Things have definitely changed at this store, AND FOR THE BETTER! I've shopped at this store off and on over the years and was always a bit distressed over the puppies kept individually in small wire cages. Other reviewers have mentioned that in the past, like most pet stores, the animals came from "breeders". HOWEVER, on a visit today I was thrilled to see that their puppy and kitten sales policy has made a dramatic, and really admirable, turn for the better! Not only have the small cages disappeared, but the pups and cats for sale are ALL rescue dogs from the Humane Society and other rescue groups! The cages have been replaced by nice sized rooms that hold 2-3 puppies which can be seen cuddling and playing together. It's such a pleasant and uplifting change. Your bath station is filthy and disgusting! We've used it now about 6 times, and each and every time, it looks like months of caked dust and hair has not been cleaned, your wash stations are missing hooks to keep dog contained on one of the tubs, no water pressure on one, so really only one usable tub and we have 2 dogs. This place is dirty, your employees are eating at the check out. Just a sloppy dirty place. There was a dog in the back room near the wash station barking frantically the day we we were there. I will gladly drive somewhere else for a cleaner environment. Oh, and not to mention, I will never buy my dogs raw food or Open farm kibble here because it's so much more expensive than where I currently buy it. I don't see them staying open in Qtown much longer. A newer pet store boutique will come along and offer so much more. No pride in ownership is very clearly going on here read more

I highly recommend this store. Dropped by on the day before thanksgiving to have a quick manicure ((read trim) for the dog). Staff was very friendly and accommodating. They really took time to make him at ease (he is very reluctant on the whole nail thing) and it was done in a breeze. Wonderful decision to adopt our puppy. The facility was clean and staff was very friendly and knowledgeable which enable the process to move forward smoothly. The puppy is fully vaccinated which was a huge benefit. The cost was very reasonable as was the food recommendations. Alright- right off the bat I knew this store was going to be absolutely disgusting from the outside. The overall appearance doesn't seem to matter much to them at all. I, regardless of the outward appearance, decided to bite the bullet and go in. Immediately I was hit with the stench of a disgusting, unkempt, and downright revolting pet store. Albeit they have a pretty wide variety of products, the care for the poor animals is the bare minimum at best. I first noticed the disgusting conditions the dozens of puppies were being forced to be in. Then I happen to glance at the very small selection of reptiles and amphibians. Now i've been to the other store in lansdale and was actually quite impressed with the care. The biggest thing that made my stomach drop was the hermit crabs. It's very well known that hermit crabs need SUPER high humidity (90%), because they have GILLS and not lungs. It's also common knowledge that they need lots of stuff to climb on, and at LEAST 5-6 inches of dirt to dig and bury themselves in. These poor crabs are probably dying by the day. This enclosure is like putting a hamster in an arboreal geckos enclosure. It's absolutely disgusting that a chain petstore with so many employees, that not a single person has mentioned it or even briefly discussed it? The care for these crustaceans have developed vastly in the last few years. Google is a pet keepers best friend. The fish, as well, were kept in less than abysmal conditions. It's quite frustrating as a person who has been profoundly active in the animal care community for decades. These are BASIC BASIC things, that need very little research to understand and learn. This is by far one of the worst pet stores i've been in. Disappointing beyond belief. I genuinely hope that this store improves like Lansdale did. read more

