Customer service is horrible, the workers are so rude and were unwilling to help me or my family for more than 10 seconds, he also ignored my sister when she was asking him to get her a shirt, she's 6 years old. Shirt selection was amazing and they had all the shirts I want to buy and have been searching for but when my dad went to ask if they had any sorts of deals he was shut down immediately from the worker without even letting him finish his sentence. My dad was not begging for a deal was just wondering if there were any they were offering, we were still going to buy for regular price and get atleast 10 shirts but once the guy was very rude we just walked out, I'm still bummed I didn't get my shirts but I would rather not support their business if they treat customers like that. Service was okay. The worker who was helping my boyfriend find sizes was pretty kind and helpful. He kept going back to grab him sizes once he'd try on things and would mention needing a different one to try. I don't think we were greeted initially when we walked in and I hadn't been checked in about needing any items while I was roaming around. The prices were around 30 CAD/ 25 USD. Went here to buy a few Christmas gifts. I was disappointed to find that they don't sell gift certificates or gift cards. They also do not give refunds - exchange only ( with receipt of course ) which can make returns/exchanges a bit of a pain in the ass. On the upside - the selection is vast, and I was served fairly quickly. The guy who helped me was ok - he showed me a variety of shirts, and I chose one that turned out to be a hit. I happened to see a hoody that I thought my bf might like. I bought it, but sadly, it didn't fit quite right. Off now to see just how good the customer service will be when doing an exchange. So much selection it could take all day to go through it all, and not just the t-shirts... It's sometimes hard to find good accessories to wear to Sanctuary/Sin City, but they have tons. Or if I just want to lounge around in my favourite bands tee, this is my first stop... Prices are great, which makes me wonder about the other comments (Darien C. & Simon R.). $24-$30 for a licensed band shirt sounds awesome to me. And $50 for a hoodie? Such a big disappointment I don't even know where to start. I was looking for back patches, so I thought the Rock Shop would have been a perfect place. They admittedly have some of the greatest selections of accessories and band merch that I ever saw. I was so excited and couldn't wait to look around. Almost immediately after I entered the store, my friend and I were followed around by the staff. As if they were profiling us as thieves. It was awkward, and rude. I asked to look at the back patches and I was scrutinized by a very rude woman, who stared at me for a straight 10 min as I went through the pile. I tried to remain polite and give her hints. She apparently didn't understand she was making me feel extremely uncomfortable. As I was being rung through on cash, I said that nobody helped me but she had the nerve to say she did. What a complete lack of any tact. Unbelievable. I only brought the patch because I didn't want to wait for it to ship to my house from an online store. I definitely will next time. To the owners and staff: shame on you. How dare you profile us and treat us like criminals based on how we were dressed/looked. Shame on you, and I hope people are made aware of this. read more

For those about to rock, we salute you. In my opinion the Rock Shop is a Vancouver landmark, I can remember taking transit all the way downtown as a kindergoth to pick up rock supplies, (like school supplies only hardcore). At the time they sold less rock t-shirts, and more rock wear, like the kind of skanky clothes that Christina Applegate would wear on Married with Children. Yes, I am THAT old. Over the years the goods have changed, and now they have an assortment of studded belts, punky colour hair dye, rings, patches, stickers, and t-shirts. They carry some old stuff (not enough in my opinion, I couldn't find a Depeche Mode shirt *sadface*) and a lot of new stuff, and the staff are more than happy to help you find whatever you are looking for without judging you on your shitty taste in music. I have a feeling that the staff's music knowledge is probably pretty extensive, and they would slay at playing Rock Band, in fact, I would even put it out there that I would love to play Rock Band with these guys over a drink or ten. Geeking out over music is one of the few things I am good at, that and Words with Friends. Inside it kind of looks like a warehouse showroom from after a music festival where they have all the shirts strung around the room of the bands that just played, and the shirts all have that insence-y smell to them (which I kind of love). I ended up buying a Crybaby shirt (the John Waters movie with Johnny Depp looking so fine before he became a scruffy pirate), and a red studded belt. My grand total was around $50, which I think is totally decent. If you're the kind of person who'd rather wear a shirt with their favourite band on it than a lame sweater embroidered with "the Gap" this is probably the store for you. read more

