I came here for a 20min tarot card reading for my birthday. I expected them to keep time for my session but instead was kept longer and charged for the difference (overpriced too). As for the reading, it wasn't good at all...the individual laid out cards on the table and then just started to ask me questions, none of which seemed to correspond to any of the cards, nor did they resonate with my life...I walked away from the reading essentially being told to take a dance class to loosen up and try magic mushrooms. If I could get my money back, I'd try. read more

A cute, little spiritual/new age bookstore with a every topic from astrology to Buddhism to herbal medicine to tarot right there at your fingertips. I love me anything wu-wu or new agey, I'm an astrologer so I try to always stop in and see what they have in terms of astrology. They also have readers that do tarot or channeling, I saw one that was there for a 30 minute session. It was good, I think my guides were off duty because they weren't talking to her guides much.... she was nice, but didn't tell me anything earth shattering. The lady at the front counter was very helpful and friendly though. I could spend all day in here if I could! Huge selection of books that ranges all types of genres of spirituality, health, psychology, religion and etc. that it has a little something for everyone. They also have really cute hip decor, rings, tapestries, necklaces and other interesting items, numerous selection of tarot cards and even a tarot reader for anyone who is looking for some guidance. I loved the fact that this new age bookstore was tucked away down a flight of stairs, which added to the fact that I was intrigued by it. There is a huge selection of books along with all kinds of spiritual items, incense, candles, etc. I loved that there was a variety of spirituality followings represented and the store itself smelled amazing. We didn't have a ton of time to spend in this store but the young lady at the counter gave us a friendly greeting and left us to explore the rows of shelves. Trust me I love the selection and psychic availability of this store Great stuff and I have come to the store for 20 years sporadically. I'm a local in Boulder Today I felt shunned and uninvited to the store. Perhaps it was the uniform I wear, but this doesn't diminish my spirituality, my craft or my own psychic abilities. When the clerk, a young man, doesn't greet me, kept to his book up to the moment I left, and put absolutely no effort to be kind and shoot he didn't even respond to my good bye. I thought this was a safe space, but it didn't feel this way today. The negative energy shooting off this guy was palpable. It really sucked and I'm interested in some items but will not purchase if this young man is there. Prices are reasonable, the vibe is great, and the selection is expansive. One of the country's great New Age bookstores. If you're into that sort of thing. The wall murals are a nice, and relatively recent, touch. My kudos to the manager for dissuading me from purchasing a ripoff book - I had picked up an Annie Besant monograph titled "What the Mystic Means by the Eternal Now." It was only 48 pages so I stupidly assumed it would have a $2 pricetag or some such. When we brought our purchases to the counter, the woman there pointed out that the book was priced at $15, and about half of the supposed 48 pages were actually blank! That was one of the nicest things a shopkeeper has ever done for me - prevented me from making a costly mistake. I can only give Lighthouse three stars because it is a fairly conventional New Age bookstore with a depressingly familiar stock of titles. Nothing new here. read more

You've talked to all the weirdos on the street and bought a used copy of (insert Great American classic book here). What's next? Take the stairs on down at Broadway and Pearl to Lighthouse Bookstore. It's small, but it's packed to the gills with everything upon everything you have ever wanted to know about your spiritual self. There is a unique selection of books here. I didn't buy anything, but one book interested me. Something about the angelic powers of numeric sequences. According to the book, 666 not only symbolizes the devil (which is common knowledge), but also a person's obsession with the material world. Just to let you know, I thought it was interesting. Lots of similar books about how to envision your own spiritual world. There are tons of candles. Some prices for the candles were ridiculous (healing powers, my ass), but still interesting. The incense was cheap (and really, don't you feel like you just need some incense in your life?). Nice, friendly staff. The woman working here when I went was very soft spoken, so when I spoke, I think I was too loud for the store. Oops. There was also a woman having some silent time in the back of the store. Hope I didn't mess up her mojo. Even if new age and spiritual stores aren't your thing, Lighthouse is still worth a try. read more

Perhaps the king of all metaphysical bookstores, at least in this part of the world. Bodhi Tree in LA is on a par with it, but that's 1000 miles away. Covers many bases, many different paths, philosophies, & spiritual directions. Many of the books in here are the ones you'd want to pick up when you saw them in any other bookstore, because of their relative scarcity. Here, however, that seems to be their stock in trade. Plenty of sculptures & tchotchke in addition to the comprehensive book selection. Staff is always friendly. I could all too easily drop several hundred dollars in here without breaking a sweat, so I exercise a lot of discipline when I go in (to keep from bankrupting myself). read more

