Initially, we tried a pre-made ribbon skirt kit. Later, we chose from the plethora of Indigenous sourced designs as well as all of the necessary finishing aspects (such as ribbon, thread, elastic band, and bias tape). The staff has been patient and understanding when answering our questions. We plan to return again for our next skirts.

However, when I think of hobbies, I think of model building, beer making, coin collecting, stamp collecting, remote controlled cars and airplanes, games. Generally, those are not the things you're going to find at Hobby Lobby. Instead, you're going to find a lot of home decor. It's not all that different in some ways from a store like Pier One. It has wall art and furniture and fake flowers and knick knacks and decor. That's not what I expect from a hobby store. You'll also find fabric, and craft supplies, and frames and the kinds of things that you would find at Crafts Direct or Michael's. I like the huge selection. There's a lot here you can look at. On this visit we were treated well by the employees. The female employee who helped my son and I in the fabric department was as nice as nice can be. She made eye contact and chatted with us. She was friendly. She apologized when it took a bit longer. Two big thumbs up for her. My children have said that on previous visits they've found some of the employees to be not so friendly. I also found the prices to be generally lower than I would find elsewhere, so that was positive. If you're looking for craft supplies, fabric, home decor, floral decor, or framing, definitely check out Hobby Lobby. We'll definitely be back.

Unfortunately, the work environment was extremely uncomfortable and discouraging, particularly for new employees. What I found disappointing was that for a company that places such a strong emphasis on Christianity and Christian values, I expected to see those values reflected in the way employees treated one another. If kindness, compassion, patience, and treating others with respect are important Christian principles, then why were those qualities so difficult to find in the workplace? The training I received was also extremely poor and caused a huge misunderstanding from the beginning. The head register employees Marcie and Jade seemed to think I already knew how to operate the register, even though I was new and had not been properly trained. When I asked questions it truly felt like I was bothering them. New employees should be able to ask questions without being made to feel bad for not knowing something they were never taught. Then, the employees, including some of the managers, Amanda and Danny, were often rude, short, dismissive, and unwelcoming toward newer workers. I also witnessed and experienced what felt like bullying and unnecessary conflict directed toward new employees. I know I was not the only person who struggled with this environment. I felt that I was being blamed for problems that came from the overall hostile and unfriendly atmosphere around me. I was just trying to adjust to a new workplace but instead of feeling supported, I felt singled out just as other new employees had been. On top of everything, I had been working there for almost a month and had still not received a single paycheck, which only added to my frustration and disappointment. Overall, my experience with Waite Park Hobby Lobby was extremely negative, and I would not recommend it as a workplace to anyone based on the way I was treated and the way the workplace was managed.

The ambience of the brick walls and all the quilt samples they have showing allow me to dream about what I could do (but never seem to get around to it!) The owner and her staff have always been extremely helpful even with my smallest project. They have never treated me like I'm clueless even when I am! Definitely a must stop kind of place if you're feeling creative.