This is an essential shop for the rock god/rock fan in all of us. If you like a band, and you want the t-shirt/poster/belt buckle, the Rock Shop is where to get it. The walls are covered in T-shirts and posters, so it's a lot of fun to come in and browse and reminisce about my Nirvana obsession or my Bon Jovi-poster owning misspent youth. My husband has been buying quite a few Beatles T-shirts lately, and he's gotten me some very cool Queen T-shirts as well. I can attest that they carry some good quality, multiple wash withstanding goods in sizes for both the big boys and the smaller ladies. Good selection of Manic Panic but do your own research before relying on the staff to have the product knowledge needed to help you make a decision. I told the salesperson I wanted to color a section of my hair mint green. She talked me out of buying the pastel shades and said that the strength of the dye was quite weak and I would be better off pastelizing a shade myself (maybe she was right, maybe she was just trying to upsell me on the pastelizer). I was trying to decide between 'Siren Song's and 'Green Envy' when she sold me on a shade called 'Enchanted Forest' that she said was more green than blue, it turned out to be clearly the other way around. I am very familiar with Manic Panic but have never attempted a pastel and I realized in the process that the color that the salesperson recommended was far too dark to pastelize. I used a drop of color to an entire container of pastelizer to get this fluorescent turquoise that I could have just bought outright and saved myself the trouble and money if that's what I wanted.I went in well aware that if I chose a pastel I would be recoloring every week or two. I have 10 years of experience in customer service and retail management and can attest to the fact that selling your customer something that they don't want or talking them out of something that they do will only lead to buyer's remorse and boy do I have it. I dropped close to $50 on color and was planning on doing so regularly. Hopefully I can exchange the practically unused jar of Manic Panic that I have for the color that I wanted and report back with a better customer service experience! read more

This is one of the most unique places in Vancouver with lots of vintage rock band T's and hoodies. They have an awesome assortment of leather ware and belt buckles and all sorts of neat stuff. The downside is the no refund exchange only policy. But again, awesome and cool fashion that you won't find anywhere else is the big plus. They have rows upon rows of display cases in the store along with interesting T's hanging from the rafters. Just walking into this store you feel like you're left in awe of the awesome spectacle in front of you. I've been shopping here for years, since grade 9. I've seen the styles from band shirts go from awesome to really boring. This is the reason why I shop here very less as the years progress. It has nothing to do with the store itself as there's tons of bands, however, bottom line is that the bands don't care about appealing designs anymore. I will go for the classic rock band shirts 'cause they're iconic, however, the newer bands need to put in a bit more effort in the art department, especially when shirts cost $27 average. I don't find the prices over priced considering that concert t-shirts, most that don't even have city listing names and are horribly designed cost $40, $80 if you're lucky for a hoodie. The owners are super nice and awesome to just chat with when you have no other plans. I've only bought shirts here, no accessories, patches or stickers. read more

Unlike some of the other pretentious reviews from people who obviously aren't involved in the Vancouver rock/metal scene I've got to say the Rock Shop is a decent stop on the Granville strip. It has an eclectic collection of all things rock and heavy metal and a decent vibe to the place. I was very impressed by their selection. I'm from a smaller town where our only option for rock tshirts is Hot Topic, or buying blind from the internet. They have a diverse range of musical genres (not just death metal as someone had suggested). I was thrilled to find T. Rex, Thin Lizzy, Roxy Music, etc. Plus stuff for my teenaged daughter (System of a Down, Sublime). They have a small dressing room, too. Be sure to ask for what you want. The day I went there was nothing displayed for David Bowie, but I asked and they found me a Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars tshirt. Yeah, it cost me $32, but its a Ziggy Stardust shirt! I have bought Stickers, patches and shirts and silk posters and Pins, I have to say there needs to be more Green Day band stuff, not much for Green day as they used to have any which makes me sad however I do love my classic rock band stickers and I'm happy to have found a Jimi Hendrix patch for my boyfriend, it was the last one. I love the Rock Shop and I've bought many band shirts from them. The last few months though, I've been really disappointed. For a store with as many helpful women employees and women patrons, the store has a disappointing selection of women's shirts. I also found it pretty depressing that I can find a Pink Floyd shirt at Urban Outfitters down the street, but I can't get a Fleetwood Mac or a Tom Petty at the Rock Shop. The people working there are really helpful and the prices are reasonable, but the last 3 times I've gone in, I've been told to go and get a shirt made at Bang On. read more

