We were really struggling to find a great restaurant in the Richlands area, and Railway Depot turned out to be an absolute gem. We've now come back multiple times because it's been that good every single visit. The food has been outstanding across the board. The blackened catfish is packed with flavor, the blackened salmon is excellent, and the chicken fried steak is absolutely amazing -- classic comfort food done right. Honestly, we haven't had a single thing we didn't enjoy. Beyond the food, the people there are extraordinarily nice. The staff is welcoming and genuinely seems to work hard to create an environment that's enjoyable for everyone who walks in. It has a great diner-like atmosphere that just feels comfortable and relaxed -- the kind of place where you want to sit, enjoy a good meal, and come back again. I would honestly ignore the poor reviews because they just don't match our experience at all. Every time we've been there the food has been excellent, the service has been friendly, and the overall experience has been great. This is the cutest restaurant. My husband and I loved our food. The service was awesome. The food came quickly. I had chicken livers the first time and salmon Pattie's the next time. They make the tastiest baked beans. Stop by and eat the best down home cooking. Our server was Reba and she was very patient. She explained everything to me. The food was terrible. I had chicken that was too salty to eat. Mac&Cheese was the worse I've ever had. And like another review stated the mash potatoes were tasteless. They also refused to exchange my food because they had a sign saying excessive waste would be charged!!!!!! It was not my intention to waste food what I got was just not eatable. I should not have to pay twice because the food was bad. Also had fried chicken that was ice cold in the center. The only saving grace was the service. Bad service, decent food, too pricy for portion sizes. Me and 3 others got there and found a table. Not very busy at all so we were expecting pretty good service. (I wouldn't leave a bad review if understaffed and busy. Your servers can't help that and need to be given grace sometimes). Menus were on the table and we were deciding what to order. Waitress seemed nice and took our drink and appetizer orders. She seemed new because she was slow taking orders but that's okay. It was going to 2 separate checks. Me and one other person at the table had not yet decided what we wanted for our main meal so she took the other 2 orders that knew what they wanted and said she'd give us a minute to decide. Perfect. After probably 20 minutes of us sitting there waiting on appetizers, and multiple attempts of her Ignoring our attempts to flag her down, we finally were able to let her know we were ready to order the rest of our food. she acts like she's confused and yells to another worker "she wants to order more food!" I believe she said this to make it look like to the other worker that she hadn't messed up after already putting our tickets in to the kitchen, when she was the one who I guess forgot that 2 people, on two separate checks, hadn't got to order their food. Appetizers came out after 30 minutes and were good. the main meals Came out after over 45 minutes after ordering. portions were very small and obviously came from a frozen package for the price we paid. Slow service. Meh food. Most-Likely understaffed. Overall ambiance of the place was just kinda weird. Could be much better if they had more workers and better pacing. I also noticed a worker put her hand in the salad bar, like the lettuce, without a glove on which would be deemed unsanitary. Definitely needs improvement, but workers were nice just slow. read more

After hearing from other people about how good this place is, I decided to try it out. In summary, it was kind of disappointing. My entree of chicken tenders tasted great but the sides weren't that good. The fried potatoes did not taste like they were fried or done all the way and had a dog foodish kind of taste. The french fries were ok but weren't fried long enough to be crispy. I will wait until the restaurant gets more experience with their food before I decide to return. read more
