We had high hopes for this stop on our cross country road trip but it definitely fell short of expectations. We had a dog so when we booked the only room available, which was the Governor's Suite. The room was lovely and large with an ensuite bathroom but they didn't mention it was on the 3rd floor. We also didn't know it was 5 flights of stairs to the room. So, if you have a pet you have 5 flights of stairs to go outside. Also, we arrived around 3pm but no-one was there to greet us. Yes, we had instructions but it seemed impersonal. We left later to sightsee, still no-one there. We came back, we went to dinner, still no-one. Lastly, when we headed out to dinner it was dark, the lights along the stairs shone straight up into our face and we couldn't see the stairs at all, we warned each other to be careful. I had to shade my eyes and slowly reach my foot out to feel each stair, but my partner missed one and went sprawling down the stairs and hurt both knees. We did have a good night's sleep and saw a person at breakfast but all in all it felt more like a VRBO than a B&B. They did offer to pay if we needed medical attention, which was kind, but I think fixing the lighting is probably crucial, or be forewarned. Also, we left at 9am so we didn't have breakfast. The B&B didn't appear to be occupied by anyone other than one other couple, so I would have appreciated a little more attention for the price.

This bed and breakfast was an excellent place to stay. We enjoyed a night in Anne's room. Got to enjoy the town of Belafonte and a quick visit to Penn State for ice cream. Amazing breakfast in the morning of homemade waffles with fresh strawberries, homemade whip cream and a hint of cinnamon. I recommend coming and checking out this amazing house.

    Bathtub experience

So in love with this place! I always wanted to stay in a bed and breakfast and took advantage this weekend since my graduation was down the road at Penn State(20 min). Our flight got in late so we arrived late for check in but Nancy made it so welcoming even without her there. My husband and I stayed in Anne's room and wow so beautiful it's a must stay. The bathtub was a dream it was so relaxing and conveniently placed. The whole house is just a dream and breakfast and staff was so amazing. Couldn't have asked for a better experience, just wish I could have stayed longer. If you are debating which b&b to stay in this is it !!

This is the living room looks nothing like the keychain

We thought we were staying here at The Queen, yet Nancy had us in a house on Lamb Street called The Virginia. Looking on the internet of what we thought we were getting and what we got. Shame on them! They used the old bait and switch on us. The door was open and the keys to the house were on the left in a basket. The picture on the keychain once again looked nothing like the living room and on the other side of keychain said The Queen Bed & Breakfast. Walking around the house it had three bedrooms, two toilets one downstairs and the one upstairs had a shower tub bath, dinning room, living room and kitchen. Good things were the towels and four rolls of toilet paper, and one roll of paper towels. It was okay because we could make our own meals together. I said okay, because the toilet broke on the last day and they did come and leave the toilet plunger on the front porch. Yet called twice and left voice messages and still Nancy did not call us back.

The room, Carriage House Suite #2(?) was huge and beautifully arranged, with beautiful furniture and all the amenities of home. You can tell that real thought and care went into every detail at the Mansion B&B and the Carriage House suites. As a bonus, the entire mansion was decorated beautifully for Christmas, which made it even more magical. What really made our visit exceptional was the warm hospitality from Jessica and her family. A team who run the property. Shortly after we settled in, they have a Happy Hour and also offered small bites and homemade treats. We were also lucky enough to get a tour of the other rooms in the mansion that weren't yet occupied - each one is uniquely themed, and we're looking forward to our return visit to experience Jessica's superb service and offerings! These thoughtful touches portray the level of care and hospitality that sets the Reynolds Mansion apart. The Reynolds Mansion perfectly balances historic charm with comfort and exceptional personal service. We highly recommend this gem in Bellefonte and can't wait to come back! Our daughter graduates from PSU end of the year, I hope to reserve the entire facility for our family n friends who travel to the graduation.

