Planet Marfa is a must if you're visiting! It's a beautiful, spacious bar, with plenty of seating and activities. The teepee at the entrance is gorgeous and has a ping pong table, a side table, and lots of chairs. The bar has plenty of seating around it and the bartender was super friendly. Our group of 8 ordered food and drinks and we were delighted with our orders! There is a large stage area for live music, a back house with pool and board games, and an old bus with seats and a table. Didn't get to take pics of the bus, but it was awesome. Extremely happy with our experience here and would definitely recommend adding this to your itinerary when visiting Marfa, Texas! read more

Unfortunately the drink selection - and especially the draft selection - was not worth the stop. And the pizza was school cafeteria/ cardboard pizza at best. One of the coolest places I have ever been to. I recently visited marfa for the first time and quickly learned how early everything closes. Planet Marfa is the main spot where you can find great drinks and food late night. I absolutely loved that they had gluten free options. I had the vegan/gluten free pizza two nights in a row and it was just as delicious everytime. The overall aesthetic was so cool. I have never seen a place like this. We had a group of 10 that drove across the U.S. & Canada to Marfa to celebrate my 50th birthday. We visited Planet Marfa late afternoon after a few stops and made ourselves at home here. We enjoyed several cocktails, played ping pong and enjoyed ourselves. Everyone was super friendly (staff and fellow patrons). The vibe here is perfect... relaxed and chill. Drinks were on point. I could have stayed longer but we had several other stops to make. I will certainly be back sooner than later! Also, I must add that one friend didn't realize he lost his wallet until the following day. He retraced his steps back here. They weren't open yet, but some lovely gentleman let him in to look around. He did indeed find his wallet. Wonderful place! read more

The most I could say was the ambience was kinda artsy and funky for an outdoor patio-style beer garden. The issues we encountered: They weren't serving half their menu (no tacos that day for some reason) so we both ended up ordering hot dogs, even though we'd come for tacos. The chips that came with the queso were old and stale tasting and the queso was pretty average. The hot dog was also pretty average with a slightly less than fresh bun. Amazing beer garden with a very cool observation deck (which can get quite warm in the high elevation, late winter sun) and an eclectic crowd. This is a proper small town dive bar. Astrid was cool but efficient at the bar, and you can literally find an interesting conversation at every turn. Serve yourself peanuts in the shell are a perfect touch, and the music was excellent. Super cool spot to grab a drink or two. Just check their website first as their hours can be irregular (particularly in colder weather). It's an outdoor bar with a variety of cozy environments. There are tables, booths, an upstairs deck, a teepee, an old school bus, etc. It's quirky and fun. They do serve food but we already had an awesome meal down the street (Lost Horse Saloon). One of the coolest, most unique bars I've been to. It definitely had a hipster feel with a southwestern twist, which pretty accurately describes Marfa as a town. Not a ton of unique cocktails or drink options, but they have the classics and that's all you need. It's a super casual place and I think it would be so fun to go back for some live music. read more

Hands down my friends and I's favorite bar. The owners, staff, and locals were all so sweet and welcoming. The drinks were super good and the aesthetics hit the spot. They have ping pong, board games, and that one game where you make the ring in the hole lol. Went here with a group of 7 and there were no complaints!!! Also!! I was out walking on a hot day and stopped in for a drink. I just grabbed a Topo Chico and then walked around a bit, soaking up the decor. It's quirky and fun. There were a lot of interesting things to look at. Middle of the day, the bar was full. It was a hot day, and it's an outdoor location, but there was plenty of shade. Welcome to Planet Marfa! When visiting Marfa, choices are extremely limited. This unique outdoor spot makes for a pleasant beer garden, complete with multiple tables of various sizes and a large area down below under a huge teepee. We enjoyed Shiner Bock's because they are brewed in Texas. They are pretty solid beers actually. We also had a plate of microwaved nachos with chilies that, considering this is one of four food items available (hot dogs, chips, nachos, or ice cream), was pretty good. At least they were warm since it was pretty cold this November evening. The odds of me visiting Marfa again in this lifetime or the next are likely less than zero. But, if I do, I'll come back for some Shiner Bock and nachos. Life is good. read more

This bar was absolutely adorable! For a New Yorker, it's like the biggest bar on the planet with tons of space and a bunch of different sections. Horrificly overpriced, tasteless food. We paid $40 for three tiny tacos with two beans and a potato in each, two tiny tacos with vegetables, some stale chips with flavorless salsa and two beers. Only the beers were good. The food was absolutely terrible. This place needs to either stop selling food altogether or get a new cook. At the very least, you can make sure you're not serving stale chips. This place gets two stars because the beers were good and the general ambience of the place is very chill. This place just reopened! It's so funky and the new owner is so sweet. We were passing through and nothing else was open so we stopped in. The staff is being trained so it was a little slow to get drinks, but other than that everything was great. They have heat lamps and a bunch of fun things to explore (bye, tipi, upper deck). People were nice and the atmosphere is great. It's more of a drinking establishment. We made the mistake of believing that a small menu meant better food. We were served a box pizza. :( Unless it's a late night bar, I never would expect a box pizza. My husband just pointed out, that even in a joint like this in a place as hippy dippy as Asheville, North Carolina, they would never dare serve you a box pizza. Fine, serve box pizza. Then at least list the brand of it. You list the brand of hotdogs. You list Nathan's by brand. Say you serve box pizza. Then I'll feel better about spending $$$ on a box pizza. Also, I get it. It's mostly a bar. You got to have frozen stuff that you can pop in to the convection oven. Then hire someone local to make some and freeze those. And if you can't hire someone local, then offer something else. With respect to remote, then spend one afternoon a month making a bunch of pizzas from scratch. We are business owners. We get it. Some bar owners we know fix this by partnering with food trucks. Other bar owners offer delivery from other places. Or, just be up front about what you serve. We are pretty laid-back and tolerant and the menu didn't lead us to expect a box. It doesn't matter whether it's geared to local people or people passing through.
