The Range is like the Apple store for firearms. I've never seen a firearm distributor with such a professional and futuristic-style display of their products. It's all very top notch. They are all assorted on the walls in sections, and every firearm has a digital display behind it that lists all the specs for that particular model, the price of course, and how many are in stock. This truly is the future of gun sales! And the shooting range itself is just as squared away. Very professional, top of the line amenities, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. I'll admit I've never actually been to this range as I shoot mostly at a friends ranch. I will say I find it quite strange and disappointing that in the week after two mass shootings (El Paso and Dayton) that every flag along I-35 (that could) was flying at half mast except this shooting range. There were no obstructions to hinder the flags from flying at half mast. Hard to believe it is an oversight and not a subtle message, but hey, this is America and I believe the whole point of the flag is that you can do what you want with it. Personally, I find it offensive. While I do visit certain ranges every so often, I'll probably avoid The Range. read more

Went on a Friday night to check things out. Extremely nice facilities, staff was courteous, got right in and things went really smoothly. The only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars would be the price of ammo...it was a bit pricey. I get ammo is in scarce supply these days but they may want to think about making that a way to get people in. Not asking them for deep discounts but average price would allow it to be a bit more reasonable. read more

This is not the place to sight in a rifle! The 100yd rifle range is a joke. The platform in the stall is about 24 inches wide, so you cannot get a solid rest. The staff was friendly, except for the moonlighting sheriff that was the "greeter"...he's a dick. The range is definitely for pistol shooters. Leave the long guns at home. read more

If it were possible to give 0 stars, I would have. My husband and I came on a Saturday afternoon to shoot and shot a 9mm and a 22. The 22 had a silencer on it but when I asked the employee to remove it, he did without question and we enjoyed ourselves so much that we came back the next day to shoot again. Apparently the rules change with the staff because the same gun, the 22 that we had the silencer removed from the day prior, today we were told they would not remove it and it was the smallest caliber gun they had for rent. I'm 5'2, I'm not able to shoot the higher caliber guns because the kickback is too strong for me to handle. With the silencer on, the barrel of the gun was so long that it was difficult for me to even hold the gun straight. The second shot that I shot, the expelled shell hit me directly in the face. The ballistics wall had the shells bouncing straight back onto us, because the silencer made the pistol so long. Not only will I never return to this establishment, but I recommend anyone who is looking to rent and shoot a small caliber pistol, go to another range- unless of course you're looking to use an uncomfortable and unbalanced gun that smacks you in the face with hot casings. If that's the case, this is the place for you! read more

A few guys at the gun range are really rude. They have some 18 yr old kicker working there, who gave me grief for borrowing a pen to mark my target. He says " aww man, we are running low on pens" Really? How does one mark his target? This business cant afford pens? Or was he just being a dick? After they charged me an my buddy 54 bux to split a friggin rifle lane. By the way, the rifle range is always not working except for 1, and if you like at them funny because of that they get pissed. I mean the attitude is thick with these guys and I dont appreciate petty BS for a pen. Im 50 years old and honestly I felt disrespected and ripped off.. to top it off. He gave me a "complimentary" target which was about 1 ft x 1ft. You use to be able to pick, and get more than one. I was sighting in , 45 back up sites, which is a little trickier, especially if you cant hit the little target to reference. So, i didnt accomplish why I was there, and got rubbed the wrong way while doing so. Im done with that place. Ammo is too expensive, then getting ripped off at the range and disrespected for their bs rifle range not working. Like its our fault we want to use it. FFS. Im going back to REd's. read more