Phil and Kathy happily gave me a short tour of their lovely building after exchanging pleasantries, and I fell asleep shortly after in the Sierra room. The accommodations were spacious, the water was warm with good pressure, and the bed was quite cozy. It may have been from the long day, but that was genuinely one of the best night sleeps I'd had in a while. I was the only guest that night and the breakfast service felt like a royal treatment! It was a two course meal starting with a beautiful parfait followed by eggs, sausage, and pancakes. There was another option available, but unfortunately it escapes me at the moment. I spent some time afterwards prepping for the next leg of my drive, and Phil and Kathy were both there to see me off. Before I left Bellefonte I took a few hours to walk around, which I recommend. It is a picturesque little town. I had lunch at Pizza Mia, which Phil and Kathy had recommended, admired the architecture, and stopped in for a chat with the guide at the train-station-turned-tourist-information-building. If you're looking for a good place to rest for one night (or several) I would highly recommend this spot!

Our experience proved extraordinary. Selecting a few bottles of wine from a nearby store, we enjoyed nightly toasts in glasses that Kathy and Phil keep in an antique cabinet in the great room. We feasted on hearty three-course breakfasts every morning, allowing us to replace lunch with ice cream--the Creamery on the PSU campus and Meadows Frozen Custard off Benner Pike are musts. One afternoon as we were tooling around town, we received an email from Phil and Kathy informing us of a free concert that evening at Talleyrand Park. Thus, after sampling delicious supper fare at The Governors' Pub, Mike and I walked across the street, cuddled on a bench, and listened to the Coal Aly Band cover favorite hits as locals danced in the grass and rang a cowbell to "Don't Fear the Reaper." Laughter and positive vibes abound by Spring Creek! When they realized that my husband was waking before most guests to read quietly in one of the home's common areas, Kathy and Phil set up an automatic coffee maker outside the kitchen to be ready in the early hours. They actively inquired as to how they could make our stay more comfortable. A flip-top glass bottle of cold water specific to our room remained filled outside our door as did a selection of sparkling drinks. Learning that we had lived much of our married life in the Deep South, they even chose to include cheese grits as part of the menu on the day of our departure. Keenly attentive, Kathy and Phil delight in honoring all who visit. They exude warmth, and their peaceful demeanors diffuse goodwill. Vacations do not always generate rest, but my husband and I have returned feeling rejuvenated. We are already discussing our next trip to Centre County. Thank you, Bellefonte B&B!

My husband and I chose Harmony Forge Inn & Barn as our out of state wedding venue for 2 reasons…read more 1.) It doubled as a place to stay for my immediate family who were all travelling from Austin, Texas and 2.) Our ceremony and reception would only be steps away from each other! (easier for guests). The Inn: The mansion is a beautiful 4 bedroom, 4 full bathroom, 1 half bathroom estate complete with parlor, dining room, kitchen (2 refrigerators), and beautiful photogenic staircase. I paid for the full weekend package, which includes all 4 bedrooms and entire house from Friday 8am until Sunday at noon. I also paid for the rehearsal dinner to be held in their dining room area, but once I arrived, the décor in the dining room was too drab for my taste and I ended up setting up in the barn. I would have set up the rehearsal dinner outside, but it unfortunately rained on Friday and Saturday. Some of the old décor is beautiful, but the window treatments and table cloths were just not to my taste and I could not be photographed next to them. However, the wood accents were to die for (staircase)and the house structure was very lovely. The Barn: Perfectly spacious and easy to make glamorous with the right décor. We used globe lights and hung them from the ceiling and it really provided an upscale vibe. I used all real china and glassware, added a few DIY touches like paper flowers, newspaper programs and tall lighted branch centerpieces to execute the look I was going for- rustic glam-it was relatively easy to accomplish. The space can be used for up to 160 guests per the management, but I wonder how crowded that would be. We had a good use of space with 110 guests, but I don't think I would have liked any more people in that size space. (Especially since it rained on my wedding day and we had to set up a temporary ceremony in the dj space in the barn, there definitely would not have been room if we had had any more people. The Cons: 1.) I was very stressed on Friday setting up the barn for the reception. It was hard to get a hold of management for setting up additional tables/chairs. And they forgot a table I requested for the rehearsal dinner I needed for gifts. 2.) Management seemed disorganized. They told me they might rent out the additional room on Saturday night, which I paid for in my full wedding package, until my dad called and they said that was a mistake on their part. They also forgot I had paid for the rehearsal space and I had to remind them. The chairs and tables (they set up) were squished up near the front of the barn and I had to move all the tables back for more room which was time consuming (they set up tables according to your specifications, but it was not like the picture I drew) 3.)The fridges are full of old food which is good or bad depending on who you are, but I would have preferred it empty since how do you know how old that stuff is in there? 4.) THE AC UNITS!!! OMG. They are so loud and the house was SOOOOOO hot. 5.) The barn port-a-potty(ies); I'm not sure we had more than one in operation, I specifically remembered 2 when I visited and it was much larger with 2 stalls, then on my wedding day I only remember seeing one and it was small. I would rate this venue a 3-4/5 based on my experience there, I expected more hospitality. At the end of the day, I felt like we were not super welcome there, more of a nuisance to them. No one really talked to us, or asked us how we were doing during an obviously stressful weekend where all of my plans were literally drowning with the rain. I just expected a little more kindness or at least one conversation with the people who lived there. If you like to be left completely alone, then I'm sure this won't bother you.

