I love The Road Toad. The owner really makes the place great, but their food is wonderful too. Come hungry, because this is not one of those "skimpy food" places. Every time I go to the Road Toad it seems amazing!! There are clean bathrooms, kind servers, and best of all amazing food!!

I have been meeting friends for dinner at the Road Toad frequently over the past 5 years and have NEVER had a bad meal there. Now this food was amazing. My wife and I both got the fried fish sandwich during lent. The sandwiches were huge. I'm not ashamed to say I ate the whole thing! We sat in the back sunroom and it was just so comfortable and nicely decorated. Can't wait to come back read more

A little gem btw Latrobe & Ligonier. Great place for dates with nice views of the creek. The service was great & attentive. The seafood was amazing. If you like something with a little heat in it, I would strongly recommend the "Stuffed hot peppers with crab meat". Price is reasonable, but the view is priceless. read more

I had the displeasure of dinning this evening at the Road Toad in Ligonier Pa. Let me preface this by saying that I have had many wonderful meals at this establishment and have spent thousands of dollars at this restaurant. The waitstaff was wonderful as is also always the case. However, I was absolutely APPALLED at the way the owner of this establishment treated us this evening. My husband and I made the mistake of brining our twelve-year old and two- year old with us for a nice family dinner. My children have always been well behaved and let me say I would be the first to correct them and insist on manners if they were out of line. My two-year old got up out of his seat, while we were waiting an extremely long time for our entrees. He ventured behind the hanging blinds that are attached to the patio door. He did this one time. The door was right next to his seat. He wasn't pulling on the blinds or breaking them. I began to turn around to scold him and place him back in his chair when the owner came over and berated my husband and I multiple times and repeatedly demanded in a harsh tone that we "control our children". On my honor this was the first and only time my child even got out of his seat and he was not running around screaming. Toddlers can certainly be temperamental, but this evening He wasn't acting out in the least. All our toddler did was silently walk behind the blinds to look out at the creek. It all took place in a matter of seconds. The lack of empathy and respect that this man has for his paying customers is outrageous. The lack of humanity that this indigent person displayed was honestly frightening. I realize not everyone likes munchkins, but the establishment has a 12 and under menu. If children aren't welcome, then I wish he would say as much. The lack of compassion was possibly attributable to the number of shots that I saw him down at his bar although I cannot say for sure what was in them, but I'm sure you can venture a guess. In any rate anyone who has ever had children, has children or ever plans on having children should NOT give this man a penny of their hard-earned money for he doesn't deserve your patronage. I can only guess that he does not have children of his own or he would not have been so horrible to two parents trying their best and doing a darn good job at raising respectable children. Shame on him. PARENTS BEWARE. I am not overexaggerating this review or the lack of respect that this man showed to my family. His tone and actions truly were outrageous. I have NEVER left a negative review about anyone or anything before, but people, parents in particular, need to be aware of this monster. If you want your couple of hundred-dollar meal ruined make sure to bring your children to this establishment and the owner will be sure to oblige. A man like this should not be in the hospitality business. His behavior as a human being was DISGUSTING. It really is a shame that such a beautiful restaurant that we have adored over the years is owned by a man who is so hideous on the inside. I also am aware that sometimes people just have a bad day and sometimes act out of character, I assure you this was not the case with this individual. First, his terrible reputation proceeds him I just had never witnessed his ridiculous behavior personally. Second, within a minute or two he was kind and compassionate to the table who was sitting directly behind us without children. He may have even realized the error he made, especially when both of my children finished their meals without a peep, because he made his way back to us and tried to make small talk. It was too late to try to put on a front his true ugly character had already shown through. I hope this review aids in your decision when picking from the numerous lovely restaurants in our beautiful Ligonier. Great place to eat. Wait staff is good. If you have family, I suggest bring them. Little pricey but worth it. The atmosphere is great and it seems as many people enjoy themselves here and you can't wait to dive in. The Chicken Parmesan with Cheese Ravioli is my favorite thing to get. read more

Thought it would be a nice place to stop at after driving by many times. We should have kept driving by. We ordered a flat bread Mediterranean pizza for 8.95. The flat bread (tortilla shell) was so dry it crumbled when you tried to pick it up. The toppings were sparse at best. Don't waste your time or money. read more