Very nice store and friendly people. Always get a greeting when we walk in. I have been working with Scott in the fish department for almost 10 months. he is helping me reestablish my 55 gallon aquarium. Scott is the definition of patient. Takes his time and very thorough with each detail. I have had water problems(high nitrates) for several weeks. We are working our way through the problem slowly in hopes of adding more fish that will eventually thrive. If it wasn't for Scott, I think I may have given up by now. This is a large pet store on Route 309 in Quakertown, right after the intersection of 309 and 313 (aka Broad St). The store carries almost everything one would need to take care of one's pet(s). There are always bunnies, guinea pigs, and birds right at the front that you can ooh and ahh over, just don't pick them up. Petting them is okay. To the right of that are the puppies. They are adorable. Prices are a bit cheaper than most places I've seen. The middle of the store is mostly pet supplies from food and toys to bedding and decorations. This is where you can get things in semi-bulk at great prices. My sister found the best price for her Timothy Hay bedding here, the only other option cheaper is if you order online, but once you factor in shipping and handling, it's much more expensive. A big bag of ReptoMin turtle food can be found here for $5 cheaper than most chain pet stores. We were browsing some aquarium decorations and the prices were unbelievable since the big ones are almost half of what most chains sell them at. The smaller pieces are only a buck or two less than the chains but still very good prices. The fish selection is amazing. They just got some African cichlids in from the Great Lakes of Africa that have amazing colors, rivaling those of saltwater fish! Most of the time, most of the fish are in great shape, none of that listless wiggling thing. And when some get sick, they are quick to quarantine and medicate with signs posted to inform the customers you can't buy these: "we're not feeling very well right now." Cute. The saltwater fish selection is nice too with a whole wall of them to chose from, as well as some anemones. Towards the front are two large open tanks filled with anemones also. Can't comment if the two tanks are freshwater or saltwater anemones because I'm not versed on that subject. Here is also where you can find lots of aquarium rocks sold by the pound. You pick out the pieces that you want, and the varieties are astounding: porous rocks, "rubble", slate, so many others I don't know the names to. Also has plenty of feeder fish, in different sizes, and the selection is big and healthy, not some tiny tank half hanging on fish. Lots of reptiles too, and there are currently two giant prehistoric looking turtles hanging out on the front left side of the store. I don't know that much about frogs, snakes, lizards, etc... to comment on them except to say quite a selection. Same thing with dog and cat food as well as toys and bedding. I have seen kittens here at this location before but usually it's puppies. Oh yeah and there are also many other small rodents too. read more

Every single rabbit they have here today is dying. One couldn't even move or hold its head up. After alerting the staff and trying to help because I foster rabbits, they took the bunny into the back room to die instead of using Critical Care. They were in a huge rush to hide it from the public instead. Next, we went over to the fish...dead fish everywhere...eating each other in filthy, stale tanks. 'Natural' is an understatement...the people who work here don't intervene at all. They just let nature takes its course to a quick death. read more

One lady that helped me find a jacket for my pup said the item was 25% off, and there was a sign clarifying just that but when I got to the counter they told me it was not on sale, even though the sign was still up saying it was. So my Family and I adopted a dog here a little over a month ago, it was a disorganized nightmare and we're still dealing with the side effects of their incompetence. First when we showed up to adopt a dog, we spent time with a dog named Dusty and introduced him to our Puggle Ella. We loved him and we asked if we could adopt him on the spot, we were told yes, but found out that Ella was not up to date on all her shots and that we'd have to fix that. Thats completely reasonable, so we scheduled Ella to get her shots a week later (earliest we could get it done) we were told that because she did not have her shots, we could not hold Dusty or pay a down payment. We later found out that that was untrue and that we had been misinformed. A week later we returned, (we had stopped by and called several times to make sure Dusty was still there) but when we arrived he was adopted, we missed him by about an hour. This is when the staff asked why we didnt put a down payment on Dusty and we explained that we were told we were not allowed. So we took a look at some of the other adoption dogs, we liked Fern (now Lola) and we started the process for getting Fern home. They lost my adoption papers though from last week so i had to fill out more. I was told that Fern couldn't come home right away because she was sick, because she had an abscess, and because she needed to be spayed. Nobody quite knew exactly why she couldnt come home with us, but thats fine I really didnt mind waiting for her to get spayed. A little less than a week later they called me to tell me I could come get her, to my surprise she still had an abscess, and she was not yet fixed. I was given a spaying voucher for a vet about an hour away and told I'd have to make the appointment and drive to the facility and get her fixed myself, and that I'd have to give her pills for her abscess. They gave me the wrong instructions for the Pills I didn't find out until later, and they had lost the paperwork again. I was there with my other dog Ella for over an hour while the staff fumbled around to figure out how to proceed with the adoption. Finally I was allowed to take Lola home. The day after we brought her home we found that she had full grown adult worms in her fesces, nobody had even checked for worms. We were very upset and we called back. They pretended like they forgot to give us her worm treatment but when we showed up to pick it up they gave us a one time treatment, which leads me to believe I was being lied to. On top of that the Vet they had me going to, the Womens shelter Animal Clinic in Bensalem, was not answering their phones and not returning my calls. My wife wrote a review for Pets Plus and upon seeing it the woman in charge of the adoptions called me and promised me they would make it right if we took down the review. She asked what I wanted and i told her that I wanted her staff to be better trained since they clearly were extremely unorganized and nobody actually knew what they were doing. I also asked that I be given a voucher for a closer Vet and or some of my money back so I could get her spayed closer to my house. She told me she would call me back and let me know. We took the review down, they never called me back. When we finally got the Vet to answer the phone it was well over a week after we had adopted Lola and well over 5 phone calls (at least once a day) I will be reviewing the Vet soon, because Im sitting in their parking lot now and nobody is here when we were scheduled to drop her off. By the time they finally got back to us Pennsylvania shut down due to Covid 19, so here we are several weeks later and Lola can't go to the dog park or visit my in laws dog because she STILL isnt fixed. I have done a lot of work with rescues, I fostered for almost home Dog rescue, I adopted my first dog from last chance Ranch, Pets Plus Quakertown is extremely unprofessional, and they charge double what last chance Ranch and Almost home charge for adoptions. I will not be returning and I'm truly worried about the animals in their care. read more

