After my most recent visit I'm not too impressed. I went in for a specific pair of shoes which they had but I wasn't sure about the fit so the person helping me promised to get a pair of whatever color he could get to ensure we had the right size. He was going to call me back the following Monday and I told him I might be working and if so I wouldn't be able to answer and he should leave a voicemail. As it turned out I did work but the call never came in. This is a great example of poor customer service. Great locally owned running business! Lots of cute accessories, clothes and shoes. There are lots of workers here, so it's usually possible to find someone pretty knowledgeable when trying to find shoes that fit well. They also have a 30 day return policy--and then shoes that get returned get sold from the sale bins. Both great options! read more

I have purchased several shoes from here. I went in today. They were a little busy. I understand. I stood there like a Jack ass waiting for someone to say. "We will be with you in a moment." They did say, "Hello." That was about it. I felt ignored. A little unappreciated. Some customer service training would go a long way. Just let the customer know. "We appreciate your patience. I agree with Ben D. and Sutton B.'s reviews regarding poor customer service at The Running Well Store. I was seeking a pair of running shoes for training for a 1/2 marathon. They only had two pairs in my size. I bought one without understanding the return policy, which is only for exchange. Thats ok. However when I went back in three days to return (or exchange as it turns out) because they really were not a right fit. The service team at the Barry Road location was incredibly dismissive and rude. They only had ONE other shoe in my size. They scolded me for not being happy with the fit before I left as they have a limited selection in my size. They did not apologize and offer any solution. I am stuck with a pair of $145.00 shoes that I am not using. I will try other locations that have more selections. But what a hassle! My one star review is not only for a specialty shoe stores limited selection, but more so for thier absolutely rude and disrespectful treatment of me. I recommend a specialty shoe store with great selection and amazing service. It is "Fine Foot Care Center" in North Kansas City. Ask for Jill @ 816-455-8900. Service : The associate who helped me was a young gentleman. He was very kind and helpful. Answered my questions and helped me picked out some great options. He took a video of me walking on the treadmill so he can recommend the best shoes for me. Felt kinda rushed but I was ready to go because the vibe was uncomfortable. The rest of the staff barely talked, smiled or acknowledged me, which made my experience really uncomfortable. I don't know if it's because I looked young and they assumed I wouldn't buy. But having a friendly attitude would be nice and welcoming especially with it being a small store. There also was no music playing so there was an awkwardness in the air. I was ready to get out of the store as quick as possible. Selection : Pretty good options for people who are serious about shoes. Had an unsatisfactory experience from start to finish. I am a difficult person to fit and the salesperson made it clear that she was frustrated with the number of shoes I needed to try on. They like to tout that they are fit "gurus" implying expertise. That was not my experience. Never the less, I proceeded to purchase a pair of Brooks shoes. After six months of light wear the sole began to shred. It was clear that the shoe was defective. When I took the shoes back to the store the salesperson stated that they would not take any steps to remedy the problem. He repeatedly stated that they would "lose money" if they did anything to help me out. He stated that I would have deal with Brooks directly. I asked them to contact Brooks on my behalf and he refused to do that. The only thing he provided was a customer service phone number for Brooks and an electronic copy of my sales receipt. I am extremely dissatisfied with the lack of customer service that TRWS provided to me. Excellent service! These folks know how to find the right shoe! My mom has problems finding the right shoe with the right support. I knew this is the perfect store to find walking shoes for her. She was presented with 3 options to try first and she found a pair that she loves and fits perfectly. They carry large sizes which helps too. Her feet are a size 12 which is difficult to find. He definitely cared about getting me the absolute best shoes for my feet, which, is no easy task with Size 12 WIDE feet. He continued to bring out more shoes until I found the shoes that felt perfect. He was very professional. He took pride in doing his job well! This meant a lot to me. I had to take the time to write a review, that others may know that this store hires awesome people whom aren't just about their paychecks, but actually care about the people who walk into the store to potentially give them business. This gentleman explained everything very well to me. After the diagnostic foot test, he explained what shoe was most optimal for my feet's health, expressing the differences between the shoes I was pointing out and asking about. It was all about helping me make the most informed, educated decision on what shoe was best for my feet! I was totally at home there. Relaxed. Great environment. The store is very clean. As someone who has been running for over a decade, I can be a very picky customer. I need gear that is durable, but also fitted to my health needs as a runner (high arches, Metatarsalgia) and I won't compromise on any of it. Most salespeople hate me. But those salesmen aren't even half as knowledgeable and helpful as those at The Running Well Store. The gentleman that helped me not only listened to my concerns, but measured my feet correctly in order to give me multiple, perfect options - something my skinny feet are not accustomed to. It was so wonderful to have such high quality choices in comparison to the usual cheap (yet still over priced) selection at a mass retailer. Personally, I have no problem investing $150-200 in quality running shoes I know I will be using for the next year (which is exactly what I did). But this store does offer a very nice price range for their quality running shoes. Additionally, they offer EVERYTHING needed to run well, as their name states. Clothing, accessories, running tech, socks, etc. I will definitely be back for more athletic goodies. Absolutely fantastic experience. I have flat and wide feet. In addition, I had an ankle injury last year and have had a very difficult time finding shoes. I LOVE to walk and have been in a lot of pain since the injury. I walked out with a pair of shoes and for the first time since the injury, I was able to walk at a pre-surgery pace! Hands down my favorite specialized running store in KC. The staff here is super friendly and they are all runners as well. They do offer fittings and have a treadmill to watch you run on so that they can analyze your stride and how your feet strike the ground. They have a wide variety of in-stock shoes, but can also order any size and color that you need as well. They also have a basic assortment of clothing, nutrition and other running gear. They host a few races each year and have group runs every week. If you go to the website, there is a sign-up to get on the group run email list. The best one they offer is a group run at 6pm the first Tuesday of the month at Cinder Block Brewery :) read more

The Running Well Store carries a wide selection of shoes and gear for the regular and not so regular runner like myself. We mostly purchase footwear for our XC runner from Jack Rabbit or here. This location is super convenient for us and they have a nice stock of inventory too. Service is friendly and professional. Came in last week to buy shoes for my mom and asked for a size and width shoe recommendation. The sales dude offered 3 styles that would meet my criteria and I ended up with a new pair in less than 5 minutes and I was on my way! They also have a rewards program where you earn cash to spend towards new shoes. We went in to return a Christmas gift that had clearly not been worn and the staff was unhelpful and surly. They would only allow store credit. I went to this store to buy a pair of shoes today 6/7/2013, the store was busy, there were two people in the store working a woman and a young kid. The young kid was running around trying to help everyone while the woman was complaining about not having a break and not helping anyone. I don't like going into a place of business and listening to employees complain.