TLDR: Customer service has declined and some staff members resemble gun fanatics versus safety coaches and weapons experts. Started going to this range nearly 2 years ago when I moved to Austin. The facility is very clean and modern. Have purchased a couple of guns from them and been satisfied with other equipment and accessory purchases. The staff is a mixed bag from how I have been treated as a customer. Recently, I rented a Galil rifle to try it out before deciding on whether to purchase one. The folks at the rental counter were helpful and informative about the rifle and showed me the details of how to shoot it. They indicated not to shoot it from the hip if I chose to fold the stock in while shooting...fair enough. The range safety officer re-iterated the warning about shooting from the hip this way: "...don't shoot it from the hip. If you do, I'll throw your ass out." Nice...great way to keep down anxiety on the range. I shared the experience with the manager and they dealt with the guy immediately. Even more recently, I went to shoot (regular on the weekends) my new Galil (yep, the rental sold me) and was booked on the rifle range with another shooter who was sighting in their .308...one of the loudest models of a .308 I've ever heard. When I walked into the lanes, the two shooters in other lanes were leaving indicating it was too loud to stay because of the .308. I left after a couple minutes without unpacking my gun because it was too loud to stay in the rifle range. (Note: the shooter of the .308 was certainly not at fault) I went to the counter and asked for another lane and was told there was a 2.5 hour wait. I asked for a refund of the lane fee and indicated I would come back later or the next day. The supervisor (Jimmy) replied: "...I'm not giving you a refund because you cannot handle shooting around a loud gun. I'm not refunding your money because of a bad experience...this is a gun range." I left. I visit 2-3 times per month purchasing ammo, accessories, and guns from The Range. The customer service has declined since I first started coming and I'm tired of dealing with some staff members who seem to hate the fact they are at work...it should be a pleasant experience and the last few trips have not been. The experience seems to have shifted from staff members who wanted to coach and help you to a "police state" of arrogant gun fanatics. I don't mind spending the money when the service is in line with the cost...focus on the customer experience, folks. That's what keeps your doors open. read more

For me, it's the little things about The Range that make it my favorite range to shoot at. Where to begin?! One of the smallest but coolest parts of shooting here is that you feel like you are in a video game because of all the badass guns on the wall. It makes you feel like you are in a video game on the weapon select screen. If you have never shot here and there is a wait on your shooting lane, go check them all out! Whether you are a new or seasoned shooter you will appreciate the display and variety. If you don't own a firearm but are considering purchasing, it's never a bad idea to test-fire the one(s) you are looking at buying. No matter how much research you do on a firearm you will never know exactly what it is like to shoot it until you do. At The Range, you can shoot almost any firearm you might be considering for purchase. The rates are fair AND test-firing a firearm before you buy it is always a good idea for first-time owners because it could save you hundreds of dollars! All you have to do is check-in and ask to rent the firearm. A range officer will walk the firearm out to your lane and also return it for you when you are done. It's super easy and convenient! Saftey for any shooter, regardless of their experience level, should always be important. Some shooting ranges make you question if anyone even works there based on the visibility of range officers but not at The Range at Austin. You should never get too comfortable at a shooting range because that's how accidents happen but here you will definitely worry less about safety because there are always range officers present and keeping an eye on all shooters. A small but big pet peeve of mine is when there are no dedicated rifle lanes at a range. Here you can shoot pistols and rifles on their 25 yard lanes but you can only shoot rifles on their 100 yard lanes which is nice when you are trying to concentrate on something like zeroing a new scope. Now, my absolute favorite part about The Range at Austin is how family friendly it is, this is a big deal! A lot of ranges don't accommodate families which can be a big set back for people in positions similar to mine. My wife had been interested in shooting with me for a couple of years but the range I would go to before didn't offer a way for her to spectate away from the actual shooting. That made her uncomfortable and scared her away from going which prevented her from seeing what shooting was really like. After my first visit, I knew I had to get her to check it out. Sure enough, after she saw the layout of the range she felt comfortable about going and taking our kids. Now we have a family membership! We go on the weekends, my wife and I shoot our pistols while our children sit behind the glass and watch us (side note, if your children can not sit and behave unattended, please do not take them because this isn't a daycare). When my wife and I are done shooting we take our boys over to the rifle range and they shoot their 17HMR. The experience is always awesome. The cost of our family membership here is less than one big family dinner at Chilis and the skills we are developing here could one day save our lives. I have shot at all of the ranges in the greater Austin area from Lockhart to Marble Falls and The Range at Austin has been the best experience by far! I highly encourage everyone to check this place out. I promise you will not be disappointed. read more

So we were in town for a bachelor party and supposed to go tubing but there was lightning all day so we decided to go to the range instead. We walked in and were greeted and told the gentleman about our previously thwarted plans and he said they were a understaffed but would get us on a lane if probably 20-30 minutes. We were shown over to the registration area and told to register and he would be back to get us and we would get signed in. We walked around and looked at the impressive displays of firearms. After about 40 minutes we figured something was up and grabbed somebody. They took us back over to the sign in area and they told us it would be over an hour to get on a lane. We decided to leave and were annoyed that we had wasted our time. On our way out the gentleman saw us leaving (obviously too early). He ran out to the car to see what had gone wrong and after hearing our story said he wouldn't let our backup plan fail like our original plan and he would get us on a lane now and cover most of the fees. It is a clean nice place but the customer service earned the review. Stuff happens and in our case it seemed to be a breakdown in communication but the gentleman saw the issue and fixed it immediately. 20 minutes later (short safety talk) we were shooting an uzi and having a blast with Jose (I think). read more

