And honestly? It was glorious chaos while it lasted. History check: MouseGear opened in 1999, replacing Centorium (which was EPCOT's original mega-store since 1982). Where Centorium had the vibe of "futuristic department store," MouseGear leaned into "what if we crammed every Disney product ever made under one roof and threw some gears on the walls to make it look steampunk?" Walking into MouseGear felt like you'd entered the Costco of Disney merch. Mickey ears, spirit jerseys, pins, kitchenware, toys, Dooney & Bourke bags -- if it had a Disney logo, it was here. The place was huge, loud, and perpetually packed, like a holiday rush that never ended. And yet, it was also... magical. Because who doesn't want to impulse-buy a Figment mug at 9:00 a.m. after riding Spaceship Earth? I muttered something like, "It's consumerism run wild. But damn, they know how to sell it." They have toys that look like race cars that are styled to the right vehicle that you get in on test track and they even sell freeze-dried ice cream because that's what astronauts eat, and that's the type of item you should be eating while you're waiting in line for mission space. Mission space is an amazing ride as well! The cast members here are insanely nice and over-the-top helpful and will go out of their way to get any item that you may be looking for. If they don't have it here and they will even order it to send to your hotel room if you are staying on Disney property.

This store is really quite large, bigger than most of the stores I visited in the Disney World parks. Toward the back is a ton of candy and Japanese sweets. I bought lots of fun treats to share with friends and family, including the sakura KitKat that's hard to find outside Japan, I think. The staff were very friendly. They wrote my daughter's name on something we bought--perhaps the fan--in Hiragana. There's also a Kidcot stop right outside this shop (near the candy section), so you may want to check to see if that's still the case to give the kiddos something fun to do.

However, as someone who loves Disney, this is not unique to Disneyana as the items simply hold their value over time with so many fans and collectors, especially in the Central FL area. That being said, this store is perfect if you'd like to spend an hour or two browsing for second hand treasures. Prices can range dramatically from $10 for a necklace to $1000 for a rare painting or furniture item from a resort. But to me, that is part of the fun! I was glad to see that Recycling the Magic was able to migrate over to this physical location when the Lakeland Antique Mall relocated. If anything, it makes more sense for it to be located near Orlando.

Lots of one of a kind artifacts and pieces which are really cool to look at. Pricing is quite steep. If you are going in for some fun vi take or one offs you will pay for it-this is not the place to find a bargain. I went in hoping to find some cool art that has a flavor of Disney without being in your face about it and really liked the chest of blueprints (in the back left corner of the shop) but they were all $60+ for some that were nondescript. Anything that had a real whiff of anything Disney were far more expensive. I also hoped to find a cast member badge with my name on it as I was not allowed to keep mine. No luck (they are $25 each) not I'll go back to try to keep searching for that. Lots of cool stuff just be prepared to pay estate sale prices. I almost bought a vintage embroidered MGM denim jacket ($250) not the size was way too big to justify. Most of the jackets were men's and quite large in size (most large-xxl). The women's options were largely newer and smaller sizes. I also want to note that as I was combing through the various wracks of clothing there was often a strong oder. Be it BO or mildew, it seems they do not wash the garments before putting them on the floor (which makes sense-can't blame them for that) but that also means that people are donated soiled garments. So PSA: if you donate clothing (anywhere not just here) please wash those garments first. This is just common sense and basic decency. At the end I I planned to buy two pairs of ears ($14.99 each) and a popcorn bucket ($39) bit had to take a work call before I could purchase. I left my items at the till and took my call in the car. I went back in and they were swamped-like I couldn't see the till over the people in the space so I felt a little over stimulated and left empty handed. Stopped in on a Wednesday morning thinking it wouldn't be busy on a week day in the am. I was wrong lol. It was quite congested which made it kind of difficult to browse because I feeling as though I was in someone way or pathway. A staff member was speaking with someone and I could overhear her saying it was a "slow morning" so I can't imagine what a weekend or a high traffic time is like in here. All in all it is kind of a gem even if you're just there to sip on a coffee and browse. You need time and patience to comb through e surging and you'll probably find some gems but be ready to pay for said gems. This is not a Bergen thrift store.

But also because they removed a key item from my childhood to build this (Mickey & Minnie's houses) which kind of broke my heart. It's a souvenir shop. A lot of dumbo merch obviously but so much more. It has quite a large footprint. If you are looking for something sold on Main Street and they do not have it, you may find it here so I would ask a cast member of they have seen that item. It's closet to a character meet up and the dumbo rides. A great (and popular) location to wait out any rain as there are outlets scattered throughout the store (though CM's will not want you to use them) they also have food-most confectionery so candy apples, rice crispy treats, cake pops etc plus ready made food. This is the only location on property that sells my favorite cookie of all time -the peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. It's not themed in anyway but it's big soft but not too soft and just decedent. Trust me and try it if you like peanut butter. Lest time we were there we kissed out on it because apparently the store now closed at 3pm. Which upset me quite a bit as I lost out on my favorite cookie bit when I worked there it was open all day so I often was there closing until 2am.
