Plus I am performing arts teacher, and have many friends in the dance community. My daughter has always loved dance, and has always said ballet is her favorite. We went in search of the studio with the best training in San Diego, and hands down came up with Ballet Institute. The teachers are top notch, the training is rooted in the Vaganova Russian Program, and isn't about quick tricks, but instead about building strong technique. The studio owner/director/head teacher Egle Spokaite is magnificent. She comes form a background as a VERY prominent principal dancer in Lithuania, and she ran the national ballet school there. She has this way about her that is always down to business, but also loving, and nurturing. I have watched the progress of my daughter in 1 year, and I'm amazed. She has great friendships that she has made, and the teachers all show her support. The students thrive there! I'm so glad that we made the decision to start attending BISD.

My daughter has been with Ballet Institute of San Diego (BISD) for about four years now, and I…read morehonestly can't say enough good things about this school. It's not just a "cute kids' dance class". This is real classical ballet, taught with care, depth, and European tradition. The founder, Eglė Špokaitė, was a principal ballerina with the Lithuanian National Ballet and has performed all over the world! Their head teachers, like Katia Anishchenko (trained at the Vaganova Academy and danced with the Mikhailovsky Theatre in Russia) and Tinatin Mtchedlidze (from the State Ballet of Georgia), bring incredible knowledge and professionalism to the classroom. You can truly feel that you're learning from people who've lived and breathed ballet their entire lives. What I really love is how genuine their recitals feel. They're not just about showing off! They're meaningful, artistic performances. The costumes are beautiful and varied, the choreography thoughtful, and every production feels like a complete story. Through these experiences, the students get to understand what real ballet is. Discipline, teamwork, grace, and artistic expression. Yes, BISD follows a traditional European style, which can feel more structured or strict compared to most American studios. But to me, that structure is what helps the students grow. It comes from deep respect for the art, not from pressure. And over time, I've seen how much this approach has helped my daughter become not only a stronger dancer but also a more confident, resilient young person. If you want your child to experience true classical ballet, not just the surface, but the heart of it. BISD is the place!

For $15 a class, it doesnt get much better than this!…read more I love to dance and back in my younger years, I was a raver a long time ago and have been to Burning Man a few times. I love almost any kind of music but definitely hip hop has a special place in my heart. It is really the first type of Western music that truly got me into listening to music and expanded my mind. Since then, my music repertoire has grown quite broad, diverse and fulfilling. If there is one thing I cannot live without, music is definitely one of those things. How could this child of Taiwanese immigrants connect with hip hop? Well, the thing is, music doesnt need explaining. It reaches deep down inside somewhere and it brings such delight and joy, and it truly transforms and heals. But, yea, I digress... For the past 5 or 6 years, Ive been listening to K pop too and watching dance videos and honestly I am at a point where my body wants to fully learn some dance moves, whether it be K pop, but even better, hip hop...or whatever genre where there is some sequence to follow along with the music. I checked on mindbody to see if any dance classes offered where I am and it was my lucky day! Found this studio not far from me and there was a beginner hip hop class tonight that worked with my schedule, so I showed up! Instructor was great, he taught us some very basic moves and the studio is spacious, with lots of mirrors and the other side of it opens out to a back parking lot. Our instructor had us line up on one side of class and then taught us some moves and we practiced our moves to the other side. This went on for the first half of class. He then had us facing the mirrors, and taught us a simple sequence and that was super fun and we got to try it with a few different hip hop songs. He was very positive, shared a bit about the history of hip hop (which is very cool history) and mainly told us to have fun while teaching us some fun moves! I had a great time and definitely will be back when I wanna add some dance into all my other body movement fun I like to have!! Awesome studio, great teachers, staff are nice, prices are fair, and easy parking. Im definitely getting my groove on here again soon!

He had a cardio hip hop class and it was really crowded! What I like is that Anthony breaks everything down for people of all skill levels. Lots of great energy! The women in the back with me, cause I refuse to be in front, were all fun and supportive! However, my running man at the end was walking! LOL! My only complaint is that the AC cannot keep up with the heat that's generated! Yes, this class is fire! Definitely worth checking out classes here! It is a little far for me, but I will definitely be back!
