For the years of my childhood, Narrabeen Sands Hotel was a daggy pink building on Pittwater Road that represented an eyesore, not a nightspot. Harsh, perhaps, but true. I would not go there, nobody I know would go there and ultimately, it wasn't very commercially successful.
But this has all changed - the hotel was renovated in 2008 or so, and is now a completely different place. There's still a large room full of pokies machines, but the rest of the pub has a much classier feeling to it now. On Tuesday nights there is trivia - always a good time - and Sunday nights often feature live acoustic sets.
There is also a food deal from the bistro, which changes every night. I'd recommend the Wednesday night steak and prawns combination - for less than $10, you get a steak cooked to your liking, salad, chips AND a Bluetounge beer. Happy days. The rest of the bar menu is varied, with some creative choices - I'd go for the chicken satay sticks, or the burger, but everything seems delicious really. They do unfortunately employ those stupid little buzzers that tell you when your food is ready - I HATE THOSE THINGS, THEY ARE SO STRESSFUL.
In terms of drinking, you've got a wide variety of tipples to choose from. Like the food, there is often a special on, so be sure to ask. read more
