I couldn't find anything on the interwebs that really conveyed what I wanted it to. I found artist Chris Barton on Instagram and after following him for a while I decided that his style was something I loved and that I though would suit the piece well. We emailed back and forth a few times with a pretty vague description of what I was hoping for, and I had to set my appointment out 8 weeks in advance (they were busy, a great sign!). I didn't see the sketch until I arrived which worried me a bit, but all my fears were calmed the minute I looked at it! I explained my concerns with past tattoo artists who had heavy hands, causing some scarring underneath the tattoo. As someone with darker skin, this is a real concern! He took his time, paid attention to every single detail, and the result was perfect. You could see the artists around the studio were all extremely dedicated to their crafts and styles, and that's why I still sing their praises though I haven't gotten any more tattoos since then. Worth it!!

I plan on doing much much more. Artists here really do a great job of taking your ideas and making them fit the body to look good and no over use of space to block future projects. He was super kind, regularly checked in on how I was doing, and overall just had such a positive vibe about him. The tattoo he drew up for me was custom drawn based on elements from reference photos I gave him and it was exactly as I had imagined it. He finished the work quickly while maintaining straight lines and fitting in all the details and shading. I had a great experience overall. I will say that Erin at the front desk was super helpful too. She was very direct when she spoke, so I can understand how (based on the other review for this shop) people may see her demeanor as rude or off putting. I think she's a genuine person who is very informative and helpful, she just doesn't use a fake customer service voice like everyone expects (or should I say, demands) these days. I saw her interact with plenty of clients while I was in the chair, and even watched her do a few piercings, and never once did she seem like she didn't want to help someone. She even came over to me while my tattoo was being finished up and complimented the design, then struck up a conversation about hair dye since we both use vibrants in our hair. So if you're deciding between shops to go to, I'd highly recommend these guys. The space was open, calm, and pleasantly lit without being too bright. The music was so good that I was sad Ruby didn't have the playlist - lots of Dora Jar, FKA Twigs, and similar vibes. There is merch in the front of the store, snacks, multiple full-length mirrors throughout, lovely decor, and a clean bathroom. There's a small studio just for taking pictures, which is where Ruby took these photos. I spent over 3 hours here, and my guest and I were very comfortable the whole time. I would definitely return and highly recommend this studio from my experience!
