This school tour/orientation BLEW our socks off! Easily went to the #1 spot for her and us. From the attendant at the parking garage to their awesome grounds, everything was fantastic. The inbrief was very well orchestrated. You could tell a lot of time and effort went into making sure we understood what the school stands for and how proud each of them are of being DUKE! The campus is breathtaking enriched in history. Our ambassador Matt Rowe (tour guide) was top notch! He's right with 22,000 students this big school, definitely has a small school vibe. Great job JMU!

The teachers create such a peaceful, loving environment where children feel safe, seen, and truly cared for. We've been especially impressed by how thoughtfully the teachers nurture imagination and creativity through play and storytelling. The seasonal celebrations and daily rhythm bring a sense of magic and consistency that our child looks forward to. The extensive time spent outdoors each day is a huge bonus. We heartily recommend the early childhood program to Central Virginia families.

There is a strong emphasis on human connection, creativity, and meaningful interaction, which feels increasingly rare in today's fast-paced, technology-driven world. I deeply appreciate how the school encourages children to step away from "machine life" and instead develop a true sense of self. Rather than focusing solely on productivity or outcomes, the approach nurtures curiosity, imagination, and emotional growth. While inspired by Waldorf principles, the school does not promote any specific ideology of Steiner, but instead captures the essence of holistic childhood development in a thoughtful and inclusive way. Equally wonderful is the sense of community and support among teachers, students, and families. It's a warm, thoughtful environment where children are truly seen and valued. We couldn't be happier.

The instructors Jess and Candice favor students and their boss, Rachel Palmer doesn't do anything about it. My daughter filed a grievance a couple of months ago and nothing came of it but ever since then she's been treated even worse, so I finally stepped in and asked for a meeting with the school to discuss my concerns about the treatment of her. In the meeting, the instructor handed us a piece of paper and said that they were kicking her out of the program. There was no other reason given other than the fact that she was unhappy. We told them repeatedly she wanted to be in the program, but she wanted to be treated fairly. They did not care. They kicked her out of the program that we paid for. I will be filing a grievance with the state and the licensing board, but do not waste your time of money coming here. The girl that runs the program has never done anything with hair and has no cosmetology experience. She worked at Central and one of the instructors (Candice Davis) has never even worked in a salon. Students are unsupported. A quick review search from other students parents and clients will show this is an ongoing issue. Students were encouraged this week to write reviews, as a "quick fix" to bury and lessen the impact of the negative reviews. Save your money and headache and go elsewhere.

The favoritism and childish behavior is toxic. All the instructors do is bully you. They don't educate you and they are never available for help, you teach yourself. cosmetology school is miserable especially when these instructors bully u and gossip about u everyday if you're not in their circle. unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it because Rachel Palmer is biased, she will only side with the instructors and if u do speak up about it, it'll just make it worse. don't go to this here. you will hate going in everyday. they ruined my enjoyment for school.