So when a family member approached me and asked me if I wanted to stay at this inn, I was surprised; but, after learning more, I excitedly said yes. This was the right decision and led to a fantastic and relaxing weekend away from the city. This nature inn sits in Bald Eagle State Park and has 16 guest rooms, a handful of meeting room/library spaces, and is absolutely beautiful. The rooms on one side of the inn overlook a lake, with the other side facing a cluster of trees. My relative and I ended up facing the trees, but we were totally fine with that - especially since the fall foliage was starting to set in. We were on the 2nd floor, so we were able to enjoy the view from a private balcony throughout the weekend; it looked like the 1st floor rooms had little patios instead, so no matter what, guest rooms have some sort of outdoor seating. Normally, guests would all be able to enjoy a communal patio and fire pit here. Granted, some other guests (as it appeared that a large group came here together) did go ahead and enjoy this space. My relative and I did not because avoiding people is a must these days, but still, what we saw of these spaces looked great. Definitely something to remember for the future. Speaking of avoiding people - it's 2020, so naturally, my relative and I were focused on what the inn is doing to protect guests. The answer is, plenty! Cleaning and sanitizing the inn is a big thing, naturally. The small size of the inn definitely helps, as it's not particularly big and doesn't lend itself to the gathering of huge crowds. Masks are a must and for the most part, this rule was adhered to; I passed by a couple of guests that I think just forgot theirs momentarily, but staff definitely took the rule seriously. Their dining room is currently closed - all meals are prepped and offered as take-out or delivery. Fortunately, the rooms include a fridge, so it was super easy for my relative and me to bring snacks and store our leftovers so that we were stocked and well-fed all weekend. Also, while you can request items that you need for your room, daily turn-down service is not happening right now - that way, only guests are in their rooms during their stay. The result was that I felt extremely relaxed while I was in the inn, knowing that my space and health was being respected and taken seriously. A couple of notes - the mattresses here were admittedly very hard and uncomfortable, and while they didn't ruin our stay, it's still nice to have my comfy soft bed back. I don't really hold this against the inn though since, frankly, I think all hotel beds are uncomfortable by default. Speaking of things I don't hold against them - this is a nature inn, so you better expect some of the local wildlife to try to get into your room. When I first opened my balcony door some stinkbugs fell onto me because they had gathered around the door frame - whoops! The good news is that the door itself was very well sealed, so the little jerks couldn't get in when the door was closed. Again, I don't hold that against the inn at all, seeing as it's set right in a state park. Still, I think it's fair to remind other guests and readers that when you visit a nature park, you better be ready to experience everything nature throws at you. If any of this sounded like something you would enjoy, I encourage you to visit the inn's website to learn more about staying here; there is a lot of information there about a range of other topics, such as how the entire facility is designed to be ecologically sound, what to expect when you visit during different seasons, and what sorts of outdoor fun awaits you in the surrounding nature park. I definitely recommend this beautiful inn as a getaway option - now and in the future; and I hope to be back one day to enjoy more of the surrounding area!
