Out of all the places I've gotten tattoos, which is a lot. Shop minimum is a baseline for money spent in a single session. Got two tattoos from an artist named Ant, first one was about 3" x 2" and all black. That one was completed in maybe 15 minutes. The second tattoo size was about the size of a dime, maybe took 3-5 mins. Don't get me wrong. I understand you pay for experience not time, this isn't my first rodeo in the tattoo world. Didn't talk price prior because I wanted to see the quality vs cost and integrity of the artist. You can tell when an artist wants repeat customers or when they're just out to make as much money as possible. First tattoo cost me 150, second tattoo, artist said "I'll just charger you the shop min on that of 125". Based on just size and quality alone, these are the two most expensive tattoos I have and they took the longest to heal out of any I've ever got before. Definitely dug the color and lines in there. I'm sure it's a good shop as a whole, all the rest of the staff seem to be pretty chill and friendly. I'm not saying don't go here to get a tattoo, but I am saying make sure you talk Price before they stick a needle in you and make sure you get that price in writing. read more

My neighbor recommended Sylvia to me after getting an amazing tattoo from her! Memento was clean, organized and comfortable! Sylvia was able to create this beautiful tattoo for me after I sent her a handful of inspiration photos via email. She sat with me and looked over the design and let me know that I could request any edits I wanted. I didn't feel rushed or pressured once. This is the first large tattoo I've ever gotten and she exceeded all of my expectations! She has the lightest and most gentle touch, even with the shaded sections! I was expecting it to be much more painful than it actually was, and I credit it all to how gently she works on you. She was friendly, easy to talk to and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I came in purely on Yelp reviews and am glad I made Memento the choice for my first and only tattoo. I've always been in the "just don't have a desire for a tattoo" category, until. Until I lost my dad a couple of years ago and these past two years began playing the thought of getting one in memory of him over and over and over... Perhaps being anxious goes without saying, but in case... Up until making the decision to enter into Memento and being met by the receptionist and then Cary I was quite nervous. However, the gal who met me upon entry was very kind and focused on learning why I was there/how she could help. Upon expressing interest in a tattoo - and with Cary - she popped up to retrieve him for me to talk with. What a nice, attentive and genuinely interested listener! As my good fortune would have it, things fell into place and Cary was able to do my tattoo with me having to kill only a little time nearby (I was only going to be in the C'Bus area a short while). A stencil of the signature I brought with, 'dad', was made and very quickly applied. While it WAS painful (as I had always feared; I'm also a big baby when it comes to pain), it turned out perfectly. The 5-7 minutes of discomfort was completely worth the little secret that is my tattoo commemorating of one of the greatest beings I've ever known. I couldn't convey as much at the time, it was all I could do to contain the emotion as it was the anniversary of dad's passing. I highly recommend Cary and Memento. read more

Scott did my very first tattoo ever (on my foot - I may be insane) and was really good at making me feel at ease with the whole process. Two years later, that first tattoo is still my favorite, I've gone back for two more (another one from Scott, one from Ryan), and will likely go back to see Iggy at some point next year. I've also recommended the place to more than one person, and have only gotten good feedback from those people as well. The shop is bright and clean, and as far as I can tell, they disinfect tools and hands more than most doctors I've been to. The waiting area is comfy, which admittedly is good, because a 12:30 appointment usually means that's when your artist comes in, and you'll be in their chair around 1 or 1:30 after they're done setting up. But whatever, now that I know that, I can plan for it, and the work is completely worth the wait. read more

