooooo lucky we landed there. My mom just passed away and with exception to 1 nurse all and I mean all of the staff was absolutely amazing and supportive as we trudged through the hardest days of our loves. Kind words, proactive actions, love, support...they really really care! I am shocked to say I would not have had my mom's last days with anyone else. The nursing home gave more to us then our own family & friends during our sad difficult time. Mom had a very nice room we were allowed to decorate & a very sweet room mate. The staff was responsive and always aimed to support mom & us. They don't have an easy job as many residence have minimal family and the staff is everything to them. The staff makes the Quarters and we are forever grateful for their amazing care & love! read more

I feel comfortable when I go home, knowing that my mother is in safe hands. Absolutely the BEST from the time you walk in the doors. My father is a resident at The Quarters and I'm satisfied with the care he is receiving. He has Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Dad also experienced the loss of his wife while at The Quarters and the staff has been kind and compassionate while taking good care of Dad's needs. The atmosphere is cheerful with bright, tasteful decor, plus his room and bathroom is kept clean. The residents can dine in the Dining Room or have a tray brought to their rooms. The food is nutritious with three meals served daily and the residents can have snacks. Placing a loved one in a nursing home is a difficult decision to make, but knowing they are receiving good care makes it much easier for the family. read more

So why are they bringing in people from other states and parts of town who are extremely disrespectful, totally medically uneducated who order these frail sick people around just because they have power over them? And the stealing... you'll pay for the care and in addition replace all your loved one's belongings. The people from bad areas or other states who don't steal cover for the ones who do. A little extra money spent on good people would save everything in the long run. Anyone who rates this highly never was dependant on care from these people. How insensitive to hire people to care for your mother who tell her, "Get back to your room. (You must be kidding... no one talks to anyone like that in this part of town..) When I'm finished (in an hour) I'll get to you." Send these people back to where they live. They don't belong out here, caring for my mother. We stayed in rehab at 5 other facilities before long term care. This was the only one with a stealing problem. They're also skimping on the food budget , to save money? That's a problem everywhere, making money by taking food out of your dependant one's mouth. This whole idea of for-profit nursing homes, for the last days of your mother's/father's life, companies applying a business model kind of makes me sick. The staff will sit and look at you when you ask them for help they will not get up and move from their chair to assist you with your loved one. It doesn't matter that it is late and your family member needs to go to bed and rest I mean this is only a rehab place what do you expect, really care? Well you will get none of that here! Yesterday a patient broke a glass of water and the nurses and aids would not help this poor elderly women. They handed another women 2 towels (mind you this was not her family member) for her to help this women. The women did her best to help the patient and clean the broken glass and the pond of water off of this poor elderly women. The women that brought this to the nurses attention did not want to complain to much because she had to leave before her mom went to bed and she didn't want the staff to take it out on her mother! So she helped the elderly women! This place should be shut down and the owners put in jail they are taking our tax dollars and under staffing the place with horrible people who have no care for any thing! Awful! Just want to agree with every review I have read (after the fact.) The building is beautiful and a great cover up for a place that (in my opinion) should be shut down. Do NOT take your loved one there. Especially on the weekend. The staff to patient ratio is unconsionable, the "so called MD" calls in to find out about the patient but does not see him, we never saw an RN, and if your loved one is too sick to care for himself I would venture to say that he/she is not safe there. We were there for 48 hours, had to fight hard to get out of there, and when my father went to another facility we found out what real nursing care and compassion was all about. read more

