Opening statement: The views of this course are worth 3 stars, alone. I met my eldest son at Westfield U. to drive him home, but we were going to take advantage of a BEAUTIFUL fall day by playing the Ranch, first. Our day started soon after we parked and two of the staff met us at my truck to offer to drive us up to the clubhouse. So nice and a great idea to keep golfers on schedule! They couldn't have been more friendly. We were quite early, as we wanted to warm up, but first we had lunch outside on the patio. Good food and friendly service, oh, and did I mention the view? After lunch, we met my sons roommates and played. The starter was very nice, as well as the counter staff, when paying. The course was in very fine condition, with very few leaves obscuring the fairways. The greens were in great shape, as well, despite the amount of play - just a well cared for course! The play was at good speed and we hardly had to wait at all, at any hole. We finished having had a GREAT day and I couldn't conjure a bad thing to reflect on. I HIGHLY recommend playing here. So I was lucky enough to be a part if my friends wedding party and had a full day experience here to talk to you about. Lets start with the venue. Perfect size for 100 guests at a wedding. Only thing I would have liked to see was a bigger dance floor but it worked for how many people actually danced. The barn had a great vibe to it and the way everything was decorated made it memorable for the bride. As I was walking around doing my groomsman thing I pointed out some areas to the staff that needed attention. Staff was super helpful all night! I pointed out that the windows on the door needed cleaning because there were tons of kids handprints from the night before on it, cleaned 5 minutes later. The walkway had pebbles from the landscape on it which I asked if it could get swept, they were right on it. I picked up the cigarette butts on the ground though to help out. The food. Buffet style, great decision! Stuffed chicken, delicious! Steak, dry and un-seasoned. Mac and cheese, mmmmmm. Salad, leafy with few vegetables. Sweet and Idaho potatoes, seasoned to perfection. Desert, caramelized bananas with vanilla ice cream, couldn't get enough!! If you are planning on getting married check this place out on your venues to tour. As for the club restaurant/bar, we had our wedding party rehearsal the day before and we then had lunch. They served us pretty much the same meal as we had during the wedding. The steak was much, much better and probably because there was five times less cooked at once. Overall cool place. I'm excited I was able to make some positive memories here. read more

I agree with the other low ratings I have been reading. I have been bringing my group (16 players) there once a year for a few years and we usually had a great experience. But now with a new head golf pro (Nick), they are changing the rules and attempting to charge us not only more , but payment up front as well. I can understand that if we were 64 players and running an outing - but just 16 guys who all pay individually. We also eat and drink afterwards, but The Ranch now is fine with us taking our business elsewhere - so we shall. The course is good, but not worth the higher price and poor customer service. We miss Jared and the old staff. Heading to other destination courses (The Ledges, Crumpin Fox, Lake of Isles, etc) that will appreciate our repeat business, give us a small deal (even just including the driving range which The Ranch wasn't willing to do) and in return we'd rave and post on social media as well about the great time we had. Expensive for a golf course with a marginal layout. Would be reasonable at $40. It's expensive at $75. I found the staff to be inattentive--it just doesn't feel like a player's course. The girl at the register in the pro shop was a local who I doubt has ever swung a golf club. She insisted my tee time was 10 minutes sooner than the tee time I had confirmed when I called to book the round. And the manager of the place was standing nearby when I forked over $150 for two of us and didn't say "thanks for coming"' or "have a great round." She just kept chatting with another employee after giving me a disdainful look. By the way, the driving range is an additional five dollars per person. As for the clubhouse, the food was disgusting. Very low quality, and the cole slaw I was served was days old. I took one bite and stopped. Otherwise I might have had GI trouble. I will likely never return to the Ranch. Not worth the money. read more

Well-maintained, challenging course with some beautiful views. Good layout with fast greens that roll true. I would strongly advise against playing here, though, if you're a group of average players (80s-low 90s) looking to have a fun outing. We had a bad opening hole (which was cart-path-only to make matters worse), so the group behind us ended up having a short wait on #3 and #4. The ranger politely asked us to pick it up a bit, so we did. The next hole, he was already back on us, despite no one waiting behind us, and the group ahead of us within eyesight on the next hole. We played at a good clip for the rest of the round, and with three holes left, were on pace to finish 30 min behind the club's preferred round of 4 hr 15 min - admittedly a tad slow but not terrible for a difficult, wood-lined course for a group of 10-12 handicappers - when a guy from the pro shop met us on the 15th green to inform us of this violation of standards and ask if we'd seen the messages on our cart screen to let groups play through. The thing is: no one had been waiting on us since hole four, so the request (1) didn't make any sense and (2) doing so unnecessarily would've collectively slowed play down even more with groups on every hole. Plus his little visit delayed us another five minutes. The take-home point is that we paid $91 (range balls not included) to treat ourselves to a nice fall round at a course the four of us have wanted to play for a long time - and ended up running to our golf balls throughout the round. That's not enjoyable. And even though our hustle kept the groups behind us from waiting, it still didn't spare us the lecture on 15. Mid-October golf brings early sunsets and frost delays. I wonder if The Ranch would allow golfers a more pleasurable round if they sacrificed a few tee time slots ($) at the end of the day to account for these seasonal constraints, instead of rushing people with their in-cart warnings and personnel to jam in as many groups as possible. Maybe, maybe not. Maybe it's just one of those courses you don't play unless you're a scratch golfer with somewhere to be. read more

