TRS was not at all what I was expecting. From the outside it looks like maybe a place that sells furniture or plant pots. I was pleasantly surprised when I seen that there is so much to offer inside. They carry a wide range of things, boutique clothing, home decor, jewelry, even furniture and art work made locally. Everything is beautiful! Really sophisticated and classy clothing. Even a lot of Mardi Gras decor. I brought my mother in law in and she found a beautiful Tiger adorned outfit. We've never seen anything like it anywhere else. Go Ya ya's Chef, Kevin Black has opened this cute bistro serving savory & sweet crepes, sandwiches, soups, pastries, & French Truck coffee!!!! This is a perfect place to shop for local gifts and home decor and dine in (or to-go) for lunch!!!! I ordered a turkey & Brie crepe topped with homemade cranberry jalapeño jam! The crepe itself it's delicious. So light like a soft thin pancake. They served it with an arugula side salad. I also order an Apple Compote crepe to-go with homemade whipped cream that I literally licked clear with my finger! Ha! If you have never been to The Royal Standard, you have been seriously missing out! There are so many exquisite goods that I would love to take home with just. Yup, just bring a U-haul over and I'll take it all! If you are ever looking to get me a gift... The Royal Standard Gift card is high on my list. I is set-up like an art gallery with items grouped together in different sections. Go through the entire store first just to familiarize yourself with how things are situated, then shop. Every corner and every turn you make has a beautiful surprise. This store is very engaging to the eye, which makes me want it all! They have wonderful sales pretty much everyday. You will find something that you like to accent your home or accessorize yourself with; I can guarantee it. This place was my Go-To for years, along with the Red Door but since the RD closed and the flood, TRS has slipped. I've been several times but I don't find myself picking up anything when I go. Same stuff I've seen and bought before, nothing special, or overpriced since the completion is less fierce. I do enjoy seeing their items in other stores and saying I will buy it at TRS instead so I can continue to support them. I just wish I wanted to exit with more goodies in my hands. I go quarterly and will continue to try so I hope I can bump my review to a better rating soon! read more

Love the furniture! They carry Bernhardt products! I posted a pic of a headboard I love which is Bernhardt... it's actually a whole bed but you can't see in the photo. I checked the price online to see if this place overcharges and I'm guessing they don't overcharge on furniture. The price on amazon was only $1 less than what was advertised in store. I didn't really look at the prices on anything else but I did see a super cute dress for $38...not bad. They have a bunch of seasonal decorating stuff, jewelry, lamps,slippers,casserole carriers(pretty cool, haven't seen those before),tons of fabrics and cute pillows. This location is back and better than ever!! The flood did a lot of damage and threatened a permanent closure, but thankfully the owners decided to reopen. I went today for it's reopening, and the store is very open now and bright. Be patient while they work out the kinks. My daughter and I visited the tent sale today at the Perkins location. We found some great deals (so we thought). Of course when we go to check out, they don't tell you the prices as they're ringing things up, then once you've paid they remind you it's a final sale. I bought a shirt that was $7 (said the paper sign right in front of the shirt). Silly me for not looking at the specific item number, my shirt was $24.99. My daughter saw a sign that said "kids striped duffle bag $3". She bought 2 and had them monogrammed, to find out they were $19.00 a piece. When she inquired they told her it wasn't the item number she bought and her striped duffle bags were $19.00 a piece and since she had them monogrammed, sorry. What a shifty, low down way to rip people off. Technically, they're correct, we didn't look the item number, how stupid of us. I'll tell you this, they may have screwed us and got our money today, but they've lost two customers forever. I hope it was worth it. read more

One of my *very* favorite shops in Baton Rouge, The Royal Standard has a gigantic selection of interiors, gifts, and furniture. There are two stores on Perkins Road -- one near LSU and one near Highland Road -- and both are run as a collective of individual mini-boutiques, each with their own unique merchandise. What's great about that, of course, is that there's something for everyone. They have everything from antique sterling silver spoons to custom furniture. Not surprisingly, there's a plethora of items with fleur-de-lis' on them, too. The staff at Royal Standard is unfailingly nice and helpful -- there's not a single ounce of snootiness! Bottom line: if you're looking for a place in Baton Rouge where you're assured to find something awesome, your first stop should be the Royal Standard. read more

Today was a special day for our daughter as her Bridal Brunch was held here. This venue is phenomenal as well as the food and the staff. When i first went to look at this spot from the outside you would've never thought it was this fantastic. As i entered the venue before the bridal brunch i went in contemplating that there would have to be a little decorating involved... BOY was wrong. THIS PLACE IS STUNNING... I purchased a wooden table from this company a couple of years ago. It has begun to split down the middle. I called the company. They indicated that they had discontinued the table because of this issue but I was out of luck because so much time had passed. Ripped off. This place was totally unexpected. Was out looking for furniture and it popped up on a search. They have a really cool selection of "stuff". They have new furniture, old antique furniture, repurposed furniture, lights, dishware, clothes, ice cream, and more. Did not find anything to buy, but I definitely will be back to search again. I have always loved the Royal Standard and always make it a priority to stop there when I am in town. As soon as I saw they were having a tent sale I got online and ordered 4 items. Unfortunately, I only received one of the items I ordered. One of the items I ordered was a gift and I didn't have it in time for the party so I printed a picture off of the gift, wrapped it, and gave the recipient, It wasnt until almost two weeks after I ordered the gift that I received an email from RS saying the item was out of stock. I called to see if they had anything comparable b/c it was a cooler bag which I know they sell a lot of. I was told no and recieved an apology. I am really disappointed in the way RS handled my order. Their website says it was available and I also received a confirmation for the order. RS needs to do a better job tracking their inventory as to avoid "selling" items they dont really have. They should have done more to remedy the situation. I will definitely never be ordering from online ever again. read more

My first thoughts of this place was that it looked pretty rustic. The gates were nifty and so was the layout of the things they sold. While walking through the store, I realized it was like walking through a maze. Very easy to get confused and would be hard to find anything. They do try to group similar items together, but still is hard for a normal person to find exactly what they are looking for there. I realized they did have sales on a few items, which was pretty cool. Nothing really stood out as a must have there, even though there were some interesting things you could purchase there. It definitely is a hole in the wall place that you maybe wouldn't even know existed otherwise. I know while I was there, my experience wasn't the most pleasant. The employees did not even pay me any attention and when they did, it was a vibe that made me feel uncomfortable. At one point, I felt like an employee was following me around as though I was a shoplifter. I wasn't wearing anything but pants and a shirt, didn't even have a purse. I know I also asked if they could hold an item for me while I used the restroom, and even then, was treated like that was such a strange thing to do. That experience in itself was very unwelcoming, which will definitely be why I won't return back. I could have given this a 1 star rating, but I will at least give it 2 for the simple fact that yes, it is an interesting hole in the wall joint that sells an arrangement of things... also because they have free coffee.
