I left all my documentation with the Randy in early April, and we filed "an extension". When I did not hear from him for over a month, I began calling him more frequently to inquire about the status of my taxes. I never received a return call for all the inquiries. In addition to being ghosted, I was charged a large amount of money. I left messages asking what the charge was for, (since they did not produce any tax information), again, no response. After more than two months passed, I picked up my documentation. I was charged significant amount of money for no tax return. Again I asked what was I being charged for, and again, no response. After 3 months, I took my documentation to another firm, and my taxes were done in 5 days, I had my refund in another 2 weeks. read more

Followup to my previous hassles in getting an updated W-4 from Reynolds Group, and their decision to triple the price for this service (without explanation or justification) while taking almost three months to get it done... The whole point of paying Randy and company to calculate a new W-4 for us was to get our withholding right: so that we would keep as much of our paychecks as possible, and at year end, withholding will match our taxes due as closely as possible. The goal was, when filing taxes, to neither owe or get a refund...we wanted accurate withholding. So when I got around to doing 2012 taxes, I was disturbed to find the withholding was still off...WAY off. Like by almost $15,000! Thankfully it was in our favor; we had overpaid our taxes and are due a refund. But the entire point of hiring Reynolds Group to recalculate our W-4 was to avoid this. So, in the end, it appears that The Reynolds Group is unable of even calculating a W-4 correctly. Or doing their internal billing properly. Or providing an explanation behind their billing. Two star review is reduced to one star. This is a formerly good shop gone bad, incapable (in my experience) of doing the most basic work without glaring errors. And they charge a heck of a lot of money for their crappy work. read more

He handles the tough tax situations very well. He really knows his tax rules, and gives excellent advice on how to interpret and apply them. My situation has not always been simple, alternative minimum taxes, loss carry forwards, historical tax credits, advice in all areas, investment, real estate, business and taxes. His skill has saved me a great deal of money over the past 10 years. He educates as he analyzes. He's busy, so you have to plan for that, don't get behind. No one likes thinking about their taxes. Randy Reynolds makes it a lot less painful. His office just emails me a tax planner to help gather the information I need to send in and it's really quite easy. Randy is a very friendly and helpful guy. He's always been quick to respond to questions and great to work with. Although face to face visits are optional - I generally just drop off my paperwork and stop in to sign the paperwork. I signed up for the complete bookeeping service at the Reynolds Group. It all started out great with them picking up my books and necessary info every month. Then I never saw them and never heard from them but continued to compile my date every month. In March the following year they said I needed to hurry up and get them my November/December stuff since I had not given that to them. I rushed to get everything in thinking we had April 15 deadline. I have corp taxes and personal and so we had already missed Corp deadline. ANyway I waited and waited and around June they send me this huge and mean huge list of questions they had from all my check registers for the whole year prior.. It was like they had a 2nd grader reading them and could not figure out the most easy things. I wondered why these questions were never asked the year prior which is when all the check registers had been given over except Nov/Dec.. My books were suppose to be done monthly, I was paying for that. Then I realize they had not even looked at them and were doing them all at once in June! I was really frustrated but filled in all the blanks on all the questions, 7 pages of them. Waited another 2 months. Early August I contacted them to find out what was taking so long with taxes, They said they were waiting for me to get back to them about some more questions on some vehicles or something. I said they had sent no requests to me at all. Upon further investigation there was no questions they were waiting for but then said I needed to give them amounts I had paid in Mtg. Interest and Taxes. What???!!! I had given them all of that back in march and I am freaking out by this point. Oh gee we are sorry your file got filed in storage by mistake and that is why your taxes were not done yet!!! I am ready to yank everything from them at this point. Apologies are given, excuses are made and I figure I will have my taxes in a few days. I contact them early September worried we are approaching another deadline, don't worry we will have plenty of time. They contact me Sept 14, need it back by monday, its a Friday and I have plans all weekend but somehow suppose to look over 40 pages of Corp. taxes! Then they say they can't file them until I pay them for the prep. Are you kidding me I don't get a courtesy of sending a check I have to pay by credit card over the phone!! I have only spend thousands of dollars already in monthly bookeeping charges and my time and hassle with all the mistakes. This was my second time going back to Reynolds group, I was not happy the first time and should of learned my lesson then. I will never use them again even though they say all these mistakes will never happen again. read more

