Elite Menagerie Habitats - My 20 gallon long planted freshwater tank stocked solely by Elite Menagerie Habitats

best pet store in the state, hands down…read more louise's selection, and care is completely unmatched. while most fish stores seem to only care about moving product, elite menagerie is invested in making sure all of the fish are healthy and happy, even in their sale tanks. I have never had a plant or animal from there die on me, even with notoriously delicate species, like pink lady nerites, and licorice gourami. the live food bar is a life saver for my picky spoiled animals, and plant selection is also crazy - they will definitely be the biggest plants, for the cheapest. I've gotten some plants that would have run for $40 from a hobbyist, for under $15! if you are shopping somewhere else, you're missing out. despite having 5 petstores closer to me, i always make the trek out to elite menagerie.

All kidding aside, I was looking for something relaxing to sit in front of while the weather is not conducive of being outdoors, to glance over at while working on my website, marketing, product making, etc. Having owned several salt water reef tanks before moving to PA, and not wanting to deal with salt creep any longer, I decided to dive into freshwater planted, and never looked back. Being newer to the area, I asked for LFS recommendations and checked them out. However, after having my first phone conversation with Louise from Elite Menagerie Habitats, (which lasted 45 minutes) I knew I had found my store. Like me, Louise runs her local small business solo and has committed her life, including every waking moment of her spare time, to her cause. She is one of the most dedicated entrepreneurial women business owners I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She is ridiculously knowledgeable, resourceful and charismatic. She is a true professional. She does expect the customer to do their research, which as a research enthusiast, I fully respect, and prefers not to spoon feed customers information that can readily be googled in an effort to save all involved both time and energy. This methodology is just one part of her efficiency that makes it possible to keep the store running, website/marketing posts updated and tanks looking immaculate! She has guided me each and every step of the way in my freshwater planted tank journey. She has helped me make educated decisions on plants and livestock, based on my equipment, yet always keeps my budget in mind, never once pushing me to purchase anything unnecessary. I should also mention her prices are beyond fair and her inventory is constantly evolving, always healthy and fully stocked. And if she doesn't have it, and it could be found, she'll find it! She genuinely cares for her fish and invert friends- she even names some of them and has adorable nicknames for them too! Whether you are local or not, check out Elite Menagerie Habitats. You won't be disappointed! And if you're too far, check out her website- shipping is very reasonable if you are in the area! Thank you, Louise, for being an inspiration, and making my freshwater planted set up a reality, and exceeding my expectations in every way! See you soon, Danielle Happy Friends Farm

I am devastated writing this. I adopted from this shelter believing I was bringing home a kitten…read morewho needed love and care. According to her paperwork, she weighed just 3 lbs--which I later learned is completely abnormal for her age. She was 10 months old, not a young kitten. That means she was severely underweight and likely starved or chronically underfed while in their care. The place was also filthy, and she was not fixed. From the start, she had eye issues and ongoing respiratory problems. Under vet supervision, I did everything possible to rehabilitate her. We slowly increased her food, treated her symptoms, and managed to get her weight up slightly--but the damage had already been done. Her immune system was so compromised that despite all efforts, she suddenly passed away. She was eating, drinking, and seemed stable. There was no warning. Losing her has been absolutely heartbreaking. This shelter either failed to properly feed her, failed to disclose the severity of her condition, or both. A cat in this state should never have been adopted out without full transparency and medical intervention. I trusted this place. I trusted their paperwork. That trust cost an innocent animal her life and left me grieving a cat who never even got the chance she deserved. Please think very carefully before adopting from here.

Broad overview, it's unsanitary, cluttered, animals roaming, and just down right disgusting. They don't clean it and it's obvious. No other vet offices are this dirty. Second the staff will give you the run around because they overbook themselves and waste everyone's time. My cat went in with no problems to get a spay and came out with having random "concerns" and charges that they couldn't prove with a diagnosis of any sort and lack of communication during this time. I expressed my concerns of having to wait excessive amounts already and after hearing all different excuses and stories... the terrible Communication to why and how long or any sort of status. I announced that I would not be paying my bill except for what was originally agreed upon. The front desk staff yanked my cat carrier out of my hand (which had my post op cat in) and rushed her up the stairs to where the doctor is while shaking her around aggressively. I said something and she just gave me a sarcastic response. After speaking with the dr it was obvious they could not take accountability and blamed everything else for not doing their jobs right. If you really were that busy, then use your front office staff to make those calls and schedule smarter expecting emergencies to occur or walk in. It's not that complicated. In addition to that already terrible experience, they were unable to provide me with much discharge and aftercare details and then called me hours later to tell me I forgot my medicine and follow up apt. I had the medicine already and was not going to be scheduling my cats follow up there. Save yourself time, money, and the safety for your animals. You really do get what you pay for