Thought it would be a pleasant evening out with my hubby for his birthday. We live near the Road Toad, but have only been there once before, about 15 years ago. Decided to try it and wish we had gone somewhere else. The menu is very nice, has lots to offer and the descriptionsof each item is mouthwatering. However, we ordered the Seared Ahi Tuni as an appetizer, and while it was an ample size portion (enough for two or more) the tuna was overcooked - somewhere between medium rare and medium. The ends were tough and fishy tasting. They did serve it with a very spicy pepper sauce which came in handy in covering up the fish taste. Ahi tuna is supposed to be just barely seared, virtually raw, still cold and sliced very thin. It should cut like butter. This offering wasn't even close to the way we would expect it to come out. The waitress even said after we ate it that she thought it was too well done, but she still brought it to us that way anyway. Our salads were nice, a good blend of salad greens, some red onions, cherry tomatoes and a bath of their balsamic vinegarette dressing. We ordered crumbled blue cheese, which was excellent, very creamy and sweet. Loved that. My husband ordered he petite filet, which came out perfectly prepared. It had a strange flavor, kind of gamey, we even asked if it was angus because the flavor was so strong, but it wasn't. Maybe it was free range beef that caused the gamey flavor. I ordered the salmon because the waitress told us it was excellent. However, mine was not excellent. It was supposed to be grilled, it looked like it was cooked on an indoor grill to create grill lines, black around the edges and dry the whole way through from being overcooked. The second time around, not cooked as hard as the first but was very fishy. We wondered if it might have come out of the creek behind the restaurant. It was definately not alaskan or sock-eye salmon, or atleast not fresh. My husband said his baked potatoe was very good but mine was dark inside and not appetizing to look at so I didn't even try it. The broccoli came out cold. One the brighter side, the coffee and dessert was very good. just from prior knowledge of how restaurants, work, they were probably not prepared on site so that would explain the vast difference between the quality of the dinner and the yumminess of the dessert. Just a a side note, remember this is a bar, that just happens to serve "fine" food. I guess that was my first mistake. When you go to a bar, maybe expect bar food. We actually had a gift certificate from Restaurant.com that paid for about 40% of our bill. Thank goodness for that. it definitely wasn't worth the prices they had on the menu. read more

Road Toad "Under New Management" The sign outside the establishment stated, "Under New Management." This should have been an early warning to provide our money to a different restaurant. The next warning indicator occurred as soon as we walked into the door. The person greeting us immediately stated that they do not have highchairs or a children's menu. Being that we had 11, 5 and 2 year-olds with our party, this did not bode well. We arrived at the location at 6PM. The restaurant was not overly crowded and we were quickly steated at a table. As of 7PM we only received drinks and appetizers. In the hour between, our 2 year old became very restless. What 2 year old will sit in one place for that long? To make matters worse, he had to sit in a regular dining chair as appropriate seating was not provided by the establishment. As such, the staff asked that he not run around for his safety. This resulted in an angry child which ultimately ended up with spilled beverages. At this point we removed the child from the restaurant and took turns waiting with him in the car. After another 30 minutes, about 7:30PM for those keeping score, the waitress informed us that out main courses still had not been cooked and asked if we would like to pay for our appetizers and call it a night. I have never seen such an act by a restaurant in my life. Being extremely close to Idlewild Park, one would think that this establishment would be much more "kid friendly." Alas, this was not the case. So I implore all parents of young children that may be tempted to stop for a bite at the Road Toad, to continue up or down the road until you find a place better suited for children. Lastly, the "New Management" makes me long to have the "Old Management" return. read more

Four of us stopped after golfing in Ligonier, 4 suppers and drinks so the bill was over $100. One of us asked for a couple more slices of bread when the bill came we were charged extra for it. A complaint was greeted with a to bad, that's the way it is...it's not the couple of dollars for the bread it was the principle. Most places would have comp'ed the bread but we got attitude. So they lost a $100 bill next time for 2 slices of bread. Meal was average not good enough to over look the service read more

We were taking the scenic tour on the olde Lincoln Highway when we stopped mid-afternoon at the Road Toad. Had small problem finding which of several doors to enter but this was the only problem. We were waited on promptly and quickly received our beverages. My wife had the salmon which although previously frozen was very tasty with it's dill sauce. Her potato was actually baked not microwaved. I had a great Cesar salad with anchovies presented nicely followed by the beef liver with onions and bacon and red skinned potatoes with butter and parsley. The liver was served medium as requested and the serving was large and very tasty. The Road Toad had listed an extensive desert menu but were were too full to have one at that time. If were were not on the road we would have certainly taken one along. Our host Ron and our waitress were very helpful. Ron is a "parrothead" and the dining room clock shows it always 5:00 at the Road Toad. Because everything on the menu is priced ala-carte we found our experience a little pricy but well worth the cost. read more