Best tattoo shop I've ever visited, and there's been a few. I chose Adam to do some traditional Sailor Jerry inspired work on my forearm, sent him a couple of pictures of stuff I'd be happy with - literally the best examples I could find on tumblr, Pinterest etc. I figured if he could get them half as good I'd be well impressed. Fast forward to now and I'm sat with ink I'm seriously pleased with after a 4 or 5 hour session yesterday afternoon. As soon as he brought his drawing out I knew I'd picked the right guy. Adam absolutely nailed it and what I got not only beat my expectations, but blow the pictures I sent him out of the water, I honestly can't find a better example after 2 hours of trawling the web, it's amazing! Obviously I'm a little biased, but I'm also super critical and picky having had a couple of ... less satisfactory tats done previously. The shading is beautiful, the outlines are *razor* sharp, and the design perfect. The rest of the guys at Memento seem a really cool bunch, everyone I've seen leaving seems as happy as I am with my work, so it's as safe a bet as you'll find. Prices are... well if I'm honest I think they're too low. $100 an hour for that level of skill kinda feels like I've ripped him off in hindsight, but given I'm planning on getting a full sleeve done at Memento it probably evens out ;) I'm well over an hour away, and it's worth every minute of that god awful boring ass drive from dayton. If you're anywhere in ohio, trust me they're worth the trip for some top quality tattoo work. The gallery they've got in the shop is ace too! read more

Holy shit. How has no one reviewed Memento Tattoo Gallery on Yelp, yet? FIRST! Alright, so do you have really shitty tattoos? Well, that's your fault for not going to an awesome shop like Memento that houses three of Columbus' best tattooists. I'm not joking, either. Just look online at the work of other Columbus tattooists, then look at Memento's work. There's no comparison. I've met Cary and Scott -- two gnarly and super-talented artists -- but only have worked with Dave Tevenal, who I can't say enough about. The man is a wildly inspired artist who can claim three pieces on my body and will most likely be able to claim a couple more before I'm dead or my skin is too damn nasty and wrinkled for tattoos. So next time you're looking up Columbus tattooists, hit up Memento before you commit to another shitty street shop tattoo. read more

Let me start by saying this was my first tattoo experience and I wanted a World Map outline on my ribs. I had emailed Scott about the idea and he responded very quickly and I had an appointment two days later. I went in a didn't know what to expect really but Scott was awesome. He eased me into getting the tattoo and continuously asked if I was alright. He even managed to map all the tiny islands on the map show up. Very impressive artist and shop!! The place is covered with badass artwork (done by the artists) and it is super clean and just gives off a good atmosphere. From what I can tell all of the artists are very talented. My artist was Scott and he was fucking awesome. He was so nice and helped me create my own design of what I wanted and it could not have possibly turned out any more beautiful. A friend of mine recommended Cary at Memento Tattoo after I mentioned I was looking to get some new work done. Let me say I was blown away by my experience there. The shop is clean and the staff was friendly and super helpful from the first time I came in to discuss what I was looking for to the time I walked out with the completed work. Cary was super patient at the appointment since I didn't really have the placement worked out and he did multiple different options until we landed on one I liked. Let me just say I am blown away by the completed tattoos. They are way better than I even envisioned. My wife took one look and commented "damn that guy is good". This place was great! I was in front out of town, staying with a few friends, and have been wanting to get a tattoo for awhile now. My normal tattoo artist is booked until September so I thought, "Hell, while I'm here, I'll see if they have any good places to get a tattoo". This place had fantastic reviews, so I called and asked if they took any walk-ins, which the nice guy on the phone replied that they did and he'd check to see if anyone was available. He took my info and called me back within the hour and said to come in, there had been a cancellation. The guy who did my tattoo, Cary, was not only smokin' hot, but did a great job. This was an absolutely bad demonstration of how to do business. I went to the shop a week before and spoke with Ryan Campbell who set up an appointment for my girlfriend and I to get work done. Ryan never responded to emails I then sent him of the images I sent, nor inquiries of if he actually received them. I called on the day we were scheduled to confirm our appointment when the gentleman on the phone said that he was there and had everything set for us at 5, but the appointment was at 5:30pm. When we arrived the shop was closed. The experience has been overwhelmingly disappointing considering this was a recommendation from several friends. read more

These guys are crazy talented with their artwork. My artist wasn't much of a talker and didn't go over the sterilization/safety requirements, which definitely should have been done. They seemed a little unorganized and I waited for about an hour after my scheduled appointment before we got started which was a little annoying, but after a long night out I just sort of dozed off on their big comfy couch. I have several other tattoos, but after coming here I have realized that other tattoo "artists'" claims of not being able to make lines very small or thin were complete B.S. I am much happier with the results than I initially anticipated. The price was very reasonable for the high quality of work. My only qualm was waiting for so long and not being given the procedural talk as I always have (I have 8 tattoos). That said, I will absolutely go back for any more work and probably for a cover-up, and definitely recommend them. Just be sure to ask any questions you might have! Also, they had the History Channel on tv. Big plus because I'm a big history geek! read more