I can really only speak to the tropical fish department in this store, as that's what i'm shopping for. First off, this store has an impressively sized fish department. They have both fresh and saltwater, with a number of tanks far outpassing any chain pet stores in the area. That's where the good stuff ends. Prices on dry goods are high. Even on sale, you'll do better on Amazon, at Petco, or even heading town to Reef To Rift. Seriously--highest prices i've seen. The fish themselves? I hope you didn't think they were living things worth caring for. The tanks are filthy. The variety is nice, except that half of them (or more) are dead or clearly distressed. I've overheard the fish department... manager? head dude?... tell people he'll have new stock in on Monday, only to go in on Wednesday and find no new stock, but a stack of boxes labeled "Freshwater Fish" sitting on the floor. Do the fish sit in their shipping bags for days just waiting for someone to care to open them??? It's a shame that this place claims to care about pets. Based on how they treat their fishes, i wouldn't assume they care much. read more

This store is not about the animals one bit I get it's a store and they are in it for profit but this is absolutely a puppy mills just a new level so very sad to see 10+ pups about 10 to 20 lbs each all in a 4 by 6 ish cage panting and hot this is a disgrace that the state of PA allows this to happen oh and not to mention a turtle that should be in a zoo that's in a very tiny area this is not ok and too bad bc it could be a great pet store with lot to choose from !! read more

Buyer beware! I bought a rat from Qtown PetsPlus a little over a week ago. Called the store to inform them that they sold me a rat with mites....now I have to treat all the rats with meds. They just simply said that sometimes they use bedding like wood chips that have mites. NOT ACCEPTABLE or RESPONSIBLE! As far as supplies, the have a good selection of products at comparable prices. I hate that they sell puppies. Legally a pet store can only sell puppies sources from USDA Licenced "breeders"... Well news flash, the ONLY USDA licenced dog breeding facilities are high volume puppy mills. Reputable high quality breeders simply dont have enough dogs to warrant any type of licencing. Also reputable breeders wouldnt ever give their puppies to be sold at pet stores. read more

this store has definitely changed for the better. I actually adopted a puppy from here not too long ago. She was an actual rescue through the Humane Society. I didn't have to pay an outrageous price for her she was also fixed and had her first round of puppy shots. She also came with VIP pet care insurance which is great because they cover the rest of the cost of the puppy shots over the first month. I'm always in here buying food for my animals and my foster kittens. They are always friendly. read more

The one girls name was Alyssa, I remember because it's my name as well. I wish I remembered the other girls name as well but they were both exceptional! As far as there fish department goes it is horrible !! Tanks look horrible with a lot of dead fish in them ! Took a chance buying anyway and lost 5 fish within hours of placing them in the tank .... I bought 2 puppies from Pets Plus in Quakertown. One puppy was bought in August, 2017, and the second one bought in January, 2018. I come to find out days later both dogs have worms in their stools. All puppies are claimed to be fully vaccinated and de-wormed prior to purchase. The puppies I purchased show that Pets Plus promise of vaccinating and de-worming puppies are skeptical. read more