My Acupuncturist recommended a cd for me to listen to that is sound therapy to help with weight loss and body image. She said this store would have it in stock. Over the years I've gotten into the habit of just ordering books, dvds, and cds on Amazon because it's so darned easy and sometimes the discounts are absolutely amazing. It had been at least 10 years since I'd been into the Lighthouse--I used to like to go in there to get Tarot decks and such. I really don't care for all of what's involved to park a car anywhere near downtown Boulder, but fortunately found a lovely shady *free* space on Mapleton, just a few blocks from the store, and a nice healthy shady walk ensued. Many of the businesses downtown validate parking tickets for the downtown lots, and it's true I forgot to ask if this one does. There are several city-owned multilevel lots within walking distance if you like to store your car in concrete elegance while you shop. But really the in thing in Boulder is NOT to drive your car downtown, but rather to walk, bus, or bicycle instead. Anyway---about the bookstore---the owner is quite proud of how he's remodeled and moved things around. It's nice and logically arranged and easy to find what you're looking for. He had very positive things to say about my Acupuncturist, and allowed me to put my business card on the bulletin board there. I ended up purchasing the recommended CD, plus a deck of Self-Care Cards by Cheryl Richardson, and a nifty little Jasper stone mounted on a wood base for my office. Something I really like about this store, and the whole building here really, is the smell. The Ben & Jerry's smell permeates the building. Don't know why ice cream causes a smell, but it does, and it's a very nice aroma!! So whatever you want to call it...new age, metaphysical...etc.. this is a bookstore that is good at what it does, and is run by helpful, knowledgeable, and kind people. I'm not in to this sort of place, walking in and immediately being confronted by Guide Books to help me with my Indigo Child confirmed that right away. I hate to sound like a quarter-life curmudgeon, but, back in my day they were called dorks, or nerds, or geeks; they were smart kids, perhaps too smart for a happy elementary school existence, they wore capes, played the flute and got over all their shit by the time they went to college.. Just saying... Anyway, I was looking for a belly dance DVD, nobody on Pearl had one, I figured I'd try the store emitting the Nag Champa cloud. What ho! Books and instructional DVDs! Wow! I love this little, hidden gem of a bookstore on Pearl Street! Reminds me of East West Bookstore in Mountain View CA or Bodhi Tree in LA. Sure it's small, but there is a surprisingly amount of light considering it's at basement level. Lighthouse has a surprisingly varied selection of metaphysical, New Age, spiritual and religious. From tarot cards to Bibles to Buddhism to Yoga/ Hindu sculptures/art, I had fun looking around and ended up buying two books (on sale at great prices!) And the man at the counter was friendly -- he gave me a free votive candle. I like this place and I'll be back! read more

This bookstore had a bit of smell from the incense, but has interesting selection of books. It has various religious books, exception of support towards Christians. It also has books on philosophy, science, & other such topics not commonly covered in most bookstores. It has a bit of Hogwarts-ish feels. I'm surprised at the reviews I've read for Lighthouse here on Yelp. Lighthouse Bookstore is a new-age bookstore which has a range of books quite beyond any other store in Boulder. Like other stores in its class, it carries everything from Christian poetry to new-age Wicca spell books and candle-"magick" kits. If its not in, they're eager to order it for you whatever it is, like any good bookshop. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful, often having a lot of advise on which books are good within any topic. They are clearly oriented on helping the buyer over making a big sale, and they are extremely lenient with 'lingerers' - in fact I've felt welcome in the store after nearly an hour of browsing! The store smells of incense and has a huge array of statues, trinkets, and other spiritual paraphernalia. It is a welcome refuge from the activity of the mall above. They even have a psychic reader if you want the full new-age experience. This is the only dedicated bookstore of its kind in Boulder, and survives well in a highly competitive location - I've been surprised more spiritual/new-age bookshops like this aren't in Boulder, but with Lighthouse here I've never really needed another. read more

Each of us received a tarot reading and it was not only emotional but also inspiring. What a nice and sweet guy he was! I really love this bookstore. When I am in the mood to ponder life on any level, I will make the trek from Broomfield. This bookstore houses every conceivable book in the world of spirituality, mystic, metaphysical and so much more. There are tons of Tarot Decks. You can see the whole deck, because they are displayed for you on boards. The owner of this downstairs gem is really an amazing Man. I went there with a client whom the owner had asked to leave the store (for unspecified reasons) the last time my client was there. We asked him to step over to a quiet corner to talk so we could understand the situation. The owner was extremely rude - loudly accusing my client (who has an autism spectrum disorder and has never used streets drugs ever) - of having been high on drugs the last time he saw my client in the store - effectively publicly shaming a very sensitive person who then spent the next week being afraid to go out in public in fear that people would think my client was on drugs. I will never shop there again. The store sells metaphysical books that talk about love, compassion, and the importance of not judging others based on appearance. I wish the owner would read his own books. read more

Personally, I think that the Lighthouse has been around as long as it has (about 30 years) because it contains the beating heart of Pearl Street's unapologetic weirdness in its narrow aisles. It's more than just a curiosity; sometimes, it's just downright weird. For example, one of my favorite things about the Lighthouse is that it's practically hidden in plain sight (I asked strangers on the street where it is after a couple of years away, and I was standing directly in front of it - it's under the Ben and Jerry's, btw), but when you see it you are surprised that it escaped notice! This is normal, I found out. Even if you're not blown away by the wares, the curious won't be disappointed. The Lighthouse Bookstore is a prime example of why the Pearl Street is unlike any other mall; where else can you buy potions at 4 (or more?) locations in a 2 block radius... not to mention the Shambhala center, the Psychic Institute, and an arcade bar also exist within that perimeter. i have been shopping new age / spiritual bookstores since the 60's. most that were...are not. the lighthouse bookstore near me in s.f. closed years ago. that store was my favorite. this store is better! i have not encountered a selection of statues, books and gifts this awesome since the "bodhi tree" out on melrose/west hollywood years ago. i am not sure i could ever visit my favorite place in colorado again without spending my budget at this iconic beacon of light. read more

This is a great little metaphysical store to check out when you @ the Pearl Street Mall. I love how its below street level (somehow I feel like it adds to he metaphysical-ness of it all, hehe). There is a great selection of books and different world religions, sex, yoga, meditation, and lots of other metaphysical/spiritual topics. They have lots of beautiful greeting cards and tarot decks (I LOOOOVE the greeting cards with Alex Grey art on them, talk about EPIC). There are also tons of statues, jewelry, dvds, and other various knick-knacks. My favorite thing that I found here was a cute little book about all the Hindu Gods (it's ALL illustrated and very informative). This is quite a cozy little shop. As it happens, I purchased the LARGEST Thoth Tarot Set available, only to be informed by the cashier person that that deck was "unfortunately not 10% off" even though it had a sticker on it.