For a simple tax return this is the experience I have had as of to date. In December, I had what I considered a promising business with the Reynolds group as of today my attitude has turned around and I am not sure if they can even make it up or if I would even trust them. The events are such: 2 -20 initial meeting and I was promised a 7 day turn around 2 - 29 I am informed cost basis was needed did you notice that this was more than 7 days and they are asking me for cost basis. I also was never asked about donations. I did provide them after some email conversations about the return. 3- 6 cost basis was sent via email 3 - 14 paper copy sent 3-30 I received the following cut and paste directly (yes this is exact) "Your tax return will be complete today. We're going to be more aggressive on your Schedule A and with the costs of your mortgage. This will the refund and still be a defensible return. Thanks for your help with the cost basis. Have a great weekend Cyndi and you'll from our front office on Monday." 4/3 I called and talked to the receptionist who said my paper work is Still sitting on Randy's desk. I then said I would like to pick up my paperwork tomorrow.. I was informed I would have to pay for services.. Yet Randy has not reviewed and therefore the work promised is not complete. As of to date I can't recommend them. read more

I signed up for their 'tax projection' service to see what things were look like for the next year since I was newly self employed. I was told it included a meeting, looking over last years taxes, answering my questions, and vouchers to help with my schedule c payments. I never received the vouchers and when I received the bill it was twice what I was told I would pay. I payed without a fuss just to get out of there and find a service I could trust. read more

My wife and I called the Reynolds Group to see if they could help with the up coming year tax situation. We made an appointment basically to interview the firm before committing to using them as our tax consultants. We have a home business and had just purchased a second home and needed some tax information. After spending about 30 minutes with Randy, we decided to retain the company. Randy seemed like he was really "on it" This interview was not even mid-year. He informed us of all of the tax breaks we would enjoy by having the second property even if it was going to be rented for part of the year. Well, to start, 2 weeks later after the interview, which mind you, was us interviewing him, we received a bill for 250.00 for his time. This was never discussed. We paid the bill. We still thought he would do a good job for us so we stuck it out and used him and his group for our 2018 tax preparation. What a mistake. It took forever to get the taxes prepared. Phone calls were never returned. The entire story on our financial situation was turned around and quite frankly, opposite of what we were told months before. What a joke ! and to add insult to injury, he charged us 150.00 more for the return than we were quoted. I might add that we barely got the taxes back by the 15th. I would NEVER recommend the Reynolds group to anyone. Reading the previous good reviews, I see that they were a long time ago...Nothing good lately. We will now have to have someone look at our 2018 returns to see if they were done at all correctly...All I can say is " Run Forest, Run . read more

I will caution anyone NOT to use the services of Randy Reynolds of The Reynolds Group. I was referred to Randy by my investment firm. What a horrible, disappointing and expensive experience I had with Randy Reynolds. I had my taxes prepared with ALL my documents in order including all totals on donations. I had worked with my investment broker and I had tracked down missing information on long ago 1984 stock purchase so that there was no missing information. I brought my returns into Randy in February. I went to Los Gatos in March to pick up my tax returns after being notified by his office manager that Randy would bring them into the office with him. I arrived at the appointed hour to get the tax returns and Randy advised me that he left the returns at his Scotts Valley office. With NO apology for my inconvenience or any attempt to remedy his oversight, I was told to return later in the week to pick up the returns. When I returned to pick up the returns, Randy wanted payment BEFORE he filed the tax returns. The tax returns were to be filed electronically. Both returns came back to me in the mail. When I questioned Randy about this lapse, he blamed the office manager....yet again without any apology for his poor performance. The final blow.....I paid 50% more for this debacle that I had ever paid to do income tax returns. read more

Randy is helpful as long as your taxes are simple. Nice guy, too. But if you need complex topics covered or if you have planning questions, the Reynolds Group is a problem. They do not respond to email inquiries in a timely fashion. And, worse, they sometimes respond to an inquiry MONTHS later and then send a bill for the time. After months, of course, the issues had been dealt with by calling another CPA. So here's the deal, if your taxes are TurboTax simple and you don't want to deal with them, these folks are great. But you can't count on them to be responsive. read more
