Great spot in Alpine, TX. Set in the Old Ritchey Hotel, this bar is in a big homey-feeling space with hardwood floors and small rooms. Pretty bar space up front with several taps and plenty of canned and bottled selections-along with a solid wine list. We had a Bishop's Crackberry Cider (Bishop's is based in Dallas and makes fantastic no-sugar added fruit ciders), a glass of Pinot Noir, and Pint and Plow IPA (P&P is a Kerrville Brewery). The bartender was friendly and attentive. We were thrilled to find this place open on Christmas Eve-they even had live music in the upstairs area. They also have a great beer garden that we will want to visit in warmer weather. This is a can't-miss spot while in Alpine!

Our room was spacious and overlooked the pool. Hotel is extremely dog friendly! Reasonable room rates and comfortable bed. Parking onsite and street parking available. Pool looked lovely. Multiple areas to socialize and gather. Lots of history and cool art. We loved the onsite shopping/boutiques! Great for souvenirs and unique West Texas finds. We will always plan to stay here when we visit Marfa!

Accessibility and mobility concerns were a factor in our decision, and Hotel Paisano's website gave no indication that its elevator was out of service. Upon arrival, we were informed that the elevator was not working and would not be repaired during our stay. Every guest room requires climbing at least one flight of stairs, making this a significant issue for anyone with mobility limitations. What was most disappointing was not just the outage itself, but the fact that it was never disclosed before our arrival. We were also told at check-in that the restaurant was closed for renovations and no food service would be available. One of the reasons I selected this hotel was because the restaurant menu looked more appealing than those offered by other hotels in town. Again, this information was not communicated in advance. We were informed that the bar would remain open until 3 p.m. each day. However, when we visited around noon on Saturday, we were told we could not order drinks because the space was being reserved for a private party later that evening. That same party continued until 10 pm and the noise was loud enough to be clearly heard from our room. The party guests extended into the pool area. Event attendees were allowed to use the pool, and guests in formal attire were jumping into the water fully clothed. While that may have been entertaining for those attending the event, it created an atmosphere that felt more like a private venue rental than a hotel serving paying guests who were expecting a quiet and relaxing stay. The guests were also taking photos with a very bright flash camera. Every flash penetrated through both the sheer and formal sets of curtains in our room and made relaxing and sleeping impossible. Any one of these issues might have been manageable had they been disclosed before booking. Instead, guests were left to discover them only after arrival. I was particularly troubled by the apparent lack of concern regarding guests with mobility challenges. When a property has no practical access to guest rooms except by stairs due to an inoperable elevator, that information should be communicated prominently before a reservation is made so travelers can make informed decisions based on their needs. The hotel seems to rely heavily on its historic reputation and charm, but historic character should not come at the expense of transparency, accessibility, or guest service. The elevator outage, restaurant closure, restricted bar access, and late-night private event created an experience that felt far different from what was advertised.

When I flip back the sheets all the way back just to make sure I wasn't leaving anything behind, I came across dirty stain sheets that look like blood stains and there was grit on my sheets. Looks like the sheets haven't been changed. So of course I did bring it to the front desk clerk attention. And I told him I took pictures of it as well , asked if he wanted to see them he said no that's okay that he would tell the manager. Since I book through booking.com the hotel said they weren't able to refund my money because of that reason and finding out through booking.com called the Hotel, the general manager to let them know, and was told I never complained. Smh. This was terrible.

For example, they have a snack/beer/wine reception on weekdays from 5-7pm. It's nothing fancy, but it's the thought that counts! The pool is great too. I love swimming but there's always a part of me that cringes when I first put my toe in the water and feel how cold it is. Not here! The water was super warm in the pool (90?) and the hot tub was even warmer. Another touch that shows care from the owner - they added 3 turtle mosaics on the pool floor. Even at breakfast, I felt the extra TLC - more yogurt options than most Holiday Inns, and an egg white omelette option for those trying to eat healthier. We were able to stay here twice on our trip to/from Big Bend, and I'm so glad we did!

My husband and I were driving back to Austin from California and decided to pull over, catch a basketball game, and grab a bite to eat. What we didn't expect was one of the most genuinely welcoming experiences we've had on the road. From the moment we walked in, every single person we encountered was incredibly kind, warm, and inviting. It didn't feel like we were just customers passing through--it felt like we were being welcomed into a community. The food was fantastic! The street tacos were hands-down the highlight--fresh, flavorful, and some of the best we've had anywhere. And the prices were more than fair. One of the most memorable parts of our visit was being given a tour of the backyard area. The team shared that it had recently suffered a fire, but they were still proud to show us the space and even invited us back once it's fully restored. That kind of openness and resilience really stuck with us. Oh--and we can't forget Tito and Becky, the two sweetest cats who made the experience even more special. Joe's Place isn't just a stop for food--it's a place full of heart. We'll absolutely be back next time we're passing through. Thanks Joes place!

I wish we could have stayed a while longer, but we had a 20 minute drive to the observatory. Unfortunately, cloud cover pretty much ruined the Star Party, however, we were pleasantly surprised that a refund was offered.
