I've recently picked up a new punch needling hobby which means I've been coming to this Jo-Ann's…read moremore regularly for supplies because it is significantly closer to my house than the Ypsi location. So I'm giving it a star boost because I'm grateful that it's there for the small things I need and I don't want them to ever, ever leave. Haha! That said, it's still a smaller store so the stock is more limited. But they do have a really good selection of embroidery floss and yarn, which is primarily what I'm looking for with this new hobby. They also have a ton of monkscloth in stock (the fabric you use for your projects) as well as transfer paper and the like. So, so far so good! And the staff here is really friendly and helpful. More than once I've rushed in right before close and they're still cheerful and ready to assist. The bad news is that they don't seem to restock so quickly. A few weeks ago I cleaned them out of the 5 weight antique blue rounds of embroidery floss and when I went back to buy more they were still out and I had to order more online for pick up at the other store. To paraphrase the Facts of Life theme song, "you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have...this Jo-Ann's."

It's very easy to miss (I saw it on my way out!). The check out and cutting table both had plexiglass, employees were wearing masks, and they cleaned the checkout counter in between each customer.

I've first moved to Mason in 1975 and have just finally made my way into this great fabric shop…read more Jeanean's shop has been a staple of downtown Mason for decades! Sadly, it was the Corona virus and my need for fabric to make masks ( to donate ) which finally introduced me to this sweet lady and her successful shop. The place is wall to wall with quality quilting grade fabrics and associated trims and products. She is so helpful and energetic. The ladies shopping seemed very engaged and interactive with her and finding lots in her store as well. I found everything I needed for sure. Lots and lots of beautiful fabric. Highly recommend this hometown favorite.

Nice fabrics, patterns & books, The store samples give you great ideas in case you didn't arrive with any of your own. There were some hexagonal table runner & candle mat sets hanging on one wall. (See my photos.) Fabric from Moda and other high-quality manufacturers. Fat quarter bundles are made up and ready to grab for projects. They come with free quilt patterns put together by the store. The really special thing about this store is all the ribbon and trim. There are hair bows already made up and for sale, or you can buy some of the ribbons and make your own. Bring your little girl here and she'll pick out something beautiful to tie back her hair. Be sure to see my photos, and check out the little snap purses made from the Offray ombre ribbon roses. Precious!

However, the lady from Florida was most pleasant. the fabric selection was grand, prices reasonably set and the store layout was great. I may try the quilt square a month club next year as I progress in skill but I definitely will not deal with the two older ladies again.

Lots of patterns for quilts, bags, and all those notions and things that you did know that you needed. Recently I just attended a vintage sewing machine repair class, limited the number of students, social distanced and everyone was masked for the entirety of the class. I felt very safe. Also, the store is on the second floor. There is an elevator. During this COVID time, there are numbers on the first floor door to grab as they are only letting people in with a number. When the numbers are not hanging, you have to wait for a customer to return their number, then you can grab it and come it. It's a really nice system.

I'm ashamed to say that up until recently, I hadn't shopped for fabric anywhere but Joanns. But…read morefinally, enough was enough, and as I commit to sewing more and delving into the world of quilting, I decided to source all my fabric from places other than Joanns, opting instead to explore the small fabric stores in my area, and what a great decision that was! I was able to discover so many new favorites, 2nd Street Quilt Shop being one of them, and source so many gorgeous, fresh & new designs I had never seen before! It has truly renewed my interest in sewing, and I'm truly excited to embark on this new quest in quilting! Fabric Affair appears to be a newer business, as their store sign also has "now open" directly underneath it! I can't tell you how many times I have driven down Livernois not realizing that this was here. The building is very unassuming from the road, just a black & grey square of a building, but if you love sewing and quilting and are in need of any sewing-related items, whether it be fabric, thread, or something else, I highly encourage you to stop by! The interior space of this place completely blew me away and was completely not what I expected from seeing the outside. You can definitely tell it's nice & new. The floors and entire space is so well organized! The fabric is sorted by color and by themes, if any. It's just a Type A, organized, sewing-lover's paradise! They also do classes here too it seems! I was mainly here for fabric though, so I got down to business searching through all their rows and rows of fabric. Everything being color coordinated, mainly in one spot, really helped me out though, as I was going for a specific part of the color palette. I was able to efficiently shop through this space, and the employees were so helpful, stopping by to see if I needed any assistance and grabbing me a fabric cart without me even asking for one. I love when they anticipate needs, and can I just say this fabric cart is ADORABLE?! I had never used one before, and it just makes the shopping experience all that more fun! I love Fabric Affair! I found so many new & unique fabrics here that I can't wait to incorporate into future sewing and quilting projects! All the workers were so friendly, and it was just the best experience all in all here. I can't wait to come back soon! :)