Looks are deceiving: "The Quarters at Des Peres" is bright and pretty and the food is good but I would advise any one with serious medical conditions to choose a different rehab facility. It's hard to find first hand information about patient experience at any physical rehab or nursing home facility--why is this? More people should write reviews that could relieve suffering and potentially save lives. I hope this is what my THUMBS DOWN review of the Quarter in Des Peres will do. My father went to the quarters from Barnes Hospital with some pretty serious medical problems, which we were told they could handle. They couldn't, and the nurses and assistants seemed to resent the level of care my dad needed and made him pay the price in bad attitude and dehumanizing treatment. After a good first week my dad started sliding due to an undiagnosed infection from the surgery which the nursing staff responded to by giving Tylenol for his fever symptoms. Over the next 2 weeks he gradually became severally dehydrated resulting in dementia like symptoms and plummeting cognitive functioning. This condition also went undiagnosed as simply dehydration and for almost a week he was given daily cognitive tests, which he failed, because his brain was starving for water and glucose. I believe my dad's "spirit" also became starved at The Quarters from the dehumanizing treatment by drone like CNA's and nurses many of whom don't look patients in the eye, are generally gruff and are so distracted by dictating their treatment notes into the recording devices they wear strapped to their heads that they don't even pause to ask someone "how they are doing?". Not a large man to begin with, my father lost a total of 18 lbs. in the 3.5 weeks he was under the "care" of the Quarters. Finally we took my dad to the ER, the admitting ER doctor took one look at him and said, "he's dehydrated--dry as a bone!" After 5 days in the hospital with IV fluids and antibiotics he began recovering his mind, body and spirit. We then chose a different physical rehab facility, Barnes Extended Care--the level of medical care was night and day as well as the level of empathy and attention by the nurses and assistants. Most families go into these situations blind and they don't know how to choose or how to compare. Now that I have had these 2 experiences in 2 different facilities I see there is a VAST difference in medical care and outcomes. These newer corporate facilities such as "The Quarters" that are in the business of grabbing Medicare $ attract patients by the "look and feel" of the place on first glance by hopeful family members. What I can say is that Barnes Extended Care is worn, the patient rooms are small, and the food just so-so but it is medically totally superior and the personality of the place is compassionate. Don't be deceived by looks! And don't be afraid to yank your loved one from a facility if you don't see them thriving. And don't be afraid to write reviews about what you experience to help others! read more

We recently checked my mother into the Quarters after a fall. The staff and facility are wonderful. The rooms are as non hospital like as possible considering that they must contain hospital beds. My mom's room had a lovely quilt and comfortable stylish chairs and it overlooked a wooded area. The staff were caring of my mom and very caring to our family. I selected them based on a recommendation from a friend and am very happy that I did. read more

TERRIBLE!!! The service of nurses is very disappointing. I appreciate the CNAs but I feel sorry for them because the nurses expect for them to do everything. Great Customer service is vital to the success of an operation and this place lacks every bit of any such thing. Cheryl is the most disrespectful nurse I've ever seen in the history of both of my grandparents being in a nursing home. I've even tried to kill the situation with kindness and speak regardless but it did not suffice. Charolette puts on an act for certain people as if she cares. Another nurse (don't know her name) spends majority of her time at the nurses desk. None of the nurses are on one accord. They don't keep track of doctor's orders after returning from doctor appoints. They have no problem saying "I don't know" prior to administering proper of improper medication. Staff does not greet family members. They move when they feel like it. Room help lights will be on for hours while nurses sit at nurse stations talking and laughing. They will give medication to residents just to keep them continent and to not be a distraction in their shift. I would not recommend this place for my worst enemy. This is a terrible place. My mother was there when it was good, about three years ago and then I had to move her out for fear she would die unnoticed. It was sold to a company that had lawsuits against them for medicare fraud in other states. More important, they neglect the residents as they are UNDERSTAFFED! The smell of urine was always there. If your loved one was not able to voice what was going on, then they would be the victim of not being fed properly and sitting in urine clothing. A dear friend went there for rehab and they did not come by daily unless she called or a family member was there to make a fuss. Because my mother was not able to vocalize about how poor her care was, I witnessed how they would bring her to rehab and she would sit there the entire time until I walked in - the administration is worthless and at the mercy of the terrible company that owns The Quarters. The doctors send their nurse practitioner to check on the patients. My mother had health issues and medicare would not cover anyone but her doctor. However, my mother would be billed all the time for services NOT performed by the doctor. Plus, the medical staff just rushes through all of their patients and they select terrible doctors. I could go on and on - these type of businesses (and that is all it is to the owners is a money making business ) have to be stopped. read more