I've golfed once in about 20 years. It was here last month. This place is amazing. Great views. Luscious greenery. The staff were awesome. This is a beautiful, challenging course. The fairways are impeccable and the rough is thick. It's hard to stay out of the rough with all the sloped fairways. There are also many blind shots so you have to go ahead and look to see if the players are out of the way before hitting. As a woman golfer I appreciated the forward tees being in such great shape. At many courses the forward tees are small, sloped and not as well maintained as the back tees. My husband and I decided to play the Ranch on a weekday as a birthday present for me. It cost $65 a piece after noon. Our tee time was 12:24. We finished at 5:50. It was the longest round of golf we played all year. There were a few foursomes ahead of us that were the slowest players ever. It really took away from our enjoyment. I'm not sure we would play there again. They need a ranger!! read more

Much-hyped golf course that is sensational to look at. Play? Unwalkable. A few blind shots. And you had better be a fine player, one capable of beating it out of U. S. Open rough onto speedy and sloped greens. This is a setup seen all too frequently by upscale clubs, and it's unfortunate to see in what could be one of the finest public courses in New England. I played at the Ranch mid April and was impressed with the facilities. They had just opened for the season so the practice facilities were not yet open and there was no bag check or beverage cart. That is probably why it only cost me $50 to play as opposed to the normal $110. However the course itself was in excellent condition especially after an extremely harsh New England winter. As i said before, the course was in excellent condition. I can't imagine how much better it could be when it is warmer outside. I thought the course itself was suitable for players of many levels. The fairways are wide and trees aren't as prevalent as other courses I have played (either that or I was hitting it straighter then normal even though my score didn't dictate that). Water hazards come into play on multiple holes and bunkers to challenge you on almost every hole. They have 4 sets of tees and while playing from the Whites I felt very comfortable with the distances. So much so that I feel up for the challenge of moving back a set the next time I play there. One of the greatest things at the Ranch is the carts equipped with GPS. Not only do they provide you with all the yardages you need, including EXACT pin placement and distances to hazards, they also indicate the location of the carts of the group in front of you. This was so cool when we noticed it and also so useful as it tells us when it was safe to hit our next shots. I wish this feature was available everywhere. All in all, I loved playing at the Ranch despite my poor play. The restaurant was average but the golf was excellent. I've been wanting to play there forever but could never get up the nerve to pay $110 so I was glad I could take advantage of their opening rates. I wouldn't hesitate to play there again even at the full summer rate. read more

Solid first impressions. Electric carts available with pace of play loaded on overhead tablets. Carts are GPS enabled -- warnings issued for diverting from cart path, hole updates, etc. Course becomes significantly more tree-lined at hole 3 accompanied by increased presence of flying pests. Starting markers include black, white and yellow. Cart paths along the first 9 holes are in need of TLC. Hole 8 was a boggy mess on 5/26/19 -- the entire fairway shifted like a raft on a body of water. Rolling hills of hole 9 are spectacular and makes tee-off a real pleasure. Overall, all the greens are quite large and well-maintained. The lengths of the fairways can be deceivingly wide as there is a lot of tall grass, brush and thicket. Hole 1 and 10 are relatively flat and expansive. Coordinator on the phone was friendly and polite. Able to get a 5PM tee time the day of.Would have appreciated a note to delay tee time if the group preceding our start time is four large with a youngster. We ended up skipping ahead upon realizing that we had only completed 1.5 holes in an hour! read more

I'd give this course 5 stars if the bunkers where a bit better. Great rolling hills and challenging greens. Some awesome views and great elevation changes. Challenging yet forgiving Great staff. Excellent food option and decent pro shop. read more

Played on August 26th. Despite the dry summer course was in great shape. Greens were in good shape - I wish more people would repair their ball marks. Looks like they aerated a few weeks ago but no impact on our play. A GREAT deal at $70. read more

The Ranch opened in great shape this year! While many clubs in the area had trouble recovering from the harsh winter The Ranch is in great shape and the greens are almost in mid season condition. The course is challenging, but with a great layout - really nice views and fairways better than the greens at a lot of courses. New staff in 2015 have been great and restaurant much improved. Played this course at the start of the season and it was in very good condition. The course has some really nice views. The staff was friendly but the green fees might be a little high for the area. I paid $60 on a Thursday. In any event, I would play this challenging course for sure and highly recommend It. Both a low and high handicap would find this to be a fun course. read more

This is a very unique review. I have never played this course and I will never play this course. It started with reading the reviews on various websites. The websites were all saying the same thing, that the courses greens were in trouble with three of them in total failure and 8 to 10 more close behind. People were complaining because the Ranch was not forth coming with this information when the people made their tee times. I tend to believe only half of what reviews state so I called the course to try and find out information first hand. The recording to get you to the pro shop is borderline rude. When the pro shop answered that person said in a pretty negative tone "The Ranch" not "Thank you for calling The Ranch Golf Course this is "Name" speaking how can I help you" I ask if they were having bad day, the person responded no, just the persons tone through the conversation was so negative. I sat on this for a few days and it still bothered me so I wrote a letter to the Head Pro, and to this day I have no response. So if you want to be talked down to like they are doing you a favor to play a course that is not up to par then hand them your money. Personally when I fork out $100 bucks to play golf I would at least like to be treated with a little bit of kindness and respect. I will never go to this course, there are plenty there that treat you with good to great customer service. read more
