Cute restaurant not far from State College, PA. Warm and inviting space-we were lucky enough to be seated by the fireplace. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and the staff went out of their way to help my elderly mother be comfortable! The waitress was amazing and gave suggestions when I could not decide what to order. The food was outstanding and I do not think we could have gone wrong with anything we ordered. Had dinner last night to celebrate with my friends. And had a rude waitress. Drinks took a very long time. Dinner took even longer. 3 dinners arrived in great condition. And the last dinner plate was stone cold. Plus the server forgot a beer order. Had to complain the food was cold and that I'd ordered a beer. When my beer arrived it was flat - I thought nitro meant bubbles. And when the server brought the new dinner she dropped it on that table with a clank. For the prices they charge the food service should be much better. Am a very long time customer. Really thinking twice about coming back to the Inn after our celebratory dinner was taken down a notch. read more

Very awesome spot located off PA Route 26. Though the mailing address is Howard PA it is really in the very small town of Hublersburg. My companion and I stopped in during our return trip from State College to Lock Haven. We'd visited before, but I'm guessing that was before I was Yelp-active. We sat at the bar and the entire establishment quickly filled. The food is clearly a big draw and with good reason. We snacked on fried cheese curds which delicious and paired with a dipping sauce that had just the right amount of zip. The draft list is about 18 selections but a good mix of standard domestics and local craft beers from some of the smaller producers. Service at the bar from lively Bette and team was absolutely first rate. Even as the place got steadily very busy, from what we observed the front of the house was working hard but with smiles, humor, and great attitudes. Dare I say it...they seemed to be enjoying their jobs and definitely contributed to a great positive vibe. You can't go wrong with the Hublersburg Inn. We didn't have a reservation but were lucky enough to get seated immediately. There were specials along with the traditional menu. We ordered the French onion soup from the special menu and it was good. For entrees we ordered the cheesesteak and hubie burger and both were served with house homemade potato chips. You can upgrade to fries but we decided to stick with the homemade chips and I'm glad we did. There was a barbecue/ paprika type seasoning on it and was very good. My burger had fried onions, lettuce and tomato to accompany it. For dessert, I chose a blood orange creme brûlée and it was delicious. The building has an interesting history and pre-covid was also an Inn. Now, the guest rooms serve as private dining areas. There is an outdoor patio used for seating but closed now in winter. I look forward to some drinks and food under the outdoor lights in the summer. read more

2 in our party got food poisoning... one of us were charged for cocktail sauce the other was not. My husbands steak was supposed to come with black garlic butter an did not when ask it was brought out and we were charged $1.00 for it Other people in our party had side salads one was charged $3.50 AND THE OTHER WAS CHARGED $6.50. This place was fabulous. Set in a picturesque small town in an old house with TV by creaky wooden floors, the fall stage was definitely set. I'm sure there were other excellent menu items but I came here for the Hublersburg Inn Salad - my first venture with fries on a salad. This is a totally foreign concept to me and I must say I was not disappointed. Well until I ran out of fries which could have been a meal themselves they were so good. The service was prompt, and the staff on top of requests even though it was packed for Mother's Day. The place is a converted home and was rustic, separate rooms for parties upstairs. Made reservations so everything went smoothly. Food was great, presented well, but I would recommend they cut the spinach leaves at least once. Excellent cheese on the platter, great assortment. Fruits fresh, meat cooked as requested. Nice quality crab. 5 star review if they can remain consistent on the second visit!!! Second trip to go the pizza on the patio. We came to enjoy brunch but unfortunately they only do it on Sundays, but we decided to stay and order food still. We got there Saturday right when they opened. What we ordered they didn't have which was disappointing. Our drinks were good. I got a mule and my partner an elderflower drink. Our kid ordered Mac and cheese, which was clearly kraft Mac and cheese. That only took 10 mins to come out. It took our waiter another 20 mins to ask my partner and I what we wanted for an entree. We sat there for about 45-60 mins waiting for a burger and a wrap... our water was empty for that whole time too. When we were ready to leave it took another 30 mins to get a box and the bill. We spent about 2 hours here and were overall not impressed. The service was just too slow and the food was average. The inn itself was beautiful and had a cute setting. The chalk boards and flowers everywhere were a nice touch. The only issue we had was the bar was messy and covered with empty bottles and needed to be cleaned. The host stand to the side had trash all over it, some of the inside was in need of minor repairs. read more

We went for a special holiday dinner because we read that the atmosphere was nice and the food was good. We were taking my husband's former boss who is now 92. The atmosphere was festive for Christmas but i was disappointed that the tables did not have any tablecloths or even placemats but were just bare. So not special for Christmas. Then my husband and I ordered from the holiday menu. He ordered the filet and it was so tough and we never had a filet so bad before. I had the lamb chops and they were irradiated and thin and tiny, dried out and tough with no flavor. The seasonal vegetable was too many carrots and there were no green vegetables. The fingerling potatoes were nothing like the description- they were a flatbed of fried potatoes under the carrots and almost invisible. Fir the price of $42 per entree, it was so bad that i cant imagine how the place was as crowded as it was. Maybe we ordered the wrong items for this restaurant. Our guest thought he had ordered brisket but it was a stew with very little meat. When they served it to him, there was no spoon and we had to wait a long time to get a spoon so we all sat there waiting for awhile. Finally my husband went to try to get a spoon but was told they would bring one but it was still a few more minutes. We were embarrassed to have taken him for that dinner. And sad that we spent over $160 for such terrible food. read more

Had a large party here for a PSU graduation, what a disappointment. The food was OK - nothing to write home about. The service on the other hand was terrible. Our reservation was large and they placed us at two tables - one of 12 and one of 7. We were expected to be treated a one party - however they treated us as two separate tables - not related. The small table was seated when the larger table group arrived (about 4 to 5 minutes later). As we were being seated the first table had drinks on the table and appetizers ordered. We ordered drinks and I spoke to the waiter about the two table were to be treated as one. I should have talked into the wind as they continued to treat us separately. As we were being served drinks the smaller table was being served the main course. A person came around and asked how we were doing but before you could say anything she was gone. It is obvious that this supposedly dining establishment does know the first thing about service - especially when it comes to large groups. To make matters worse the tack on a 22% gratuity, adding insult too injury. This was my first and it will be the last time I frequent this so called restaurant. Seriously deceptive pricing - avoid! Pretty inn in a pleasant village, acceptable food. Here is the problem: the menu price bears little relationship to the actual charge on the check. You turn up to order, and specify you have never been there before, and therefore don't know the ropes. The server takes your order for an entree, and asks what sides you want, without pointing out that the sides are charged separately, and steeply - how to turn a $32 order for two into a $42 check. I am used to this kind of trick in cheap and nasty tourist resorts, but am surprised to find it in rural PA. I won't be going back myself, but do be very careful here. read more
