Based on glowing reviews, we drove almost an hour to the town of Lafayette which I've never been before and found this town to be quaint. The bookstore and cafe was clean and cozy surrounded by books and more books with lots of cool trinkets to browse. I was a little disappointed though with their limited selection of bakery items and opted for just a cup of coffee and relaxed at a small table. Employee Josie took my pile of used books to get reviewed for possible future credit towards books I can buy later at their shop. Another building on the premises had lots of whimsical items such as socks, jewelry, pins, mugs, etc. I met Deidre that was friendly and helped me pick up out a cat shirt that was so adorable that I just had to buy. The prices are affordable and there's a parking lot plus street parking. The town of Lafayette was artsy and walkable to enjoy after going to the bookstore. read more

I was out visiting my aunt in Lafayette and the Airbnb we stayed at listed nearby coffee shops, highly recommending this one. When I texted my aunt to tell her I was headed here, she said it was her favorite too! It is a charming little bookstore with an assortment of delicious treats (many gluten-free options) and amazing coffee and tea as well! I had a mocha and my mother had a spicy chai and they were both incredible! The service was fast and friendly. We also picked up a few used books! Highly recommend! read more

I absolutely love this store. Their used books don't feel used and are such a great selection that you just feel like you're home. An amazing place to meet a friend, get your next best read or chill on the little deck with a coffee and your work (or a good book). It's the most adorable space with tables, books, stickers, cards, journals and games. The staff is super friendly and helpful. You can even bring in used books for discounts toward your book purchases and the best thing is that they are locally owned and independent! While the space is small, the book selection is top notch. Walking around one of my favorite towns in Colorado, I found an outstanding bookstore, Lafayette's "The Read Queen Bookstore and Cafe!" I promise there will be many more visits in the future! Tucked away a block east of Public Road in an excellent complex, this bookstore has a fabulous overall vibe and a wonderful space for whatever your needs. We browsed for an extended period and found a book to our liking, but we also sampled some of their food and drink. I enjoyed the nix within the store and the positive energy throughout. I most enjoyed the greeting from a staffer, who was so kind and warm in her hello and answering some questions. There was no needless push, no selling mode, just a kind greeting that led to a positive initial visit. She might have been management, but her interaction was similar to each of the staffers we encountered. read more

What isn't amazing? The book selection is wonderful, the games and gift shop is heaven -- the staff are kind and kind to each other.

I've personally haven't been to The Read Queen cafe and bookstore yet in Lafayette co, but my daughter in law who loves books, games and a good cup of tea loves this place. I being from out of state am looking forward to visiting this cafe the next time in Lafayette. I was very happy that they allow you to call in out of state to buy a gift card for someone! My daughter in law has her own law firm yet has been helping out her sister who was diagnosed with cancer and my son who had a skiing accident breaking his femur. This was a wonderful find for my wife and I the other day. This place is the perfect blend of Knick-knacks, cafe, books, and games. I didn't buy anything save the cold brew from the cafe but the employees were very nice. I saw they had a lovely little area in their kids section where I feel like my daughter could just sit and read. Just a fantastic vibe radiating from this place and I'm excited to go back. Charming local bookstore/coffeehouse/gift store! Nice selection of books, some creative cards (which is what I went looking for), and a separate store with games, puzzles and gifts. They have food as well, including some gluten free selections which I very much appreciated. The wait for the register could be a bit long as the registers not only rang people up but also took food and beverage orders, but it was worth the wait. Everything I want in a local bookstore and cafe. The Read Queen is small, but mighty! A special selection of books plus all the popular new releases. You'll find staff picks easily on display, and their used-books have star shaped stickers on them to help you browse. I love the selection of NA drinks- especially the Mojito Fizz- in addition to the espresso drinks. They also have a lounge next door where you can relax and read with your new book! They've now split the bookstore into two buildings next to each other: one building specializes in games and gifts, and the other is the main bookstore and cafe. The Read Queen--what a great bookstore. Stopped in because of the coffee shop. But had a wonderful experience. Browsing the shelves is easy with plenty of staff recommendations. The curation is excellent, with highlights from a variety of auth I was so charmed that I got my cappuccino in a mug even though I originally wanted it to go. And my cappucino was perfect. I asked for it extra dry--a style that few baristas really care to do--but it came out perfectly airy. So if you're in the area, stop by and have a go, if only for a cuppa. read more

A very cool little bookstore just opened in Lafayette! The Read Queen,a nod to the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland, feels cozy and comfortable, very welcoming with shelves full of new and used books. There is even a cafe with seating inside and outside to enjoy a beverage while reading. The owners bought the rights to the Book Cellar that closed in Louisville and reopened where Lafayette Lumber used to be. We drove 40 minutes out of our way to check this place out based on Yelp reviews and we were so glad we did. It's tiny, so be prepared to make friends with the other patrons. The coffees were perfect, the book selection was great. They have books out with recommendations and synopsis so you have an idea of what you're looking at. If you love bookstores and cafes, this place is for you. I've lived in Boulder county for 4 years and I'm always looking for a place that is quiet and at the same time inviting so I can get some work down for a few hours. The Read Queen is a beautiful gem in Lafayette, and I think sometimes it's highly underrated compared to some of the other cafes in town. I easily found a cozy, sunny corner to sit in, ordered a drink and perused the giant selection of books and gifts while I waited for my coffee. I ordered from their secret menu and selected the French Toast Latte with oat milk. I will be coming back frequently now that it's my favorite drink!! They also had a small variety of food selections and baked goods, so don't come too hungry. If you're a book lover, you should come here and spend a few hours just reading. I love when you can come into a cafe and not everyone has a computer and cellphone to look at, but they are actually just here for the books, coffee and good company! 10/10 would recommend anyone new or local should come here for a visit. Really cute idea for a bookstore to also have a café! I wish there were more places like this. I had a really great lemonade drink that had strawberry and mint flavors. They had a bunch of non-coffee options that were refreshing for a hot day. I was bummed to hear that they were out of ice, and wouldn't have any more until the next day. The drink was still, a good temperature, but not as cold as you would typically have at a café. I loved the book selections, and saw a lot of books around that I have on my "to read list". I thought the space was comfortable to sit in, and loved, and they had an outdoor place to sit. Besides the ice, the only other reason why I couldn't give this a five-star experience is because while, they close the shop at 7 PM, they start cleaning up what felt like around 6 PM. So while you are browsing the books, they are mopping the floors and spraying down everything and you definitely feel like you are in their way and should leave ASAP. read more

This is a magical red tent/cave of books and coffee and pastries...oh my! The number of bookstores in tiny Colorado communities amazes me, but this one is a standout. I could spend a weekend camped out here. The staff are enthusiastic and kind and you can just let yourself escape to another world in a book or simply sipping Java and shopping for gifts in the Queen's court. I finally stopped into this place and so glad I did! Their drinks are superd. I ordered a turmeric chai and it was better (spicier) than East Simpson Coffee. I still love East Simpson Coffee and will continue to go there but I'm rotating with The Read Queen now because I want to support both businesses. I'm looking forward to trying an espresso drink at The Read Queen. Their bookstore is so fun to look around at books, jewelry, puzzles, games, journals and little knick knacks. My first visit at the red queen bookstore. This is a very nice coffee shop/ bookstore. They have a very nice seating on the deck outside. The tables are set to allow social distancing. I had a cappuccino and it was really well done. Just the right amount of foamed milk over a tasty Espresso. It was truly a prefect cappuccino. It is not so often I get one as good as this one. I noticed that they were selling nice puzzles too. Perfect family activity when the days will be colder. read more