This is a dowtown essential in my books. It's a must-go, it's a go-to, it's... well you get the point. Just when you thought places like this were going extinct, you come into a huge warehouse-feeling place and you're at home. For the punks, the metal heads, the grunge lovers, the soft punkers, the old school rap fans, the hard rockers, this is where you belong. If this place doesn't have a single band you like, a single pin that makes you smirk, a single belt buckle/cuff/purse or pair of shades that you think you could rock, then I question the worth of your existence. I love the t-shirts overwhelmingly lining the walls and the chill clerks and the music they play in store. The merch is pricey, I wont deny, but considering what you're buying is it really so bad? Where else are you going to find these original rock tops? read more

I was dragged to this place by my cousin, but it was worth it. It's basically a Hot Topic on steroids. They have the largest, and best collection of rock n roll appreal, and decore, I've ever seen. Everyone from Queen, to Nirvana. It would take the entire day, to go through it all. They have rare shirts, that I haven't seen any place else. Most of them weren't what I was looking for, but at least I had a lot to choose from. The girl working there was really friendly, and helpful, and let us look through all the Pink Floyd and AC/DC shirts. And it didn't hurt that she was kind of cute. I bought a sweet AC/DC shirt for $35, and my cousin bought a hat for $25 They have a great selection, but I felt the items were really overpriced. That shirt shouldn't have cost more than $20, and that plain black hat, no more than 7. At least they take American money. If it wasn't for the high prices, it would get an easy 4. I recommend it for any true rock n' roll fan. It's worth braving the shady streets of Yaletown, to shop here. In the end, I'm glad I was dragged here. I have a sweet shirt, and I got away from the creeps and bums. This was the only part of my visit to Yaletown, that I enjoyed, and the only place where I felt safe. read more

The Rock Shop is a great place to get well known and not so well known band items...t-shirts and flag posters mainly, but also patches, stickers, and belt buclkles. Avg pricing for what they offer. It is not walmart, but has the best selection for bands. Yeah, they may have more Sum 142 shirts than Led Zeppelin, but at least they have LZ. For hardcore metal heads, this shop is too mainstream, but they MAY just have that Immortal or Manowar shirt you wanted. I would check here before ordering online to avoid the shipping. Metalheads may appreciate the sticker/patch/zippo/belt buckle selection, but maybe not the t-shirts so much. However, if you luck out, you may get the one of the few TRUE heavy metal band memorbilia they offer, seems to be hit and miss, worth checking out though....Metallica not included, ha ha. Also, flag posters etc are avail here. Awesome rockabilly items, girl friendly as well. Basically, don't complain about the prices, as hoodies there start at about $60CDN, which as of Jly 2010, even places like Marks work wearhouse are charging $60 to start for a PLAIN cotton hoodie, not a Led Zeppelin hoodie. GET REAL CHEAPOS, band shirts/hoodies cost more. HMV, A&B sound are all comparable pricing to the Rock Shop, but the RS has better selection, and they can order stuff in for you too! This store is F***ing awesome! The selection of T-shirts and textile posters can't be beat anywhere else in B.C. that I know of and although they may seem a bit pricy they aren't nearly as expensive as if you were to buy them at a concert. If you can't find a particular artist on the wall, odds are they'll have something behind the counter. I'm also not talking 1 or 2 different designs per group either, think around 5 or 6 - 14 or15 (depending on group popularity and age, for ex. I wanted a Nine Inch Nails shirt=7 or 8 designs, Nirvana=around 15 or more.) Selection for you personally will also vary depending on the diversity of music you listen to and how "Hardcore" you are. There was tons for me and the heaviest I listen to is a bit of slipknot, metallica, etc. The staff are pretty cool and helpful also because you're obviously not going to work in a semi-gothic/punk/rock store if you're not that type of person. For those who saw the previous comment of somebody saying you'll be unoriginal, face it these places and genres of music are dying so there's not a very good chance of seeing someone else with the same shirt/hoodie, this is as good as it gets without finding some way to design your own band tee without breaking copyright and making look cool for a rediculous amount of money. read more