I am giving it a one star because I had a horrifying experience. When I researched this place I saw nothing but good review so naturally I thought it would be a great place to get my second tattoo here. I contacted the owner - Cary through yelp yo set up an appointment and Cary was very responsive and professional. The day of my appointment I had forgot my design at home since I was rushing to get out of the house. I told Cary about it when I got to the shop and he told me not to worry because he can type it up on his computer and print it out for me. I wanted him to take my phone to type it since I had taken a picture of him. And maybe because he thought he was very experienced and wouldn't make a mistake he said, "no no I got it. I don't need to take your phone" he came out and put it on my arm for me to check if it looks good or not. Since it was my second tattoo and this place had such good reviews I didn't think of double checking if the phrase or writing is correct I just saw it was the place I wanted and said to him it is good to go. The process took 10 mins and he wrapped it up. Once I gotten home I realized he made a big mistake. My tattoo should say, " be not afraid i go before you always 31:8" but Cary typed it wrong on my computer and put "be not afraid i go before you always 3:18" I am a catholic and this was suppose to be representation of my religion and I had gotten a completely wrong phrase on the Bible. It is very insulting of my religion. I emailed Cary and he said to come in and he can fix it. I went back and demanded a full refund because it was his fault, but his attitude gave off that it was all my fault for not checking. He initially offered me a gift card and I told him I would never ever get another tattoo let alone go back to his store again. After arguing he finally agreed to refund me half of my money back. But this is obviously not about the money it is about the principle. He did not own up to his mistake and gave 100% the blame to me. I am very traumatized by this experience and would never get another tattoo again. This has been a really painful experience. I do not recommend this place since Cary is the owner so his actions represents the whole store and I am still very very upset by the whole thing. read more

When I went in to show my sketch, Cary, my artist was super nice and gave me tips on what would look good/bad and how he could modify my design for the size I wanted. My roommate and I both got tattoos. Being younger women getting first tattoos I expected to be patronized a little but he was nothing but respectful and nice. Memento Tattoo is AWESOME in so many ways. As is Iggy, one of the tattoo artists there. Here's my experience with them over the past year. Earlier this year, I decided on a tattoo idea for my first tattoo, and began my search for an artist. Upon searching, I talked to a number of artists, most of which were flat out rude or uninterested in my idea. It felt like I was on a downward spiral when I started hearing from multiple people to check out Memento in Grandview. I gave them a call, and was straight up with them that I wasn't familiar with their artists, but was wondering if they could direct me to someone. I told them my idea (black ink only, mirror with a quote inside on my forearm), and the guy answering the phone at the time gave me two people he thought would fit well. I looked up their portfolios, and instantly fell in love with Iggy's work. While he is most known for portraits, his line work was fantastic and I could tell he really had an eye for detail. I went into the shop in May, after e-mailing him my idea (which he got back to me about SO quickly), and had a consultation. He was so easy going, a genuine guy, and was excited with me about my idea. It was a breath of fresh air. He is a super busy artist (understandably so), so the first available appointment was mid october. At first I was a little disappointed that it was so far off, but I booked the appointment. I felt confident, and am now so glad I kept the appointment. Over the next few months, we e-mailed ideas back and forth, and he was with me every step of the way with communication. When the day finally arrived, I came into the shop to find he had drawn up exactly what I had envisioned. He made a few suggestions, and I put my full trust in his ideas. The appointment was a breeze. He was fun to talk to, took things at a pace I was comfortable with, and overall made it a fantastic first tattoo experience for me. I will absolutely be back, and it's going to take a lot to win me over everywhere else! Iggy won my trust, and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a great tattooing experience. If you're looking for a reputable, fun, super talented, and genuine group of tattoo artists, look no further.