This place is all about the money and not about the dogs. Prices are outrageous. $550.00 adoption fee then they make you buy their food and medicine. I love my dog but the high priced dog food gives him nothing but the diarrhea, no wonder his ribs are visible. I stopped there just passing through and I just loved this dog. The shelter by my house, Blue Chip is all about the dogs. $350 adoption fee, spaying or neutering and all the shots included. You walk away with free food, new collar and leash. This place made me spend another $100 on top of adoption fee buying stuff I did not need. It is in the agreement that you have to purchase their stuff but the funny thing is they showed me the agreement after I agreed to adopt my puppy and paid the adoption fee. Then they make you buy the other stuff. Very dishonest way of doing business! Stay away from this place, go to a real shelter. My one dog recently died and I just love the one I got there, that is the only reason I stopped there. The next day they actually called me and said I did not pay enough when I had the receipt right in my hand!! I would definitely not recommend this place!! I wanted to say that this place has changed and I am happy to see rescue animals here rather then pure breeds in tiny cages. It's been a year & a half since we got our pup there, shortly after they changed the store around. She was one of a liter of Great Pyrenees mix puppies, she was named Olivia. She came with kennel cough but a simple dose of anti-biotics cleared that up right away and didn't pass to our other dogs. We have had zero other health problems with her. Astrid is now 21 months old and she is as lovely and sweet as a Great Pyrenees should be. She house broke herself, only having one accident inside, from day one she told me she wanted out. She slept the whole night through, in her crate, since day one without a peep. She never whined or cried or chewed or made a mess of anything. Easiest puppy I ever raised. She gives kisses by sniffing your face and her whiskers tickle your face. Because of this I call her my "Angel Kisses Astrid". We are honored to be her family. She is a functioning member of a pack 5 with a large fence yard. She is a good guard dog, gentle, smart and sweeter then "Rock Candy on a String". read more

I find this place very dirty, and not very well taken care of. I understand animals go to the bathroom multiple times a day, and between giving service to customers and cleaning, it can be hectic- but it shouldn't be that dirty. I don't like how when you ask to see a puppy they but you into the sitting area, and just leave you. I find this dangerous not only to the animal itself, but possibly the family and/or couple. I also don't like how the staff that I have encountered wasn't the nicest. Step it up! read more

My wife has shopped for pet food and products at this store for years and is always treated fairly with respect. Last week our sheltie of 10 yrs passed suddenly and our whole family was upset. The next day I suggested we go to Pets Plus- Quakertown just to "look" at some breeds and get ideas. Between my mom and close friends owning numerous dogs telling stories.....most of us have all heard the stories about "pet stores" and ONLY buying directly from a breeder. I had all of those stories in my head as we were walking in... and like I said we were going to " just look". Well, within a few minutes of looking...... as luck would have it the whole family fell in love with a mixed breed - (Basset - bully) and within a few minutes of getting to know him in the visiting room.......we were all really excited. The store manager Troy came over and did a great job answering all our questions and showed all the paperwork on the dog. I guess all the state scrutiny of pet stores has paid off.....in just a few weeks this 4 mo old puppy had been seen by 4 different vets all paid for by the pet store. Well needless to say we brought him home......our children named him cookie and we are very pleased. A few days after taking him home.....our local vet gave him rave remarks and the store manager Troy Johnson even followed up to see how things were going. We had a great experience with Pets Plus - Quakertown and ironically while we were there picking up our Bullet - Cookie......another good friend was getting an australian shepard. The store was starting to do much better in the way of reptiles, which is my main interest. That is, until John was transferred elsewhere. Now, within two months, the whole area has deteriorated. If john comes back, so will my business. Until then, there are other shops in the area that are better. read more

When I went to Petco to find out about a friend for my guinea pig, they absolutely refused to sell me one due to the fact that they said one would kill the other. I went to Pets Plus. They were very, very professional, yet down to earth. I was told they would have them ready after done with quarantine. I saw they were taking very good care of the puppies there, of course it's kind of an old fashioned place. But a lot of people are looking for that type of store. I went back and got my little abbysinian "Pinkie" the following week. After the introductions, they got along so well. If you are looking for a pet store that is the way things used to be, go there. They are very nice and courteous, the place is very clean, and I saw lots of families coming in to inquire about adopting a pup. Now I heard they will no longer be selling puppies. , only adopting them from adoption agencies in the area. Why bash them? That is just not nice. read more