Best damn range in Austin! The staff are friendly, and super helpful. The range itself is very nice, with great controls. If they had spotting scopes to rent for zeroing and confirming shot placement, they would be superlative. Spoke with their gun smith, a very kind and friendly gentleman, with a lot of experience. He's an education! The store is to die for : what a selection! You will find it's awesome for groups, families, friends and individuals of all ages and all skill level. They've got a big (and very cool) selection of guns for rent, including full auto firearms. It's VERY well done- makes me wanna join as a member! Great range. Excellent facilities. I always have a good interaction with the staff and have always found them respectful and helpful. The problem is they're understaffed many times. I had a membership and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth renewing it. The membership doesn't get that much for you other than a couple of early morning members only hours. As a member you often will still stand there waiting for a while to be helped when it's a little busy. I found myself asking why am I paying for a membership when I'm still forced to stand here in line for a while like everyone else. Not to say it's bad; I will still come back as my experience there is great. But I don't see the big advantage in paying for the membership. read more

It's really enjoyable to go to an Indoor Shooting Range of this caliber...Spit & Polish is an accurate description. I've shot in ranges all across the country as well as abroad. The well placed staff are true professionals! I was greeted upon entering which is impressive. I was asked if I was there to shoot or be escorted through the facility. I presented my membership card & my CHL. I was escorted to the check-in area, presented my credentials once again & was asked if I needed ammo & presented with a target & an assigned lane. As I left the check-in area I heard the staff member radio to the Range my lane. I entered through two doors & was greeted by Two Range Masters. The area was spotless. Should you have had the opportunity to shoot @ a previously established Range on the west side of Austin....we'll wipe that experience from your memory. Today was my first time shooting ever. My boyfriend asked me if I wanted to tag along with him, and I was hesitant at first just because I was nervous, but my experience I had at the Range was absolutely incredible. Daniel (the range master) was extremely patient and helpful with me. Having him in the room made me feel very comfortable. DO NOT GO! I got there at 7:15 PM and waited in line for 30 minutes because they only had one worker checking in customers. When I finally got to the front, I was asked if I was a member. I said no and inquired about the cost.The gentleman said $600 per year and a $75 member activation fee. Needless to say, I didn't sign up. I was then told all lanes were full, and I would be placed on a waiting list. Within 15 minutes I received a text that my lane was ready and to immediately go to Range check in. When I approached the counter attendant to tell him I received a text, he AGAIN asked if I was a member, and AGAIN I responded that I was not. He then informed me that I would not get a lane because they were full and they were not allowing anymore people in the shooting range . I told by the counter attendant I was the only one left waiting and that there were 2 lanes available. He said I'm sorry come back and see us again. I asked if I was a member would I be given a lane, and he responded more than likely yes. I've lived in Austin my entire life and have NEVER experienced such unfair treatment by a business or establishment. They really need a sign out front that states members only! Attached are photos of the 2 available lanes, an empty waiting room, and a text message that my lane was ready which I did not get to use because I was a non member. I came in from out of town and went shooting with my brother. It's a nice facility. More expensive than what I'm used to. Seems like a pretty popular place, as I had to wait at least an hour for a lane. There was a safety officer behind the lanes watching, which I appreciate since a few of the patrons appeared to possibly be new. A few guys got yelled at for inadvertently breaking some minor rules, which again, I appreciate. My local spot doesn't get nearly as much traffic and shooters pretty much self-police at the range. I think new shooters should feel safe and welcome here. Knocked a star for price, but it is a fancy facility and well-staffed, so they got bills to pay. read more

My son and I signed up for a 9mm handgun class to get ready for our LTC exams. For us this was a fantastic experience all around. The staff was incredible, and extremely polite. The facilities there are amazing. Our instructor, Adam, was super patient and took the time to explain everything carefully and answer all questions. We'd had a bad experience the week before at a different range further north with extremely rude staff, and the difference at The Range was night and day.
